The TANKER BUG!
Will you run? Or stand and fight?
The fully poseable, multi-part Tanker Bug model is HUGE - measuring 130mm long it is bigger than many heroic scale Tank kits, so the name is entirely appropriate!
We've hollowed the head and main body, so an entire printed bug weighs less than 75 grams (+a bit extra for supports) - so it is reasonably inexpensive to print.

Assembly and Posing Notes
The legs are in three parts with a good range of motion at each joint. You can get further range if you trim material at the joints or ball sockets as required.
We suggest at least two feet on each side be glued flat touching the ground - particularly the rear feet to ensure the centre of balance is sufficiently far forward to prevent the model tipping over - you can glue coins or similar in the body or head if you want to change the centre of gravity.
To ensure flat feet - glue two legs onto the body, then glue those two feet on at the same time, with the feet flat on the table - then glue on additional legs, dry fitting to get good ground contact.
After you have assembled the legs you may wish to use Green Stuff, liquid putty or similar to fill the gaps for a more natural look.
The body is shaped to make a large ball socket, allowing the head to rotate a little in every direction.
The Jaw can be posed open or closed - however, if the desired jaw position is very open - you will need to remove some material from the back of the jaw to fit it to the ball socket body - the jaw is thinned at the back to make this easier.
We advise the following build/paint order.
- Glue the Mandibles into the upper ball sockets on each side, inside the mouth - indicated with the ORANGE line.
- Glue the head to the body in your desired pose - as with the legs you may wish to fill some internal gaps with putty.
- Trim the back of the lower jaw if needed - dry fit to test but do not glue.
- Paint the model - painting the inside of the hollow body matt black will make the inner maw look best. Have fun with all kinds of washes, inks, drybrushing and stippling techniques to make a unique carapace!
- Glue the lower jaw in place - indicated with the GREEN line.
As with any larger model, plenty of dry fitting before applying any glue will help ensure you find the optimum pose!

The body shell is approx 2mm thick I think, so a 40% scale down should print ok without any changes to the pre-supports (we've not tested it). Any smaller and it should still print but new supports would be advisable, keeping the existing print angles.

Any thoughts on how much we might be able shrink the bugs down and still have them print ok? I think after a big one I might be tempted to try a couple of smaller ones too
