To begin with, I had a larger family too, all my grandparents, uncles, many cousins who were young like me who I used to play withr, a sister who now lives in another part of Italy, and a father who passed away two years ago. Also life in Italy was so simple, there was a bit of technology when I was little but... only the TV, nothing else ( apart radio and telephone but much older inventions) in my house. Indeed, I remember that the TV was in black and white, my father purchased a color TV in 1982 (in Italy color arrived in television studios in 1977, the year of my birth) but we had and kept a second black and white TV black until the 90s.
It was in the kitchen, on the table where we all gathered to eat, small and a little blurry, but it was enough to listen to the news and some shows during meals. Because the most important thing that in my opinion kept us very different from todays is that that technology did not divide us. We were always all at the table, a 2,5 meter long solid wood table with many chairs and which today is empty. Because today only my mother eats there, only her, and now there is a small color LCD TV to keep her company.
The telephone was landline in the living room and never rang, so ok, the TV showed us news shows but during them we chatted, the TV became background music. What I want to say is that I think I have lived the era that I draw, sometimes, even if it is a few decades further back, because Italy families has always been the same after the Second World War, until the end of the 90s. The only difference was the TV, the electricity. But I remember that we often stayed by candlelight in the evening, in the summer my father lit a gas lamp on the balcony, there was silence and stillness after sunset. I don't know about you, but as a child I rode on carts many times, driven by horses, donkeys... because my uncles had a farm and then in Rome there are the Botticelle ( little carriages). I experienced rural Italy, the farmhouses, the work of relatives as farmers and growers. I played with stones, wood, stream water.
Until now, life in the town of Bon Bon hadn't involved me emotionally, because it is fancy, lustful and moneyed (but I put into it my feelings from when I visited Innsbruck, then Paris, and Las Vegas) but ...drawing William's childhood has, it's overwhelming me. Because now I'm alone, like William, and I have memories of my family.
I know that in every Bon Bon character there is a part of me, now William is forcefully winning.

I'm late, but darn, Vanessa, I didn't know this meant that much to you. It sound idyllic, your childhood. I remember my own childhood home, the one I had to leave because my parents got a divorce. Things were simpler back then. And now I too am alone. Well, the page speaks to me, knowing the context... And then one day the idyll just ... ended. Thing got cramped, and the family split apart... Crap. Now I'm getting emotional. ^^"

Sabes, te entiendo. A pesar de haber nacido en una época más reciente, aya por el 2004, no conocí la tecnología hasta 2010 cuando mi mamá obtuvo su teléfono más moderno. Recuerdo que obtuve mi primer teléfono en el 2014, el cual considero el mejor año de mi vida. Antes de eso, yo solía jugar con viejos juguetes que me regalaban, era divertido, también teníamos de esas televisiones de tubo que mencionas, incluso una en blanco y negro. Al día de hoy conservo una de ellas solo por que me reuso a tirarla a la basura, cuando avance en mis estudios técnicos planeo repararla. Definitivamente una bella época, considero que mi generación es la última en mi pueblo que tuvo ese tipo de niñez tan buena para la mente. Pero con la llegada de la tecnología e podido aumentar más mis conocimientos, además de darme acceso a una de las artes que tanto me apasionan, la música. Espero pasientemente el próximo capítulo, saludos.
