Asgore had been through the incredibly spartan training that monster warriors back during the war, and he had trained every one of the royal guards personally— Undyne was a testament to his skill in this regard, but for him, it had never been about his personal skill. He knew he was good, but after all he went through, it was a part of his life he wanted to leave behind. Now, he was back— amongst the sweating and the grunting, the aggressive clanking of metal, it was everything his little flower garden wasn't. The goat shifted his weight uncomfortably when he first looked around, at all the burly, musclebound people, and unsure what they would think of him. All he could really do was just buckle down and get to work, and hope none of the other gymgoers wanted to start something.
"Yo, dude— Just wanna say, those horns are hella metal."
Asgore blinked at the comment. "Uh… thank you?"
"Goat man, great form on those squats! You're killing it!"
"Holy shit, are you really pulling off those curls with hundred pound dumbbells? My man!"
"Golly…" Asgore had not been expecting such a friendly and welcoming atmosphere, but just like one of his marigolds, a little extra sunshine made him bloom. And oh, how he bloomed— at first, Asgore thought he would hate working out again, but it seemed to be a great release for all of the anxiety and nervous energy he had been building up ever since moving onto the surface. Apparently all that energy could be converted into new brawn; his already thick and sturdy build, gone somewhat soft from all those years squirrelled away under the mountain, came roaring back to life— the workouts supercharged his muscles, swelling up his chest and arms. His back and shoulders widened into broad, wall-like masses, and his legs became shapely, trunk-thick masses. He felt the girth pile on him, the strength building up— and Asgore had to admit, he was starting to like what he saw in the mirror as he tugged on an already too tight shirt, just to get a look at his bare chest.
The goat grinned, taking in a deep breath— even if his torso was a little too thick, those abs stubbornly hiding over the last bit of undeveloped fat, he was on his way— time to sign up for a proper bodybuilding competition.
