There's a scene in the Blu-Ray edition where they forgot to re-add the original effects during the remaster. The effect was hiding Phillips head screws on a control panel that Riker touches that triggers a traumatic a memory. In the DVD version and original TV version, the screws aren't there.

I have to go B. It's a solid episode but I'm taken out of the story when the holodeck perfectly recreates an alien lab from generic descriptions.

A nice little tribute to whole alien abduction phenomena. With a great underlying sense of horror! Plus Data's great poem to Spot to Riker snoring off!

I think the first 3/4 of the episode is some of the most memorable (creepy) Trek of the series. The last 1/4? Riker being abducted is the worst special effect in the show's run. It's so comical it breaks all the tension that has been built. The aliens are underwhelming, and watching Geordi teching the tech to tech the tech to close the portal is about as exciting as sitting in a pool of mud.

There's only one tiny flaw in this episode for me, and it's when the holodeck makes the jump to metal table and adds like a whole footrest thing. I feel like there should have been one extra transition in there and then it would have been perfect. I love that scene though. It's so eerie as they start figuring things out.

I remember being freaked out by the holodeck scene on my first watch of TNG, I was more freaked out by that scene than the actual abduction scene.

For me the scariest bit would be to only be able to tell the holodeck verbally about what I want to see. Troi: Make a table. No, a bigger one. No, a wooden one. Computer: JFC, just select one from the table drop down menu on your screen, ok?
