Angelica said, “It’s working. The bar is filling up.” She looked up and stared at Tim.
Tim waited nervously, paying close attention to his body, trying to sense the first signs of any changes.
“How do you feel?” she asked, smiling.
“Fine,” he said. “I don’t really feel any different, yet.” His voice cracked as he spoke that last word. He cleared his throat.
She chuckled.
“What?” he asked, his voice cracking awkwardly again. He coughed. “What’d you do to me?” he croaked.
She did not respond, just kept on grinning and intently observing him. The answer soon became apparent, though, as he felt his body getting shorter and slimmer.
“I’m getting younger?” he said, his voice sounding unmistakably childish now.
Tim wished he could see his face in a mirror. He wanted to see what Angelica was seeing. He held up his hands, the only part of him could watch as he dropped backwards into prepubescence. They softened, becoming smoother and gentler. Below, his legs shortened to the point that his feet lifted off the ground. His shoes hung loosely from him, as did the rest of his clothes.
“How young?” he asked with a voice so squeaky that he winced at the sound of it.
Again, she gave no response. There was no point. He would know soon enough.
When Tim’s shoes slipped off his diminishing feet, his socks still dangling from his toes, he began to grow concerned. While he enjoyed fantasizing about regressing, he was worried about becoming too young to do certain things. What if he became too young to walk? Too young to use a toilet? Too young to talk, even?
Just when he began to fear that he might disappear altogether, the regressing slowed to a halt. Tim looked up at Angelica, and was intimidated to see that she appeared to have almost doubled in size, her already enormous breasts looking like a pair of beach balls from his perspective. While he knew that she had not changed herself at all, he could not help but regard her as more mature now, at least compared to him.
“Aw,” she cooed down at him. “You look… adorable!”
Before he could respond, he was distracted by the sensation of his clothes slithering against his skin, shrinking and reshaping to match the size of his much smaller and younger body. Below, his shoes lept back onto his feet, molding themselves to fit them perfectly.
Then, the high-pitched whine started from the phone. It grew louder, signaling that the transformation was nearly complete. When it became deafeningly loud, a bright flash burst from the phone, and the world was blanked out for a moment as their eyes adjusted to the brief after image it left behind.
“Oh my god!” Angelica said, gazing down at him in wonder. “That was amazing! Look at you!”
Tim looked. He had become so disconcertingly small and weak. His little legs swung below, his toes not able to reach the ground. He tried to estimate his age, but it was hard to get a sense of how big he was as everything seemed overwhelmingly huge now. He guessed he was just old enough to be school-aged, but that might have been only wishful thinking.
“That was…” he squeaked and paused, searching for a diplomatic word so as not to appear ungrateful. “...unexpected.”
“Want to guess your age?” she asked.
“Eight?” he asked, wishing for it to be true.
“Six,” she corrected him.
“Oh!” he said, feeling even smaller now that he knew he had lost a whole decade of his life.
“How does it feel?”
Tim sensed that his future would be determined by how he answered her. He hesitated to speak, glancing at the powerful phone, clutched firmly in her hands. Those comparatively thicker fingers seemed worryingly bigger and stronger than his own. He doubted he could pry the phone from them, and even if he did, he knew that it would be difficult to hold and operate it with his feeble fingers. Clearly, he had little chance of using the app now unless she allowed it. With no hope of overpowering her, he would need to be persuasive.
“It’s unbelievable,” he said, trying to sound upbeat. “I can barely remember being this little.”
“Well,” she said, grinning even wider. “You’re not just littler. There’ve been some other changes made as well.”
“What… changes?” he asked, delicately.
What else has Angelica changed?
She turned him into a genius child prodigy.
She replaced his underwear with pullups.
She made him her little brother.
She altered his appearance beyond making him younger.
