Thank you so much for the comment and kind words! I just love the layers here - honestly, if these layers are prevalent in more mecha anime…I might need to watch more! I love Noriko’s character development! She just excelled in this episode and I love how far she’s come over the course of just a few episodes - the pacing of this show is just wonderful to see! I agree, showing the “Cost” of being a pilot is really well done throughout this as well and I know will come up in episodes to come! And the spectacle of the space battle was so great! The horror of the battle and the action – it was all so well done! Thank you for the comment and kind words! And oh yeah, I will not lose the opportunity to poke fun at Ohta! ;) So excited for Episode 5!

Loved the reaction and discussion! All the elements you talked about regarding the layers upon layers of tone – drama, camp, horror, etcetc – are exactly why I love mecha! 🥰 Agree that the way they showed Noriko’s progression and how she overcame her doubts in the moment was really well put together. Noriko’s scream of determination is one of my absolute favourite moments. And I really like the way they portray Noriko overall. There’s always a cost to being a mecha pilot and I like that here it’s the fact that the more of a ‘hero’ she becomes the more of a distance there is between her and everyone else. And of course – all the spectacle! Gave me everything I could have wanted with that battle. I especially love how they make use of scale – GunBuster being a spec coming up against that monster, then a giant when against a regular mech.
