I have given it a lot of thought, and this is how Elena has accomplished this feat given that she's behind one of those big bar counters. Here is a very accurate, scientific diagram, drawn completely to scale*

Anyway, Elena's willingness to climb on bar counters is part of the reason why Denver is so startled here, but the other part is it's incredibly intimidating to suddenly have as beautiful a woman as Elena all up in your space, seemingly judging your life in her hands!!!!
