Mistake (Chapter 3)

Blood erupted from the stump that had been his shoulder, but the gush that seemed like liters was barely a drop on the huge young woman's butt.
The boy spun around, rotating around his one good arm as it remained caught in the wrinkled panties. Lara stepped out of the bathroom wrapped in a towel. But then Lara stopped. The house was empty, and Amanda had left her room wide open. She couldn't help but want to have a look inside. Setting down the hamper, she crossed the landing and pushed open the door to Amanda's room. The room was dark, so she walked over to open the curtains. As she turned back around, she noticed the phone on Amanda's desk.
Picking it up, Lara immediately knew that it wasn't her housemate's crappy old Samsung, so she turned it over. The screen lit up with a lock symbol, that she didn't try to open, but she did notice a notification on screen.
AMANDA: Hey babe, totally forgot to tell you earlier but I can’t do our thing today …
How strange, she thought. The message must have been for that loser Clark, but why was his phone in their house? She quickly looked around, afraid that he was hiding somewhere, but she was alone. The text put a sour taste in her mouth. Had Amanda been planning to bring him over? Even after she and Lucy had specifically told her not to?
No. Amanda was their friend, and if Clark was coming, it was because he was pressuring her to let him. Lara's fingers clenched around the phone as she fumed about the boy who had stolen her friend. A small part of this came from a feeling of inadequacy, having been dumped at the start of lockdown, but she reasoned that she was only looking out for Amanda.
The slightly ajar door caught her eye. She knew that she had pushed it all the way open, and the coats hanging on the back weren't pushing against the wall. She pulled the door halfway closed, and gasped as she saw the men's shoes.
That bastard had been in the house! She stomped out of the room, pocketing the phone as she went. She barged into Lucy's room and looked around, but aside from the mess of clothes and exercise equipment, it was empty. She marched downstairs, forgetting the laundry as she searched the house for evidence of an intruder. But the living room and kitchen were empty and the utility room too was clear.
Lara couldn't make sense of it, and wanted to message Amanda, but she didn't want to give away what she knew. She decided to pen a short message.
LARA: Hey b, did you get home okay?
She knew that her friend would have been picked up by her parents at the station, but it was a good enough conversation starter. Lara wished that her own mother had been as adamant about coming home for the lockdown as Amanda's, but that was besides the point. She didn't have to wait long for a reply.
AMANDA : Hey, yeah, no problem. Everything okay at the house?
Lara thought about what she would say, and typed out that she had found a phone, but then deleted it before sending. If Amanda hadn't said anything, she might not have known that Clark was coming. What a creep! Lara decided to keep quiet for the moment and went back up to get her clothes.
LARA: All good here hun, have a fab time at home x.
