Wondrous Item (Hat), Artifact, Requires Attunement by a Spellcaster
“Once your typical Hat of Wizardry, this hat was owned by the original Archmage of the Academy. Over decades of wearing this hat, it became suffused and empowered by his magics, creating something much more powerful. It is now handed down to each Archmage of the Academy when they ascend to the position. “
While wearing this hat, you may use it as a spell focus. In addition, while wearing the hat you gain a +2 to your Spell Attack Bonus and Spell Save DC.
Preternatural Preparations. This hat stores spells cast into it, holding them until the attuned wearer uses them. The hat can store up to 7 levels worth of spells at a time.
Any creature can cast a spell of 1st through 7th level into the hat by touching the hat as the spell is cast. The spell has no effect, other than to be stored in the hat. If the hat can't hold the spell, the spell is expended without effect. The level of the slot used to cast the spell determines how much space it uses.
While wearing this hat, you can cast any spell stored in it as a Bonus Action. The spell uses the slot level, spell save DC, spell attack bonus, and spellcasting ability of the original caster, but is otherwise treated as if you cast the spell. The spell cast from the hat is no longer stored in it, freeing up space.
Master of Mysticism. While wearing this hat, you can attempt to cast a Cantrip or a 1st or 2nd level spell that you don't know. The cantrip or spell must be on your spell list, and you must make an Intelligence (Arcana) check to cast it. The DC to cast a Cantrip is 10, 1st level spell is 15, and 2nd level spell is 20.
If the check succeeds, you cast the spell. If the check fails, so does the spell, and the action used to cast the spell is wasted, as is one use of the ability. You can use this feature a number of times equal to your proficiency modifier and regain all uses on a long rest.
Arcane Echoes. It is said that each owner of the hat imbues the hat with some piece of themself. This amalgam of thought and memory is always at the wearer’s fingertips. When making an Intelligence check to recall knowledge of a specific topic, you may make the roll with advantage, as you search not only your own knowledge but that of the Archmages who came before you.
