UPDATE (OCT 6): A compile error that occurs when disabling Atmospheric Godrays has been fixed. Re-download to get the fixed version!
So, I talked about an improvement for the GI denoising filter I've been working on for this update in this post recently. I tried really hard to get it ready for this update (which is why this release is coming a little later than usual), but it's just not there quite yet; it still has performance and visual issues. I'll keep working at it!
Other than this new feature which I couldn't include yet, I've mostly been working on bugfixes and performance improvements for this update. Performance has overall improved since E9, even with a few newly added features!
Also, after further investigation about whether to use instancing rather than geometry shaders to achieve voxelization, for now it seems that instancing isn't overall worth it. Only a small minority of users with atypical hardware combination saw a significant increase in performance vs geometry shaders. Also, instancing is much more fragile and can cause very broken lighting when using resource packs with custom block models (which is still not recommended yet), which isn't fun. Overall, it doesn't seem worth it for the added work of essentially managing two different versions of SEUS PTGI. So, this version just goes back to the old way of doing it before E9: geometry shaders.
Here's the changelog:
- New reflection denoising filter, now shows reflection elongation at grazing angles and shows less flickering at near contact points
- Fixed issue where ray traced reflections weren't as bright as they should be
- Sunlight tinted by stained glass now bounces the correct color in GI
- Added Atmospheric Godrays (can be disabled in Lighting & Shadows Options > Atmospheric Godrays). Godrays are also tinted by stained glass
- Actually for real fixed the black sky underwater bug
- Fixed rain splash effect showing on water in caves
- Fixed water refraction artifacts on edges of objects in front of water
- Fixed bug causing wrong reflection coloring, was mostly visible on water
- Lots of small optimizations, leading to an overall performance increase vs E9, even with new features
- Fixed jittering appearance of screen-space reflections on water
- Changes to sky, much more natural horizon colors
- Screen-space shadows on grass adjusted to prevent weird noisy light leaking
- Sunlight shadow artifacts reduced, incorrect self-shadowing "banding" reduced at near noon times, less shadow "peter panning"
- Reduced artifacts at edges of water in shadow/caustics
- Furnaces now emit GI, only from their lit side
- Added "Utility" options section
- Added Utility > Visualize Dangerous Light Level for helping determine where mobs may spawn in survival gameplay (highlights areas with a block light level of 7 or less)
- Added grass path and farmland tracing to "Geometry Raytrace Quality" 1 and up, and they no longer fail to be voxelized and traced at "Geometry Raytrace Quality" 0
- Added Raytracing Options > GI Leaf Transparency option. Allows for leaves to partially allow indirect light through them instead of fully blocking light. Enabled by default. Causes a slight decrease in performance, you may turn it off if you wish.
- Added Raytracing Options > Glowing Emerald Block option. Enabled by default.
- Tweaked sunlight colors, sunlight should be a little more realistically golden during sunrise/sunset
- Fixed average exposure calculation not sampling from the center of the screen, causing lopsided exposure adjustment
PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING REQUIREMENTS FOR USING THIS SHADER PACK!
- Minecraft 1.14.4 (older version compatibility isn’t possible until new OptiFine features are ported back)
- OptiFine HD U F3 or newer
- Options > Video Settings > Details > Alternate Blocks: OFF
- Options > Video Settings > Details > Trees: Fancy or Fast (Smart may break lighting)
- Options > Video Settings > Quality > Natural Textures: OFF
- Options > Video Settings > Shaders > Shadow Quality: 1x
- Options > Video Settings > Shaders > Old Lighting : DEFAULT
- Resource packs with custom block models will probably cause lighting glitches!!!!!!
Some of the currently known issues are as follows:
- Block texture alpha is not considered in diffuse GI tracing, so doors and trapdoors don't let any light through their windows currently.
- Being underwater in ravines/caves shows some light leaking, and “glowing” water fog. This is unavoidable currently.
- "Disco Floor" flickering artifact mostly seen in reflections (the new Secondary GI Samples option can help with this)
- Secondary GI bounces (2nd bounce and onward) can take a while to adapt to lighting changes
- Issues with the rendering of semi-transparent/translucent materials
- Lighting breaks often when using resource packs with custom models, a solution is being investigated!
AN IMPORTANT NOTE ON GRAPHICS DRIVER ISSUES AND GPU COMPATIBILITY:
Since different GPUs can compile shaders differently than others, you may experience compile errors (causes "[Shaders] Error: Invalid program..." messages to appear in the in-game chat).
If you experience compile errors and you're using an NVIDIA GPU, you can help me fix them by following the steps on this page, in the "How to Report a Compile Error" drop-down section and sending me the log!
Compatibility with AMD GPUs is being actively worked on. You will still experience some minor visual bugs, and you may experience random crashing. If you experience crashing while trying to load the game or enable SEUS PTGI, try doing so first in windowed mode, with a small window.
Compatibility with Intel GPUs is not guaranteed or planned at all!

nicole is your laptop good? Or not
Oliver Martin
Why is the sky glitching like its a shadow of the old cloud but flashing
it is most certainly because you are on a laptop. these shaders are for dedicated GPUs [in PCs], laptops just do not have the hardware resources to maintain steady FPS.

How do I apply the mincraft Texturpack?
Mr Pickle
Looks amazing! I am just getting this really weird lighting effect through stained glass where instead of displaying the light block it displays a bunch of jumbled textures instead. This also happens on water if you are close, but the effect goes back to normal when far away. I have an RTX 2060 super, which definitely can be the issue. I even tried it with no resource packs and same thing kept happening. Edit: Also I now see that the stained glass does not show water when looking through it.

i have the issuse aswell , if theres a way to turn it back on i would like to know

Hmmm. I watched a SEUS PTGI vid on you tube and the leaves/grass weren't animated in the vid either. I'm just wondering if its something that hasn't been implemented in the shader yet. I looked back through documentation for PTGI as best I could but didn't see any mention of this. That doesn't mean I didn't miss it though. I'm wondering if it works for anybody.
Andrew Hartmetz
I'm having the same issues. No movement at all for trees or grass.
Ph0enixMind
Anybody have issues where the grass/leaves are not animated with PTGI. I've tried other shaders and the grass/leaves ARE animated. I've tried using E10 and E9. I've also tried other resource packs but none give the moving grass/leaves. I have a RTX 2070 card. Any help would be appreciated.

Can anyone point me to best settings for Minecraft using RTX2080ti and Asus PG27U 4K/144mhz monitor? Thanks in Advance.

Love this version! Wanted to report that it's running well on an AMD Vega 56, getting average 50 FPS (around water and reflective surfaces) with all ray tracing settings on ultra and things look great (except some disco floor issues as already discussed, and no character reflection). Had to drop to 1366x768 and use Radeon Image Sharpening to get that performance though. Worst was 1080P with high render distance averaging 18 FPS.

Hi there, I wanna report a compatibility issue with Valkyrien Skies mod. All light sources don't work on their ship(a physics entity) except torch. There is no such issue for other shader packs. Would you take a look at Valkyrien Skies source code and check what' going on? here's the source code link: https://github.com/ValkyrienSkies/Valkyrien-Skies

HELLO I have an rtx 2080 graphic and I have an OpenGL problem. Could you help me out all super black and also test with a version 1.12 and what comes out are some colored boxes on my screen that do not show well when playing.

me too OpenGL 1282 T^T fishing
Gary Williams
I am getting an OpenGL invalid operation 1282 while fishing. Not sure what it is, but FPS drops to 15. Does not crash the game, just slows everything down. Error pops up when I cast, may pop up once or twice more until I catch something. Get done fishing, FPS is back up to ~37. Not great, but better than E9. I am using Optifine instead of Forge. I'll try it with Forge and see if that error goes away.
that would be driver issues, I was having the same thing, use DDU and then reinstall the drivers.\

Ryzen 3900K, Asus strix gtx 1080, 16gb 3200mhz. I get a stable 70-80fps with a 512x512 texture pack So I don't think its a compatibility thing with amd if your talking about your cpu.

Also the black sky while underwater is definitely still a thing.

anyone know of a texture pack that doesn't change much from the vanilla look of minecraft but improves the game and has the iron block reflection.

I would love to be able to completely remove the realistic clouds from the sky, to use the blocky ones from Minecraft over a clean blue sky.
Erhan Burger
Hey mate, I love your work. I'm still getting flickering shadows in caves etc. Is there a setting I can change to fix this?
Dominick
Recommended settings? Get 27-30 fps on a vega 56 at the defaults at 1080p.
Chahzou
You don't need to extract it.

I got an "OpenGL Error: 1282 (Invalid operation)" while fishing and the string disappeared.

idk what yallre on but with a 1060 6gb at 720p I can play this at 50-60 like are you folks that reluctant to lower resolution??
Craig Sneed
I have a 2080ti and am barely pushing 20fps. I can't find any solution to improve this. I removed my textures and only rose a few fps. Not enough to justify the removal.

The shader does not show up for me. It is in my shaderpack file and I clicked extract all, but it still doesn't show up. What do I do?

im running a gtx 960M, with some basic screen resolution changes i got it running at around 40 - 50 fps with full raytracing on, somehow that card can also handle the htc vive so it might be kinda special 😂

How do activate the reflection of the blocks?
Let's Play Charities
I got it running stable on a beta version of OptiFine 1.12.2 but I have to run reflection tracing on low diffuse gi tracing on low and gi filter on low but it's working and that's with full Ray tracing on screen-space reflections and gi on also and it's Ray tracing so it can be done just need a current beta version of OptiFine to do this if you have a RX card and more current version of forge if you're running mods I'm testing it on our pixelmon server and it looks fantastic with resource packs also
Heiden Shadows
E10 doesn't seem to be running any worse than E9 and E9 Geometry Test. Still runs like butt on Vega 56, but with Freesync, still pretty playable.
Heiden Shadows
I'm only playing on 1.14.4, as AMD compatibility is only supported in 1.14.4+ for now.
afdsa
How many frames does the rtx 2070 super work?
Let's Play Charities
Andrew Hunt can you get yours to run on 1.12.2 because I can't and im using a Vega 56 also and can only get it to run on 1.14.4 and i have to use like e3 or e4 to even get it to run then but even then the rivers, lakes and oceans have no water just bubbles and when you jump in the water is when you can see it then
Matt Coffin
There are some, but targeting the server compute market from a while back. They are, however, working on a new project in that space. This post, however, likely refers to intel's integrated graphics line.
Matt Coffin
Dang. On my 5700 XT, while E9 only had a big shadow bug when outside, E10 makes EVERYTHING have the water paralax mapping. Bummer about the AMD support. Are people on GCN still thinking that this works for them? EDIT: Ahh bummer. I came here from the youtube videos advertising this, but it looks like AMD is getting un-supported by the move back to geometry shaders for the time being. Unfortunate. I guess I'm shit out of luck haha EDIT2: I've actually done some GPU compiler work on the LLVM backend for NAVI and some driver work on the AMDVLK side for their fvulkan driver, so if you need any help working on supporting the 5700XT AMD cards, then let me know and I'd be happy to lend a hand.
Heiden Shadows
Cool time to make my Vega 56 hurt some more in the coming month.

Ultra-wide issue, anything above 1080p 16:9 isn't supported. I get those artifacts with 2560x1080 and 3440x1440.

Any word on when the other light sources will be added? Sea pickles and end rods are the biggest omission I'm aware of.

There are intel GPU's? Like those from Nvidia and AMD or does that apply to those Intel inside graphics?

Hey still having an issue with fullscreen (I am using 3 monitors at 5760 × 1080 ) I get the disco floor but when i resize to 1920 X 1080 it goes normal any size above this it discos out. And the option in options to help fix this doesn't do anything. Also I'm using a gtx 1080
Molly Dreemurr
surprisingly, it works on intel (with the exeption of torches), you maybe don't plan for it, but it works, so, thanks

The download link currently does not work (for me at least).

Thanks a lot, at first sight the shader works for me with 1.12.2 and OptiFine 1.12.2 HD U F4 pre3 :-)
