I finally had a chance to sit down and finish this. Loved your reaction! It’s definitely the humor and chemistry between Newman & Redford that does it for me. Katharine Ross was great too. It’s amazing to realize Paul Newman and Robert Redford made only two movies together - this and then The Sting - because I think many of us consider them the greatest buddy-movie duo of all time. They became lifelong friends as I recall. I remember reading now and then about elaborate pranks they played on one another. Who’d have thought the bad guys could conjure up so much affection in the audience?

So many great elements to this classic movie, which you pointed out Sal. I'll emphasize the cinematography - amazing composition of shots throughout. The cinematographer is one of the most celebrated in film history (Conrad Hall) and won 1 of his 3 Oscars for this film.
