We’re headed to probably the most dangerous place in the multiverse next month: THE NEGATIVE ENERGY PLANE.
What is it?
The Negative Energy Plane is a vast, infinite void of absolute darkness and entropy, a realm of uncreation where life is drained away and only undeath thrives. It is a hostile, airless expanse filled with necrotic energy, capable of extinguishing the spark of living creatures who remain unprotected. Unlike other planes, it lacks solid ground, gravity, or conventional material—only raw destruction, swirling shadows, and the occasional fortress of powerful undead. This plane fuels necromancy, empowers creatures of darkness, and serves as the foundation for many of the multiverse’s most feared horrors. Even the Dustmen and Doomguard tread carefully here, for to enter unprepared is to risk eternal oblivion.

1. Deathheart
Description: A 1-mile-wide metallic sphere, originally a failed colony project, now inhabited by undead and feared as a nexus of undeath. It contains a fully developed Prime-like city within its interior.
Adventure Hook: Explore the city to uncover the source of its immunity to the plane’s energy or battle factions of powerful undead vying for control .
2. Fortress of the Soul
Description: A citadel maintained by the Dustmen, dedicated to the philosophy of True Death. It serves as a place of quiet contemplation for about fifty Dustmen and provides refuge for planar travelers lost in the plane.
Adventure Hook: Protect the fortress from a siege by planar entities, or seek the knowledge of Dustmen leaders about True Death .
3. Tcian Sumere
Description: A hidden fortress tied to Tenebrous, a powerful entity possibly connected to Orcus. It is rumored to hold secrets of great necromantic power.
Adventure Hook: Infiltrate the fortress to prevent Tenebrous’ forces from opening a permanent portal to the Negative Energy Plane .
4. The Vortex of Siva
Description: The domain of Siva, the embodiment of destruction and annihilation. Anything entering this vortex is utterly destroyed, making it an extreme hazard.
Adventure Hook: Recover an artifact that was lost near the Vortex or investigate the Doomguard’s rumored worship of Siva here .
5. Cavitium
Description: A vast skull-shaped structure, once home to Vecna, and now possibly more dangerous than during his reign. Ghosts and powerful incorporeal undead roam its shadowy halls.
Adventure Hook: Retrieve a lost relic tied to Vecna or survive the assault of a newly risen spirit lord tapping into the plane’s energy .
6. Citadel of Former Flame
Description: A magically shifting fortress of ash, ruled by Gazra, the Shifting Emperor. The citadel’s form changes constantly, making it an unpredictable and eerie place.
Adventure Hook: Negotiate with Gazra for an alliance or uncover the mystery behind the citadel’s constant transformation .
7. Negative Pockets
Description: Rare pockets of highly concentrated negative energy scattered across the plane. These areas are lethally dangerous, capable of draining life and power from anything that enters.
Adventure Hook: Locate a rumored artifact hidden within one of these pockets while battling its destructive effects .
8. Crystal Range
Description: A chain of barren mountains formed where the Negative Energy Plane borders the Quasielemental Plane of Salt. The range’s moisture-draining properties turn intruders into salt statues.
Adventure Hook: Investigate the mysterious formation of the Crystal Range and survive its deadly environment .
9. The Consumption
Description: A chaotic border region between the Quasielemental Planes of Dust and Salt. It is a swirling sandstorm of disintegrating matter and dehydrating effects.
Adventure Hook: Escort a caravan through this treacherous area to establish a trade route between planar factions .
10. Citadel Sealt
Description: A Doomguard fortress in the Quasielemental Plane of Salt, carved entirely from the salt of the plane. Overseen by Doomlord Roth, this citadel symbolizes the entropy and decay of the multiverse.
Adventure Hook: Disrupt Doomlord Roth’s efforts to collapse neighboring planes into decay, or retrieve a stolen artifact hidden within the crystalline halls .
11. Citadel Exhalus
Description: A Doomguard stronghold located in the Quasielemental Plane of Vacuum. It serves as a temple of annihilation and a focal point for those who revere entropy. A portal connects it directly to the Negative Energy Plane.
Adventure Hook: Infiltrate the citadel to prevent a Doomguard faction from unleashing annihilation upon neighboring planes or retrieve an artifact hidden within its lifeless halls.
