There are fifty thousand apoc stories out there with MCs like Rajesh, they're all shit. I actually LIKE the mistakes Blake has made so far in the story because they're not ruinous. To err is human and all that, and his actions have helped drive the plot, for good or bad. Rajesh is a perfect example of a very dumb smart person. He's convinced he's always right and anyone who things different is obviously wrong and if only they were as smart as him they'd see things his way. His morals also seem... Kinda fucked up. This chapter made me think that he's only leaving because he's convinced he can't breach the gap between him and Blake in power and thus can never stage a coup for control of the faction. I think he'll try to set up his own faction but I doubt he'll get very far. I can't see many people being willing to follow him for very long once they realize what kind of person he is. Still, I really wish Blake had changed his mind and given him a much harsher punishment for a single reason, that person obviously doesn't give a shit that a woman is dead. That one of his teamates is dead. It would have been beautiful if his smug dressing down of Blake resulted in Blake becoming more ruthless staging a public execution. Or at least a very thorough ass kicking, maybe that would have even been good for Raj's character development. Because it wasn't that long ago that being a rude asshole could get you killed and it looks like the world is heading in that direction again. Be careful who you offend, it might just be someone 5 levels above you with a bad temper.

While we did spend a week or more at Quartzsite every year, we never made it to Lake Havasu. We prefer trees, despite the colder/snowiet weather required for them to grow. That was how we found the Pinetop / Show Low area, and then decided to move here. I actually began writing this story months before we decided to buy a house here.

Curiosity, Author? I get the impression from your story locations that you are more than a little familiar with Arizona. Do you and your wife hang out in my old stompin' grounds of Lake Havasu with your 5th wheel in the winter months? Even the cold water came out of the taps hot/warm in Arizona winters while I was there. I escaped to much cooler climes...Nevada. Heh! :-)

Paul Kirk

Rajesh thinking our main character makes stupid decisions doesn't make him a villain. On some accounts I can agree with him. Rajesh just seems pragmatic and likely after the apocalyse he teamed up with the others due to lack of options that aligned with his perspective.

Thanks for the Surprise extra chapter, author. For a minute there after Chapter 83, I thought that the villagers would be showing up for Tea & Scones at Doctor Frankenstein's castle (with farm tools and burning torches....just for the ambiance, of course!) :-)

Timothy Nugent

I suggest vpn and polymarket

I now have a love/hate relationship with Rajesh. I respect the heck out of Rajesh for telling Blake, (to his face, in front of his Mother, even!) that he has been an emotional IDIOT from square one. That took real Hutzpah! On the other hand, if both you and I can see 9 chapters into the future where Rajesh is competing for limited resources with Mayberry RFD, then a SMART Blake would dry his eyes and run (Like the SIx Million Dollar Man) after Rajesh's car and kill Rajesh away from prying eyes. It would be sad and traumatic for Blake, but it would likely save hundreds if not thousands of lives in the future civil war that leaving Rajesh alive would result in. It will never happen, because Rajesh has balls, Blake doesn't. :-)

John Doe

Thanks for the heads up, author. It makes me feel a wee bit better. I am still going to Vegas to bet on Rajesh being King of The Human Empire in the near future. :-)

Undead Writer

Like this post if you are in the Kill Rajesh Hate Club!

John Doe

I love your focus, man! 1. Wake up, get out of bed. Kill Rajesh. 2. Brush teeth. What? Rajesh is still breathing? Kill him again. 3. Get in the car to go to work...Waaaa? Rajesh is managing to crawl away? *Thump, thump.* Roll over Rajesh with your car! One would suspect that you are not a fan of Rajesh? Hehehe!

Timothy Nugent

Sorry, but your predictions are wrong on every single count. Rajesh and the government will never team up. He is too conceited for that.

Undead Writer

Well, that was stupid. We now know who the big bad human enemy will be. Author has made it blatantly obvious now. Since he couldn’t kill him for stupid, stupid reasons, he’s now going to have to kill him later during what I can only assume is the human faction wars. Man this is so predictable. Just kill him and move on! But I guess you need to give the government a chance with Rajesh. Uhhhhhh. I knew this was coming when the Author wouldn’t let Rajesh die. I mean sure, it finally creates and enemy that’s not just the ambiguous apocalypse. I’m going to predict the rest of book one. Rajesh works with gov. to let his family into country. Rajesh teaches gov about the system. Rajesh and gov build towns, teams. End up fighting between MC and Rajesh. Rajesh uses MC’s obvious weakness against him. Kills a family member or something. Probably his mother to take over the town. MC is now without faction and has to fight by himself to get stronger against the endless hoards of monsters. MC kills Rajesh FINALLY, leaves town to the young woman’s mom who died because of Rajesh and MC’ stupidity. She then works with the mail stylist woman who had her own faction. Etc. MC sad, reflect for a minute, not learn anything. BOOM book one done. It should be a good read now that Rajesh is dead.

The Character being Indian did not stop Benedict Cumberbatch from rocking the role in Star Trek: Into Darkness. Heh!

Timothy Nugent

Maybe Kumail Nanjiani from Silicon Valley and the Eternals? He has a punchable face.

Timothy Nugent

That would be great. Although, Rajesh is Indian...

John Doe

Rajesh is going to be the best Khan Noonien Singh to Blake's Kirk, EVER! I suspect that Rajesh's "empire" will absolutely leave Blake's Kumbaya Gee Golly Mayberry RFD camp in the 'fracking dust! When this book gets made into a movie, you should petition Benedict Cumberbatch to play the part of Rajesh! *Rubs hands together in expectant glee!* :-)

John Doe

1. “I had to trust someone!” Blake argued." No, You Didn't. 2. "Is he right? Am I too emotional?" Absofrackinglutely! 3. "He thinks I’m being too soft on everyone, and he’s not wrong.” Until Blake said that, I had lost most of my respect for him. At least he finally 'fessed up' to being a creampuff. :-) 4. I gotta' say, I never expected to actually respect Rajesh. He has intelligence and BALLS! *Yes, he is an A-Hole, but he manages to stay rational in the most high pressure situation he could possibly be in! Wow! 5. I see what Blake did there (even if it was simply reflexive on his part). He played Verbal/Social Judo. "No, your laziness contributed to your sister's death!" Wow, and I thought that I was Cold! *That is still a neat form of dodging the blame, though. :-)

John Doe

Blake may need to go all "Grizzly Adams" and leave the hot mess of this original habitat, soon. If a François Leclerc du Tremblay arises, they will find a way to politically or via a phone call to the Feds, neutralize Blake. Dang! I need more butter for this popcorn!!

Corwin

Rajesh should go for being a Tri class and Faction Leader. Not sure where his Faction should be. I am thinking around Tombstone. Isolated but perfect for a Faction to build

John Doe

You tease, you! :-) I await your next chapter with baited breath and popcorn!!! *Duh! You are bloody fast. I posted the tease statement thinking the chapter was coming out later. I did not notice that you posted before I refreshed the screen. Impressive, Kemosabe!*

John Anastacio

Truly excellent chapter. I'm impressed. Rajesh was right on all counts. It's too bad he's such a smirking asshole no one with feelings would want around. Chances are good he ends up as eminence grise to a better leader than Blake who actually needs and values him. Assuming he doesn't get killed, of course. I wonder if he's aware of Blake's titles and that Blake is the strongest human alive.

Timothy Nugent

Surprise! Second chapter in one day!
