“Talking”
—----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“My Kale’s been talkin’ big about you,” Caulifla hummed, the woman stretching across from Gray. They were inside the training room with thick walls, which was likely made solely for sparring.
Gray glanced over at Kale, who was standing by the doorway to watch the spar, with a raised eyebrow at Caulifla’s words. In response, Kale just glanced away with a slight blush.
I guess I left an impact on her on Yardrat.
As Gray stared down Caulifla, he glanced at her stat sheet again, which was a bit surprising.
[Confident] Caulifla:
[Saiyan S-Class Recruit]
Age: 20
PL: 8.1 Billion
HP: 4,129,980/4,129,980
TKI: 3,490,275/3,490,275
[Confident] Modifier - Individuals with this modifier will be naturally confident, believing in their own abilities.
She’s not that far ahead of me right now. Hopefully she’s the strongest S-Class recruit.
That girl’s power level was a fair bit higher than Gray’s current one, but not high enough that it’d exceed his if he used his available points. Considering that King Vegeta himself had mentioned Caulifla during Gray’s first meeting with him, he figured that she was probably the best S-Class had to offer. Gray hoped that was the case at least, as it would mean he would be the strongest S-Class whenever he used his points.
“It’ll just be a quick spar, so none of these, deal?” Caulifla asked casually, raising her hand and showcasing a ball of Ki sitting in her palm.
“Fine by me,” Gray simply nodded. He had already used a lot of Ki in his training, so fighting without using Ki blasts was actually to his benefit.
“Don’t disappoint me, big guy,” Caulifla grinned as she shifted into combat stance, “Kale got me all excited!”
This will actually be pretty tough.
Gray shifted into his own combat stance. He was already down a fair bit of HP from the training he had been doing, which consisted a lot of him shooting himself with Ki blasts whenever the [Reflect] timer reset and losing HP as a result. He still didn’t know exactly how long it took for [Reflect]’s 50,000HP limit to reset, but it was roughly a few minutes.
I could use some points, but…
He decided against it. It had been a while since he'd had a good fight, and it would be good to fight against an opponent stronger than himself for once. It would be underwhelming if he just stomped the floor with her.
“I could say the same,” Gray matched her grin, a small bead of excitement building up within him, “I’ll be pissed if you talk so big and don’t give me a good fight.”
“You bet I will!” A split second later, Caulifla was in front of him, the girl lashing out with a punch. Gray swiftly leaned to the side, letting the punch fly past him and retaliating with his own. His punch missed her as the girl was even faster than he had imagined. Caulifla vanished from his sight the moment his counterstrike whiffed.
Damn, she’s fast.
Her power level wasn’t just for show.
Gray barely had time to raise his guard before her boot slammed into his ribs from the side, sending him sliding across the floor slightly.
-0 HP! (1,921,520/2,412,100)
11,725 HP! (4,118,255/4,129,980)
He grit his teeth, digging his heels into the ground to stop the momentum. She was fast, and there was definitely some power behind her kick, but [Reflect] had absorbed most of it.
“What the…” Caulifla muttered, glancing down at her own stomach confusedly as she felt the pain of her own attack.
Overall, she’s not bad.
But Gray had no intention of losing, even if the woman was fast enough to the point that he’d have trouble keeping up with her.
I’ll win even without using points.
He blitzed forward at Caulifla before she had a chance to get over her confusion, lashing out with a punch. As Caulifla quickly leaned out of the way, Gray adjusted his attack mid-swing. His punch shifted into an open palm as he lunged forward, wrapping his arms around Caulifla’s waist.
She blinked, surprised by the sudden shift in approach, but by the time she realized what he was doing, it was too late. With a grunt, Gray pivoted his stance, his muscles tensing as he lifted the girl off the floor and hurled her across the room with a suplex-like toss. The woman's strength definitely surpassed Gray’s despite his success, as despite her small frame the movement had taken a lot of effort.
Caulifla twisted in mid-air, flipping twice before she slammed into the wall feet-first with a muffled boom, negating pretty much all of the attack as dust shook loose from the ceiling. The thick wall held up from the impact, and Gray didn’t even get a damage notification.
She’s nimble.
He didn’t give her time to compose herself anymore - the second her feet touched the floor again he was already in front of her, his fist hurtling toward her. As it did, Gray silently used [Prediction] - not to predict where her next attack was going to be, but instead to see where she would dodge.
She’s too fast, so I’ll need to make up for it somehow.
Gray’s fist slammed towards Caulifla’s face, then abruptly swerved to the side - right to where the girl was leaning. Her eyes went wide as Gray’s fist made direct contact on her cheek, sending her stumbling to the side from the unexpected blow.
14,105 HP! (4,104,150/4,129,980)
That’s it?
Gray was sticking by Caulifla’s earlier request and wasn’t coating his fist in Ki, but he was still using Ki to enhance the overall strength of his punch. Even without the Ki-enhancement, Gray had been hoping it would do a bit more damage.
Caulifla shook off the attack quickly, launching herself at him again. She leaped into the air, appearing next to Gray so quickly that he could barely track her movements as she spun around and flung a kick at him. It was directed at his chest, but…
This is exactly what I want.
Gray tensed his legs, stiffening as he let the kick connect.
-0 HP! (1,921,520/2,412,100)
35,995 HP! (4,068,155/4,129,980)
Gray slid back slightly from the impact, but grit his teeth as he managed to mostly maintain his stance. Cauifla hissed in confusion as she instinctively grabbed at her own chest, confused as to why a sudden pain wracked it, and that was all the opportunity Gray needed.
He reached up, wrapping his palm around her ankle as her leg was extended, and then swiftly yanked her. Despite the large gap in strength, Caulifla was caught off guard as her body was swung through the air. Gray swung her leg downward, controlling the rest of her body and pounding her face-first into the training room's floor.
44,270 HP! (4,023,885/4,129,980)
Caulifla wasn’t given a moment of reprieve as Gray grunted, yanking up on her leg again. To Caulifla’s credit, she had recovered pretty quickly. Her fingers dug into the training room floor, tearing through the rock as she fought against Gray’s grip, but it didn’t work. Her arms simply couldn’t compete against the strength of Gray’s entire body pulling her upward.
She countered again as Gray whipped her body into the air, twirling her body mid-air as she slammed her other foot back at him in a kick. It connected with Gray’s chest, but he simply ignored it.
-17,550 HP! (1,903,970/2,412,100)
2,280 HP! (4,021,605/4,129,980)
She couldn’t get much force into her kick from her position, so Gray didn’t budge from the force. He rotated his body to the side, swinging with all the force in his body as he flung Caulifla by her leg at the wall.
47,900 HP! (3,973,705/4,129,980)
She slammed into the wall roughly, the thick wall cracking behind her. Gray blitzed forward at her again, cocking back his fist as [Prediction] activated.
She’s going left.
True to his thoughts, Caulifla quickly pushed herself to the left to dodge his punch - but instead of aiming at where she was, Gray’s fist instead barreled at where she had dodged to.
71,525 HP! (3,902,180/4,129,980)
It pounded into her gut, causing Caulifla’s eyes to widen as spit flew out of her mouth. She wasn’t able to react as a flurry of less charged-up punches followed.
52,000 HP! (3,850,180/4,129,980)
49,750 HP! (3,800,430/4,129,980)
47,200 HP! (3,753,230/4,129,980)
55,580 HP! (3,697,650/4,129,980)
Caulifla finally managed to regain her senses, shoving off the wall roughly as she leaned around one of Gray’s punches. Her fist jabbed into Gray’s stomach faster than he could react, causing him to grunt lightly.
-12,900 HP! (1,891,070/2,412,100)
Gray took a step back as Caulifla flipped backwards after breaking Gray’s assault, landing on her feet as her body tensed.
I get it now.
“That’s enough,” Gray said abruptly, relaxing his body as Caulifla blinked rapidly, looking at him confusedly.
“What? You outta energy already?” She mocked him lightly.
“Nah, you just…” Gray smirked slightly as he knew what he was about to say would piss her off, “Kinda suck.”
“W-What the hell did you say?!” Caulifla yelled, glaring at him as a fire burned in his eyes.
However, Gray didn’t just say that to piss her off. It was the truth.
This fight was way too easy. She’s almost double my power level, but she was getting her ass beat.
And he knew why now. Simply put: Caulifla sucked at fighting.
Well, ‘suck’ might be a bit of an exaggeration.
She wasn’t terrible - she knew the basics. She could dodge, punch, maneuver her body well, and she could counter. But she relied heavily on her pure power and physical advantages.
She made too many mistakes.
Gray had been given a chance to slam her into the ground from her first mistake - clutching at her chest as [Reflect] caused her own attack to hurt her.
Seriously, she was right next to her opponent and paused because of a bit of pain?
Her leg had literally been touching Gray’s chest, but she had paused and taken her eyes off him because of a twinge of pain. Beyond that, she had also let him abuse [Prediction] far too much.
Even if she didn’t know how I was predicting where she moved, she should’ve adapted to it.
His flurry of punches would’ve been negated if Caulifla had simply held up her guard as she tried to dodge his initial punch.
She got this far because of her insane potential, but she’s a full-on rookie.
Caulifla had so much power and pure physical ability that she could’ve easily ascended the ranks at the academy even without actually being a good fighter. Even if her opponents were far more experienced than her, she simply had the pure power to break through.
Honestly, Kolra was better than her.
Considering that she was the top of S-Class and he was the bottom of A-Class, that shouldn’t have been the case, but it was true. While Kolra’s base power couldn’t hold a candle to Caulifla’s, his fighting technique was actually better.
“Don’t take it as an insult,” Gray hummed, grinning widely as Caulifla glared at him, “Because I’m gonna make you not suck.”
It’ll be nice to have a fellow monster on my side.
