Whiskey Wednesday

I recently had to travel to the Bay area and had some time to kill before my hotel room was ready, so I decided to go down to the wharf for some clam chowder, which I haven't had in forever. Though I grew up in the Bay area, I really didn't go down to the Wharf very often, so it was a treat to play tourist for a bit. I was mixed about the day I chose to go down there though. It was unusually crowded, even when I expected traffic. What I didn't realize was that it was Fleet Week and there was an Italian parade.
When I finally found some parking, it all got much better after that. I went to the Franciscan Crab, which is an old favorite, with a beautiful view of the Bay. Made it just in time before the crowds. I got my bread bowl of clam chowder and some oysters to make it feel like home. Seeing that it was pretty early in the day and warm, I decided to have a refreshing Prosecco drink called a Splash.
Just as I was about to finish, a loud thundering boom shook the entire restaurant and jets started going by, right in front of me. Wow, is all I could say. They were so close to the water that it felt like they would shear the sails from the floating sailboats. What an awesome view! Now, if they could have flown me out of downtown, it would have made for the perfect day. It was still super memorable.
