Status update: "Shit, meet Fan."
🕑 Added 2020-07-20 17:57:55 +0000 UTCSo, many of you will probably notice (or not) that I've been even less consistent than usual the past 3 months. Things haven't been great for my mental health, and is likely to get worse before it gets better.
At first it was just a feeling of burnout after finishing Belated Gift and a feeling of refusal for anything comic. I'd worked through much of that and got a chunk of my mojo back.
Then it was mutually and conclusively ending an on-again off-again relationship. This affected me a lot more than Id expected, on top of the general state of the planet right now, but I was starting to get back to feeling capable again.
And then I get a call from my mom saying that we needed to talk, and those words never mean good things. She's been fighting breast cancer for the past nearly 2+ years, and after a relapse, was feeling a little strange so got another brain CT a year after the last one. Now there's a 6cm brain tumor that has remarkably gone unnoticed and largely unaffecting her functionally to the doctor's surprise, as well as a scattering of 9-12 other specks.
Suffice to say, things don't look good. Had an emergency family gathering to keep everyone up to date, with the takeaway being that she's going to try a hail-mary of direct radiation treatments to the large tumor, but with an estimated couple of months left, to be prepared for the inevitable. There was an intense thunderstorm the minute everyone arrived, even knocking out the power shortly after.
I've never seen such pathos. Truly a sick cosmic joke.
I'm going to be spending as much remaining time as I feasibly can with her until then, and this will undoubtably affect my work, but I'm going to try.

Shit being you right now. But hey ! Try to see the silver lining in things to stay positive. Yes it sucks that bad stuff happens in your live, griev, cry, but then get back up again and move forward again ! You can do it , i belive in you !

I can only echo what other people have said better, but even so: This is awful news. I hope your mum is able to pull through, and that you get as much time with her as humanly possible. The art can wait until you're good and ready to deal with it; this kind of confluence of horribleness would be a blow to anyone. Be well, stay strong, and don't hesitate to lean on family and friends for support if you need to.

This is terrible to hear :< Go. Be with her. God knows there are a number of family members I wished I could have spent more time with in their final days; NO ONE should be deprived of that time, for any reason.

Honestly, whatever the circumstance may be, this can wait. I don't speak for anyone here but, I for one can wait as much as you deem necessary as real life always takes priority. That includes how you feel. No need to push yourself to do something that might stress you more than you already are and, by the sound of it, it doesn't even categorize as the sickest of jokes. Been there, done that, not easy. I shall be praying for this. The best of luck and wishes to you and your family.
