I don't want Main to join the Cathedral I was so happy her parents didn't approve just because of books. Not to say being in the cathedral is bad but I feel once she's read all the books she'd soon begin to dread it and probably be stuck in that lifestyle. There is no freedom I feel.

Now the story is stepping into a new stage. Main’s social "range" started from her family, to her neighbors and friends, the "civilian world"; then by otto, to other merchants, the "rich people world"; now to the cathedral, the "religious world". This kind of expansion is adding more options and opportunities for Main herself. We can see that things used to be hard or even impossible becomes viable and feasible, as Main explored more of the world and society.
