Not to mention The Offspring where Lal was "born," walked around and interacted with the crew for awhile, and then chose her gender based on what she thought would appeal after experience with the world.

100% agree, it's the rare episode that hits even harder on a rewatch. You really start to feel for the residents earlier on in the story when you realize the doom they would come to see in their lifetimes.

I have to say, I fully expected the uprating of The Inner Light. It's an episode that stews with you. Rewatches hit harder than initial watches. It's an episode that would not have been my favorite the first time I sat down and watched the show, but now? It's up there with City on the Edge of Forever, and, well, not gonna say anymore to avoid spoilers.

The only thing about the S tier ranking decision that you guys have decided on is that, as you define in your rankings explanation, S is a rank reserved for an excellent episode that speaks personally to you so it seems odd that it would get rounded down. By definition, it's an excellent episode that has the added benefit of being personally meaningful to Alex or Josh so... rounding down seems a little odd?

I'd like to imagine that "Silicone Avatar" would have been about Data questioning his gender identity and trying to be a female for an episode, in the wake of the events in "The Outcast".

To me, Inner Light is alot like City on the Edge of Forever. My two most favorite episodes in ALL of Trek! Though Yesterday's Enterprise is there too. And one more that hasn't come up yet

It's a slow burn, meaning, it takes time to work into your psyche. We've all rewatched it so many times so we're already there, but I think most people on an initial watch don't have it at S-tier either.

I'd bump "First Duty" up to S. Of all the ones I've seen, I'd say it's the best episode in the entire series other than YE. "I, Borg " I can go no higher than a C because it is plot point writing that forces the characters to not make sense and be stupid just to move the plot along. It's watchable though.

This is a solid tier list! Mine would be pretty similar. The Inner Light is the episode I've seen the most times by far, and every time it hits me emotionally. Patrick Stewart is a gift to humanity and uplifts everything he's in. I'm so glad after sitting with it you agree that it's an S tier episode!
