I'd argue most of the American guests ever are only there because they know the score. I think (as on a lot of UK panel shows) it's often younger BIPOC Brits who are not part of the traditional QI audience who seem like they maybe say yes while not having paid much attention to it before, and are entertainingly improvising their way around the curves.
