This movie is peak "indie arthouse" horror. That sound design on the warbling voice on the session tapes... Nothing's ever been creepier than that voice. It's up there with Frank the Rabbit from Donnie Darko. "I live... in the weak... and the wounded." There are scenes of sustained and absolute terror, like the sequence down in the tunnels at night, but I love a horror movie that can give so much pleasure purely through MOOD. The setting, the premise, and that slow disintegration of sanity in the characters that matches the film itself slipping towards that final reveal. I love this one a lot. It may not be the flashiest horror film, but it achieves whatever it was setting out to achieve.

I saw this movie in the theater when it came out. That was enough!
