Mistake (Chapter 1)

The gloomy English sky was poised to rain, and normally he would have been worried that his long, chestnut brown hair would turn into a mop. But his hair really didn't matter today, not for what he was planning to do.
It was a few weeks into the national lockdown, and he had to be careful not to look like he was moving house. He wasn't going to need any clothes anyway. He climbed the pavement of the hill towards Amanda's house.
She had given him a key before everything went to shit, to the scorn of her house mates, and he now brandished the very same as he approached the front door to the row house. He noticed no car on the driveway so assumed that there was no one in. Score.
He unlocked the door and stepped into the narrow entrance. A staircase was immediately in front of him, leading up to the three bedrooms. To his left was a coat rack and umbrella stand on the side of the archway into the living room and kitchen. Shoes were strewn around the floor and Clark carefully stepped around them on his way upstairs. He made sure to lock the door behind him, so as not to arouse any suspicion.
He and Amanda had worked it all out, but for their plan to work, her housemates could not know that he was there. The crazy bitches had already threatened to call the police and get them fined, so honesty was not an option. Clark shook his head at the thought of them as he turned the corner at the top of the stairs and carefully pushed open the door to his girlfriend's room.
The space was small, but as tidy as ever, bar some clothes on her bed. In particular, a pair of black, cotton panties caught his eye. They hadn't discussed it, but he worked out that Amanda must have left them out on purpose. He shut the door behind him and slipped off his shoes. He didn't know how long he had until Amanda got back from wherever she was, but he wanted to get used to everything.
He tucked his shoes behind the door and immediately went to open the window. He knew how Amanda hated the smell.of his sneakers, so he would leave it ajar to air the room out, and she could shut it when she got in. He pulled two things out of his jacket, before hanging it on a hook on the back of the door. Both looked like smart phones, but he tossed one onto the bed, next to the underwear.
He slipped his socks off and pulled off his t-shirt, then jeans. He folded everything and stepped over to the wardrobe to stash them. He then walked back to the bed in only his boxers. He set his phone down on the bed and picked up the other device.
Clark paused for a moment, weighing up the merits and risks of what he was about to do. At the end of the day, it all came down to the fact that he trusted Amanda. This was crazy, but they had done their research, and it was safe. They had agreed to do it together when she got home, but Clark wanted to surprise her, so he had come early.
He pushed a button on the side of the slightly thicker device and a hatch popped open. Inside were two pills the size of tic-tacs. He rolled one into his palm, and closed the port. Clark rolled the tiny object between his fingers and almost didn't believe what it was going to do. Grinning from ear to ear in anticipation, he tossed the pill into his mouth and swallowed.
Now the fun part. He unlocked his phone and keyed a text to Amanda.

He hit send, then tossed the phone onto her desk, picking up the second touchscreen device again. A button on the left unlocked the screen, and he typed in X0599, the password that he and Amanda had agreed on. The screen lit up the dark bedroom, showing a range of buttons. A standard "+" and "-" seemed evident enough, and a bright red "abort" was also present. A few other buttons didn't seem as straightforward in their functions, but the boy knew that Amanda would have read up about them. He was most interested in the bar at the top of the screen which was flashing with dashes at present. Then in an instant, it read 188cm.
Clark grinned, ready to try it out for real. He had wanted to surprise Amanda, but in leaving her panties out just for him, he guessed that she had had the same idea. The thought of her trying to find him when she'd know all along right where he was going to be was tantalizing. He tugged down his underwear and kicked it under Amanda's bed before climbing on.
He straddled the panties on his knees and decided to test the thing out before going all the way. He held the remote up and held the minus button. He watched the number on the top bar drop from 188 to 90cm. He released the button and waited for a moment. Suddenly, he felt a tingling sensation all over his body, he felt his vision warp, and then suddenly he started to shrink.
He kept his proportions, but the lanky young man halved in size, his knees coming closer together as he finally stopped getting smaller. He looked down at the underwear he had been kneeling over, and they now stretched wider than his whole body. He looked up and the notes taped to the wall had grown and now sat above him.
It worked!
Clark almost couldn't believe it, and in his excitement, almost dropped the device, now too big for him to hold in one hand. He grinned as the plan came together in his head. He would shrink himself down and get into position in Amanda's panties. Then the game would begin as she got him all to herself for the next few days, and they could have all kinds of fun together.
Clark was a macrophile, and he had always dreamed of being used and toyed with by a gorgeous woman like Amanda. He had been lucky that she was open to the idea, and had even done most of the heavy lifting with getting the device once he had found the seller of the device. He didn't know how much she actually wanted to do it, but he was more than excited enough for the both of them.
He needed to make sure that Amanda would find the remote, so he would have to safely place it within view after he was tiny. He knew that he wouldn't be able to move the controller once shrunken, so he would have to be quick after entering his desired size.
The young man took a deep breath and held down the "-" button, watching the numbers spin down rapidly. He released as soon as it hit 1cm, but he wasn't fast enough. Clark's eyes widened as he watched the numbers continue to decrease after his thumb left the screen, and stop at 5mm.
He tried to press the other button, but it was too late. The tingling took over his body, and in a flash, he began to shrink. His thumb no longer reached the buttons and he tried to press with his other hand, but the device had gotten too heavy, and started to slip out of his quickly reducing hand. In his fumbling attempt to stop himself from shrinking so much, he pushed the phone forward as he shrank and he watched in horror as it sailed away from him, hitting the wall and slipping behind the back of the bed.
But Clark didn't get a chance to go after it, as a feeling of falling overwhelmed him and as he blinked, he found himself in a very different environment. he shot down into a whole new environment. He had shrunk with such velocity that he actually did fall onto his stomach, landing on a soft, black surface in the dark room. He raised his head and could not believe what he was seeing.
Shrinking to just under a meter was one thing, but now as he got to his feet, he found himself experiencing something far more unbelievable. The previously normal-sized, even tall to some, man was now standing on a spacious plain of cotton that was in fact, the pair of panties that he had been over. He could suddenly smell the fabric softener and he could feel the individual threads under his tiny feet. He turned around, looking off into the distance to take in his surroundings.
The far wall that ran alongside the bed was several leagues away, over the desert of Amanda’s bed sheets. The once insignificant wrinkled in the bedding had transformed into huge hills and dunes, which Clark guessed could probably support his now immeasurably small weight. The bed itself seemed infinite in its length, as it stretched as far as he could see from head to toe. He then turned to the other side and looked out over the edge of the bed at the rest of the room. He had to take a moment to gasp in awe.
The frankly cramped student-let bedroom was gone, and in its place stood the most expansive world that Clark had ever laid eyes on. He had climbed a few mountains in his life, but the view from the impossibly tall bed was staggering. He could see his shoes, too far away to even fathom reaching after a day of walking, where he had tossed them only moments before. He saw Amanda’s desk, like a plateau, raised miles off the forest of carpeting on the ground, but couldn’t quite see the top of it. He had never realized that the desk was taller than her bed, and it certainly couldn’t have been a great difference, but at his size, even a few centimeters seemed like the height of a building.
He felt the hairs on the back of his neck prick up and realized that there was a fairly strong current of air in the room. He looked over to the window that he had opened, letting in the ghastly autumn breeze. He hadn’t even been able to feel it at normal size, but at half a centimeter, even the softest gust could have sent him flying. He cursed himself for not thinking of that, but shrugged it off: Amanda could close it when she arrived.
Instead of ruminating on his mistakes, he returned his focus to the task at hand: his surprise. Obviously, if his girlfriend had left out these panties on the day he was going to shrink himself, she must have been expecting him to be in them when she got home. Knowing how easy it would be to get lost at his size, Clark didn’t want to take any chances, and actually quite liked the idea himself. He picked the shortest distance to the edge of the panties, and began to walk.
The surface felt firm beneath his feet, nowhere near as soft as the bed was when he was big. Clark guessed that because he was now so light, he didn’t weigh enough to compress bedding at all, so it was as easy as strolling on solid ground. He felt strange being naked in such an exposed space, but he supposed that it was no different to when he had been at normal size in the same room. He knew that Amanda’s housemates had strict policies on not going into each other's rooms, so he wasn’t worried about being interrupted. With that in mind, he merrily hiked the seemingly few hundred yards to the edge of the black underwear.
When he reached his destination, he hopped off onto the bedding and grabbed the top layer of the cotton pants. He lifted it up but it was heavier than he had imagined. He was able to get it up to his chest, but it wasn’t as easy as lifting a sheet. Re-thinking his strategy, Clark slipped under the heavy canvas and got onto his hands and knees, allowing the panties to fall onto his back. Satisfied that he could carry it, he started crawling back towards the center, gleefully trying to decide where on them he would wait, and more importantly, what part of Amanda’s body he wanted to be pressed into first.
In the distance, he heard his cellphone buzz, probably with a message, but he didn’t pay it any mind. Amanda would soon be there and she could deal with whatever it was. He was just making it to the middle of the panties when he heard the front door open in the distance. It must have been Amanda.
Clark stopped crawling and waited patiently in the dark tent of the panties, unable to see, but certainly able to hear and feel the vibrations of someone in the house. Their footsteps were like distant earthquakes, and the tiny boy made a note to be careful around his girlfriend’s feet at this size. As he waited patiently for his girlfriend to arrive, the glow of his phone screen started to dim, having provided the only light in the room with its curtains drawn. As the screen faded to black, so too did the message notification.
