Eventually, crafters are able to make custom gear at the same level or higher than the scenario rewards. However, that takes time, and the appropriate non-combat class. I will go into their path of advancement in the future. As far as why would they choose to be a crafter? The same reason people get jobs. To eat. They either earn a wage of nano for contributing to the faction, or they construct nano-gear/potions/whatever and sell the items for nano directly. They can then use that nano to purchase high level gear with high attributes for themselves, better food, better shelter, and just generally have a higher quality of life. The entire time, they are protected within the city and do not risk their lives.

Malcolm Haynes

Yeah, in my opinion the idea that crafters not stepping up to protect their faction is the problem. I’d consider reworking the crafter dynamics. For example, if a blacksmith ultimately can’t improve/make better gear than can be found in the rifts, what’s their point? If an alchemist can’t make some devastating or life saving potions , what’s the point? It makes sense that crafters also have “powers” mana, aether, etc. that let them make superhuman gear. Maybe they can’t learn combat spells, only crafting ones. Maybe it doesn’t make sense for them to put points anywhere other than certain crafter attributes to be the best crafter, but they should have ability to level and improve based off effort and aptitude just like the combat classes. Because if they just sitting around waiting to build like automatons puppeted by the system, why would anyone sign up for that?

Blake gave his brother nano gear: “Sure, you can have some gear. But, if one of the combat teams needs it, you’ll have to give it back.” He promised the old man nano, but has yet to give it to him. Monsters can not appear within a town, and walls keep them out. Once a base reaches a high enough level, they can construct a shield generator to protect the town as well. Crafters are always safe, and I suppose you could say they are in a way second class citizens. However, they are not willing to step up and protect their faction in combat, it makes more sense to reward those who do. If Blake gave away all of his gear to the crafters, the combat classes he recruits in the future will be far more likely to die.

Malcolm Haynes

Blake is kind of a deusche. I mean, he knows his brother has a disease that reduces his strength and resistance plus there are no other combatants in the faction yet, and he’s all “No. only combatants get accessories”. He gave the jerk landlord nano to get stronger to farm, but hasn’t thought to do the same for his brother just so he can live life a little easier. Dick move bro. Speaking of which, if there will be monsters outside of rifts, means the bases can’t be impregnable. So why wouldn’t the crafters get something for worse case scenarios? Crafters still wreak of NPC second class citizens.

Thanks for the chapter!

Mr. Bigglesworth

While I agree, this is also the path of a Planetary Leader, he's not some middle manager or minor scout now.

Danielle Warvel

The Architect is a complete Scrooge MacDuck. Those prices are ridiculous.
