Tutorial - Removing Walk-by from Worlds
🕑 Added 2020-02-14 08:27:08 +0000 UTCI hate them. I hate Walk-by with a passion, and there are some areas where I hate them even more. As a first thing, I hate seeing Sims from Oasis Spring walking around in Willow Creek like if nothing (and I'm looking for an easy way to edit this behaviour of the game, too), as a second thing, there are places where I hate seeing people around, like the Granite Falls Forest. Now, I was making this mod for myself, since I'm sick of dealing with walk-by when I write my comic, but I got a message asking me how to add the Magic World to the Vampires Gated Community mod, and the concept is the same (besides, I already have the mod to restrict Glimmerbrook to Spellcasters only if someone wants it, it's another mod I use to write)... also, it's a very easy mod to do so I figured out to do a quick tutorial on how to nuke Walk-by from the worlds.
What we're looking for is the Walk-by director for the various world, if you have the XMLs extracted in your PC, just move inside the folder of the EP\GP the world you want to edit belongs to, like in my case, it's GP01, and look for the walk_by folder:
The XMLs I need to edit are these, so I'm going to make a new package with these XMLs inside. Now, if you look at the tuning, you'll see a list of situations like these:
This tells us that in this zone, at a certain hours, the desired walk-by count is two, and the situations that are going to be weighted to choose the said walk-by are the ones listed. I don't care much, because for what I want to get, I'm just going to replace every single situation with situation_walkby_nobody (notice that setting the desired_sim_count to 0 has the same result, straight up deleting the situations have the same result, too... I do like this in case I want to edit this mod later)
I'll do this for every situation across all the XML, simply replacing every situation with the walkby_nobody one.
And I'll do this for every walk-by director I'm interested into:
And, that's it. This is all a mod like the Vampire Gated Community is about. You can get creative and set the walk-by situation in various way depending on the effect you want to get.

Mh nope it's not related. You mean focusing like it focuses when a sim transforms into a vampire? That's a basic extra in the interaction, you need to know what interaction has the "focus camera" option enabled in this case
Not sure if this is related here, or where to ask this: How can I figure out how to make the camera stop focusing on other played household famous/celebrity sims when they spawn in the neighborhood?

You can find empty streets mod on the sims asylum forum. I'd like to restrict walk-by... But I'm yet not sure how to achieve it, maxis filters don't work so well.

The mod I'd like to make is to have walby only resident in the world... Or homeless. If you want empty streets, coolspear have it covered already!
Could you make a mod for it? I'm searching for something like this for months so I would kill to have this mod omfg
You mentioned that you were working on a mod to fix this for yourself and that you truly hate any kind of walk-bys. Does that mean that you might expand the glimmerbrook mod to all worlds?

YES! I wish going to other worlds was a bigger deal in game play. Like sims have to PAY to go to another world and/or have sims REACT to the different worlds. Once you complete the ones you're making for yourself will we be allowed to download them as well? :D

It keeps everyone from spawning apart from the neighbors, if you leave the neighbors situation... The other walk-by situations don't care where a sim reside. What I'm trying to achieve is keeping sims in their own town, but maxis tried to do the same and the filter they use (mind you, with Islanders for example, they're supposed to stay in sulani) is not perfect at all.

Does making this modification keep those from other neighborhoods spawning in your current neighborhood or is that the one you were trying to conquer? Like people from Sulani somehow traveling clear across the world just to walk around my boring neighborhood always seemed weird to me. Haha.

Also because it's a FORGOTTEN place up on a mountain in the middle of nothing judging from the scenario around it.

Wow! I didn't know about the vampire gated community mod!!! Going to download now!!! I hated seeing all those human sims just chilling in a creepy vampire world for no reason lol 😎

I would love the glimmerbrook mod!!! Also I am so interested in restricting the sims to their native worlds! So annoying!
