As a queer woman and an adult writer, I think it will be obvious that I am extremely dismayed with the results of the US election to put it mildly. I have little faith in the Democrats to do anything ever besides fund raise off tragedy, but I always have faith that the Republicans will swiftly and eagerly do everything they can to brutalize our most vulnerable neighbors as they always have when they have power. I am furious and ashamed that we are here now, and terrified for what the future will bring.
Trump and the Republicans have made it abundantly clear that they intend to make life infinitely harder for most Americans and that criminalizing and suppressing adult content is one of their priorities. Creating adult art is already pretty hard when Amazon and Patreon are so hostile to anything not squeaky clean and I expect that over the next four years (and only four years, if we're lucky) it will only become harder. I don't know what to expect. Erotic writing is generally further down the list of Republican targets than erotic art or film, primarily because I don't believe Republicans do much reading, but it's foolish to believe that they won't attempt to quash that as well.
I think statements of solidarity are largely meaningless and only serve to assuage my own bad feelings, but I will still make one if for no other reason than to make it clear that I stand firmly on the side of my trans brothers and sisters, the queer community in general, adult artists and sex workers, immigrants, the disabled, and anyone else who's in the crosshairs of these psychotic prudes and glass-chewing freaks. But talk is cheap. In the next few years, I expect that many of us will have to make some difficult choices. You may find you have to sacrifice your own comfort or convenience to do the right thing, and, for us Americans, I know that is a supremely difficult thing to do. We cannot count on our leaders saving us now, so it will be up to us to help each other in the darkest hours. Take care of yourselves out there!
As the Amazing Criswell said in that classic science fiction film Plan 9 from Outer Space, God help us in the future!

Heartbreaking, Elon Musk and his austerity freaks are going to cut the Americans with Disabilities Act to prevent fatties like Jen and Alice from getting free mobility scooters I joke of course, because unfortunately, humour feels like the only thing that soothes the pain in times like this. I can't imagine what it's like going through this yourself as a queer woman in America. I'm a guy from across the globe and even I can't stand the thought of you guys going through it, and hate the fact our own dumbass government seems set to continue following Trump in the name of an "alliance" that harms us more than helps us these days. My only bit of advice in this trying time is, as always, to keep an eye on boosting privacy/internet security and the like. I'm not exactly a cyber-wizard myself, and privacy might get harder if the Opus Dei freaks at SCOTUS scrap the right to privacy, but, on top of the other benefits privacy delivers, it'll make these reactionary freaks have to work a hell of a lot harder to target you. This does unfortunately seem to be a trend in the anglosphere though atm, and while Trump himself might be the most venomous form of this trend, it seems like a lot of your English-reading audience will be going through experiences like this come a little wile. Let's just hope we learn from the American resistance to Trump (or at the very least, not from the fucking Democrats man)

Been thinking of you this last week Molly. As a (partial) outsider to this, I suspect any reassurance I could give would be pitiful, but I will say that if the evangelical camp of the Trump cult do come for porn, they might find more oppo closer to home than they think. At least if my encounter with a Trump-supporting Christian fat fetishist back in the summer is indicative of anything. (Long story short, we very quickly fell out, albeit for reasons that had little to do with politics or religion, and I've tried to forget about it, though it was an eye opener in some ways and a major reason I wasn't at all surprised by the result last week.) Trumpism is the political equivalent of the acid blood in Alien. All we can do is hope not to get any on us and the people and things we love.
