Oh got you! Dang by the sounds of it then Pretty Derby isn't as intense racing as CinGray I'm guessing. Aww man I was hoping for more intense moments like this show. But I'm sure itll be a fun ride too

0:58 In real life, this was 1987. That calendar is just a nod to that. In-universe it is in the modern day as like you mentioned there are smart phones. 35:29 Not necessarily. They parade them around, but the concert (Winning Live) is more so a nod back to the Pretty Derby series. Those 3 seasons were more of a slice of life/idol anime with racing elements. CinGray is a prequel to all of the other shows, both in-universe and real life timeline wise.

Wooow thank you I gotta write that second part down, I wasn't sure what range is short range vs long range in horse races. Omg if these races actually get 2500+ that's gonna be a whole episode race lol

You nailed it at the end there - no truly competitive athelete wants to intentionally lose a race, its a terrible feeling and Kitahara's condition is a bad call, albeit it came from an understandable place and makes for good plot drama. Also separately in the world of umamusume, anything below 1200m is considered a sprint, 1600m-2400m is generally considered a medium distance race, and 2500m onwards is considered a long distance race!
