The tank game was Battle City. I had fond memories of playing that game with my cousins. You'll get really powerful when you get lots of the star powerups. I also like to occasionally troll by destroying our own base just like you did.

I believe I saw a gamer historian episode about that Russian waterpipe game. Well maybe it was the episode about Tetris talking about the difficulties of getting your game developed in mother Russia during the Cold War. It was a fascinating episode and they talk about Taito and Tengen

Oh, I know that tank game! For at least the past decade, my grandparents (who are in their eighties) would sit in front of the TV almost every afternoon and play the co-op together, and Grandma would sometimes even start trash talking. I believe the non-bootleg version is called Battle City and came out for the NES in 1985.
