“What can I get you today, sir?” A tall woman in a frilly black and white maid’s uniform asked me, just as formally as always. Her shiny chestnut hair was styled into a short, straight bob, topped off with a maid’s headband that featured false kitty ears.
“The usual please, Nicole.“ I forced a smile for my friend, who was currently on duty in the local maid cafe: Frills and Spills.
“If I may ask, what has you down, sir?” Nicole asked with genuine concern.
“I’m going to miss this place…”
“Oh! Mister Kiran! I have delightful news!” Nicole beamed. “As of this morning, Frills and Spills has a new owner!”
My face must have lit up, because hers did too at my reaction. “So it’s not shutting down!?”
“That is correct, sir! However, beginning tomorrow, Frills and Spills will be closed for renovations for one week.”
“Renovations?” I looked around at the bubbly, welcoming cafe. Elegant furnishings filled the vibrant room full of pinks and violets. The condition of everything from seats to cash registers looked no less than pristine. “Are the renovations for the kitchen or something?”
“I do not know, sir. My apologies.”
With that, Nicole strutted off to get me my order, leaving me to ponder the future of my favourite establishment…

Exactly one week later, I was eagerly on my way back to Frills and Spills. However, once the cafe came into view, it looked totally different than how it did just a week prior: the building’s exterior was painted red and white, almost like that of a stereotypical barn, and a new sign reading “Cowgirl Cafe” took the place of the old one.
“What!?” My mind raced faster than my legs as I rushed to where my favourite establishment once called home.
A promo board was stood up by the front door which read ‘Formerly Frills and Spills, now refreshed as Cowgirl Cafe! Same great menu, now expanded with even moore to love!’
I entered the cafe to find a radically different interior than the one I knew and loved: the walls were painted with blue skies and cactus-dotted pastures; the wooden tables and booths were reminiscent of the wild west; the kitchen was separated from the dining area by a set of swingy saloon doors; and a merch stall stood next to the registers. But worst of all, the employee uniforms had changed to a western theme as well! Most of the staff were wearing jeans, tight red tee shirts, and a cowprint vest overtop. Some wore cowboy hats with horns sticking out, while others wore their horns on simple headbands.
My jaw was slack as I stood in the doorway, frozen in horror.
“Excuse me.” A guy said to me, looking to leave. He was wearing a red baseball cap with the Cowgirl Cafe logo embroidered to it. He looked rather excited, possibly for the rebranding. His soft chinstrap beard and short black hair were glowing in the low morning sun breaching in the windows.
I stumbled aside to let him pass me, where I stood for who knows how long. I could do nothing but gape in awe and disappointment.
“Howdy, Kiran!” A familiar voice shook me out of my daze. Nicole was standing before me wearing the same outfit as the rest of the staff. She was one of the people wearing their horns as a headband, and she had a name tag that labelled her as “Nicky”.
“Nicole, what the fuck is happening!? And since when have you let anyone call you Nicky!?” I pointed to her name tag.
“Yeah, I am not happy about that. Er, ‘I ain’t happy ‘bout that.’ The new owner wants everyone to have nicknames that fit the theme…” Her expression momentarily dipped to one of indifference, then returned to a chipper demeanor. She was on the clock, after all. “Can I get y’all a seat today?”
“Uh… No thanks, Nicole. I’ll be back soon, but for now I think I’ll be off.” I waved goodbye to my friend and let her return to work.

A few days later, I returned to Cowgirl Cafe with a more positive outlook. I was glad Nicole wasn’t out of a job - and besides, I thought, ‘times will change’. The kitchen staff and menu hadn’t been overhauled, so the food would still be nice at least, even if the vibe was completely different now. And of course, it was always good to catch Nicole wherever I could - her schedule made it difficult for us to hang out together very often.
I found a seat and decided to take another look around while I waited to be served. My eyes always managed to wander back to the vibrant wall of merch at the front of the room. Dozens of tee shirts, sweaters, baseball caps, cowboy hats, and socks were on display, all of which featured the Cowgirl Cafe logo in some way. It struck me as a bit odd that a cafe had so much branded merch featured so prominently, but I just waved it off as the new owner squeezing every penny out of their purchase…
“Howdy, Kiran!” Nicole greeted cheerily, pulling me out of my thoughts. “What can I get y’all today?”
She had a wide, almost eerie smile on her face, and her voice was filled with what could have been mistaken for sincere joy. I’d never seen Nicole this excited when she worked as a maid, and that was a role she actually enjoyed playing!
“Uhh, the usual please, Nicole.”
“Hee hee, no need for formalities, darlin’, just call me Nicky!” She winked at me playfully.
“What!? Nicole, I thought you hated that nickname!”
“What’re you talking ‘bout? That’s just my name, darlin’!”
My heart sank. Something felt very wrong here. I took a deep breath and tried to calm my nerves. “Just the other day, you told me the new owner made you use that nickname, and that you hated it. Today, you say it’s just your name?”
“Always has been! Now, I’ll go round up your order for ya!” With that, she wandered off back to the kitchen.
As of that moment, my attempt to try out the new and ‘improved’ cafe in good faith ended abruptly. My friend had changed - no, she’d been changed - and I knew I had to get to the bottom of this.

The very next day, I returned to Cowgirl Cafe. I wore a shirt with a pocket which I used with my phone to stealthily record my visit.
The cafe was surprisingly busy for a Friday morning. While I waited for Nicole, I spotted the guy with the chinstrap beard from earlier in the week - except he seemed to have shaved it off since then. He was perusing the various articles of clothing with a cup of some hot beverage in-hand.
As it turned out, there were a number of customers looking at the merch section - almost as many as were seated at the various tables! But before I could ponder any more, Nicole had made her way over to me.
“Howdy, darlin’! What can I do ya for?” She had the same eerie grin as she had yesterday. However, what caught my attention the most were a pair of very noticeable wet spots on the breast of her shirt right over her nipples.
“Uhhh…” I quickly inspected the rest of her body, and noticed she was going around barefoot.
“Hee hee hee! Like what ya see, darlin’? Don’t be shy, I have a sweet spot for you, Kiran~” She covered her mouth to giggle, her uncanny smile never faltering. “I’ll just get y’all the usual! Be right back, darlin’~”
When she whisked herself away again, I continued to look around the room. The next waitress he spotted also had a pair of damp spots on her shirt - and the next, and the next! However, I couldn’t make out if the two male employees were also seemingly lactating.
“Wait a minute…”
I casually left my seat and pretended to browse the merch section so I could get a closer look at the guy working the register. He wore a headband with thin antennae as opposed to horns, but that barely registered in my mind. Though it was perfectly dry, his bright red shirt was extra tight now, with a pair of round little bumps bulging on his chest.
“Is he… growing tits!?” I muttered to myself breathlessly.
I returned to my seat and waited for the other guy, who was on waiter duty, to pass by my table. He, too, had an antennae headband and a noticeable pair of breasts defined under his taut shirt. Beyond that, I recalled this one maintaining a consistent beard, which was now absent. He almost seemed shorter now, too…
“I suppose it’s possible they’re both trans… but what are the odds they’re both transitioning at the same rate at the same time, right when all this other stuff is happening…”
“Here ya go, darlin’!” Nicole snapped me out of my thoughts as she placed a light, fluffy waffle and sweet orange juice in front of me. “Y’all enjoy, now!”
“Thanks, Nico- er, Nicky…” I bit my tongue.
And as swiftly as she arrived, she was off again. All I could do at the moment was try to enjoy my meal.

Over the weekend, I scoured the internet for any leads I could find, but came up with absolutely nothing helpful. As it turned out, the closest I could find online were just a bunch of lewd cow fantasy stories…
On Monday, though, I hesitantly ventured back to the cafe. A part of me was scared of what I’d find, but I had to know what came next. I held my breath and stepped inside, and to my horror I was looking at the utterly impossible: all the waitresses had big ol’ udders, and their ‘feet’ were now hooves!
“This… This isn’t real…” My mind leapt to the stories I’d read over the weekend, which suddenly felt less like fantasy and more like fact. I stumbled over to a booth and sat myself down before I lost my balance. I held my head and squeezed my eyes shut. “This isn’t real, this isn’t real, I’m not seeing this, this isn’t happening…”
“Howdy Darlin’!” Nicole’s chipper voice prompted me to lift my head.
There she was before me with her udder exposed for all to see. Her jeans seemed to have been refitted such that they allowed for her soft new bovine feature to hang free. I glanced down, and sure enough, her feet were naught but solid keratin. When I finally made eye contact with her, it was almost like I wasn’t seeing the same friend I’d known and loved: her eyes lacked the passion and fire they’d always had, replaced by an air of docility.
“Nicole, what the hell happened to you!?”
“Huh? What’re y’all on about? I’m feelin’ right as rain!”
Again I glanced down at her body, this time noticing that she again had a pair of wet spots on her shirt… and that her breasts were noticeably larger than they’d ever been before.
“Nicole, please, look at yourself! You have hooves and an udder!! Your body is being changed by someone or something, you have to see that!” I pleaded futilely.
“And what’s wrong with moo udder?”
“You just mooed!! You’re becoming a cow!”
“All I asked was what’s wrong with my udder… And c’mon Kiran, you know my name’s Nicky.”
The old Nicole would have chewed me out for calling her a cow, but this new one was simply confused. She didn’t seem to mind at all.
I hung my head, unable to meet her gaze again.
“Y’all just need somethin’ to eat. The usual’s coming right up darlin’, don’tchy’all worry!”
I heard her hooves clack away on the tiled floor. I actually heard many clacking hooves from the various waitresses. I focussed on them so hard that I didn’t notice how hard I was tugging on my own hair.
Then, I heard something else: an intermittent buzzing noise just next to me. I looked up to see one of the male employees serving the next table over, though he was a much less imposing height now. Moreover, he was even more feminine than before! His hips were wider, his ass was plumpier, and his chest was bustier; but it got worse.
The waiter had a pair of thin, transparent wings sticking out through openings in the back of his shirt! Every now and then, they’d twitch and buzz! Plus, he had an unusual lump under each arm that was clearly outlined by his tight top. I figured that, going with the insect theme, they were possibly a second set of arms!
When he walked away, I leaned over to the customer he’d just been serving. “Hey, excuse me. Have you noticed anything… odd about this place lately?”
“Well, the theme is certainly unique.” The person replied.
“But like… didn’t that guy seem off to you?”
I thought she was really pretty~” They bit their lip, looking away to steal another glance at the former man.
“I… ok, but like, he- er, she had wings! She looked nothing like that just last week! Everyone’s changing!!”
“Well, they’re obviously still getting the hang of it, but I like their costumes so far! They’re getting better by the day!” The customer said. “And her prosthetic bee wings are just adorable~”
I leaned back in my chair, dazed and astounded. How could anyone find this normal!? I sat there all day, pondering and observing, hoping to wake up from this nightmare.

Later that evening, I was still at Cowgirl Cafe waiting for Nicole to get off her shift. Eventually, she headed home and I decided to walk with her.
“Nicky, we need to talk.”
“Kiran! Well if it ain’t our best customer! I saw y’all couldn’t get enough of us today~” It was as if her accent had been permanently altered to one fit for the wild west.
“Nicky, have you noticed- no, fuck it! Nicole, you’re being rewritten! You’re hardly you anymore! Your body and your mannerisms, even your mind has changed!” I began pleading desperately. “You have to resign! Get out while you can, please! I can help you fix this!”
“Fix what? I’m fine, Kiran! Promise!”
“You have an udder!!” I shrieked exasperatedly.
“C’mon darlin, you’ve never thought twice ‘bout my udder before. Oh, I know! How ‘bout you gimme a squeeze, just like old times~” the bovine woman sultrily stroked one of her exposed teats with a coy smirk on her face. “Mmm, m-moo…”
After taking a moment to overcome my shock, I decided to take her up on the offer. I had to know… Hesitantly, I gently grasped one of my friend’s teats. It was warm, it was soft, and I could faintly feel her pulse: it was certainly a real part of her body.
I swung my hand over my gaping mouth, trying desperately to hide my visceral shock. A part of me had held on to the grain of hope that this wasn’t truly happening, but it was really real.
“Aww, what’s that matter darlin’? Cow got your tongue?~” She winked playfully. “Well, if you’re gonna leave a gal hangin’, I s’pose I’ll have to have all the fun myself~” Nicole began to stroke her teats with both hands as if they were cocks! Wet spots again formed on her shirt as she began to lactate from her breasts and her udder. A slow trickle of milk dripped from her teats and splattered on the ground below. “Mmmoooooo…”
I ran. My feet carried me home before I could stop and think. I rushed inside my apartment, hopped in bed, and hoped tomorrow would show me a path forward.

I couldn’t bring myself to visit the cafe again the next morning, but it was still the only thing I could think of all day. After work, I decided to stop by Nicole’s home to apologise for running off, and to hopefully make some progress in figuring out what the hell was going on.
When I got there, nobody seemed to be home. She didn’t come to the door, and my texts and phone calls went unanswered.
It was already 6:00 in the evening, so her shift had long since ended. There was a pit in my stomach gnawing away at me. I feared returning to the cafe, but it was all I could do at the moment.
When I got there, I marched right up to the counter to ask where Nicole was. I noticed in passing that the formerly-male cashier now had two complete sets of arms, jet-black eyes with no whites, and long blonde hair with black stripes! She was now a short-stack with gorgeous curves and small bee wings, but I pushed that out of my mind - I had to find Nicole!
“Is Nicky here? I’m her friend and I haven’t heard from her today, I’m concerned.”
“I don’t know… I could ask the manager for you though!’ Her voice was cutesy and feminine, if a bit gravelly (or would buzzy be a better term?) - definitely a change from her previous voice. Surprisingly though, she didn’t have the same southern drawl as the cowgirls.
The bee girl disappeared to a back room, only to reemerge a moment later with a centaur woman in tow! The centaur’s four hooved feet clipped and clopped as she strutted over to me, and her soft brown tail flicked from side to side with each step. Her horse half was completely naked, with her only visible clothing being her red tee shirt under a leather jacket, and cowboy hat.
“Greetin’s sweetheart! The name’s Becky, head farmer of our homely little ranch! How can I help y’all today?”
I shook my head in an attempt to focus myself, but there’s only so much weirdness a guy can handle all at once. “Nicky, is she still here? I’m her friend, and I’m worried about her.”
“Ahhh, y’all must be the one she’s sweet on!~” Becky twirled her long brown hair between her fingers. “Don’tchy’all worry, sweetheart, she’s here safe. I can take y’all back to her quarters if you’d like.”
Ignoring the bit about ‘her quarters’, I steadied my resolve and took a deep breath. “Yes please.”
The equine woman led me into a long hallway behind closed doors. The cafe ambience faded away, leaving me with just the sound of clopping hooves… and faint mooing from up ahead. I wondered how such a long corridor fit inside the cafe building, and once I saw the room at the end of the line, came to the conclusion the new owner must also have bought the commercial units next door too.
I had just walked into a barn. Cowgirls were lounging throughout the room on piles of straw, cuddling with each other and mooing contentedly. They all had holstein cow print patterns on their legs, swishy cow tails, and flicking cow ears.
“Moo!!” A familiar voice spoke up. “Kiran! Boy am I glad to see y’all! It’s milking time!” Nicole wandered up to me and nuzzled me on the shoulder. She used to be taller than me, but now she was at a height where my shoulder was within ample headbutting range. Her little horns grazed against me, drawing attention to the fact they were no longer attached to a headband: they were real.
“Nicole, I was so worried! I stopped by your apartment tonight but you weren’t there!”
“Huh? What’re y’all talking about? I’ve been home all day.”
My heart sank again. “Nicole… Where is it that you live?”
“Kiran… Are y’all feelin’ ok? Y’all’ve been acting mighty strange lately.”
“Please… Please indulge me.” I held my breath.
“This here’s my home, Kiran. Y’all know that, right? I’ve always lived here.”
I closed my eyes and slowly exhaled. I figured the best I could do at the moment was to not make waves or worry my friend. Besides, now it was my turn to indulge her. “Right. Sorry, it’s been rough lately. You said it’s milking time?”
Her face lit up and her tail flicked excitedly. “Moo!”

I quit my job the very next day. I needed to investigate from the inside, so after I’d milked my best friend, I’d inquired about job openings with the manager. There were no openings at cowgirl cafe, but she told me the owner was opening another location in town soon and was hiring there.
That’s why I was now sitting through employee training at another Cowgirl Cafe on the other side of town. I’d been hired on the spot, suited up in an employee uniform, and given complimentary snacks - which I of course absolutely did not consume.
Unlike Nicole’s cafe, which featured cow and bee girls, this location was to feature cow and poultry girls. I was forced to wear a chicken comb, a white feathery tail, and a shirt with feathered sleeves. There were also a few turkey uniforms being worn among the chickens.
All I could do was be patient and roll with it. I couldn’t blow my cover being reckless.

Later in the week, our team had made it through basic trainin’ and were tasked with preparing the new cafe for opening. I was tasked with stocking the wall of merch with the same lineup of apparel as was available in our sister cafe, most of which were hats and shirts.
I was exhausted and my body was mighty sore, presumably from all the moving about lately. My nipples in particular were pretty tender, as well as my lower back and tailbone. It was always a relief to get home and drop the charade, and a part of me wanted to quit. I nonetheless pressed on, for Nicky’s- er, for Nicole’s sake.

After the weekend, it was our grand openin’. Our hard work paid off as our lil’ cafe got more than it’s fair share of customers.
I hadn’t been able to dig up any solid proof of nefarious deeds whatsoever. The other hens seemed find my investigation titillatin’, causin’ a ruckus whenever I’d bend over and inspect somethin’ or observe my own body for changes.
Bein’ intimately familiar with myself, I could conclude I hadn’t begun to change yet. My tiddies were as cute n’ round as ever, though they were still tender for some reason. My legs and back were thankfully startin’ to feel better now: I made sure none of my few lil’ tail feathers had been plucked, and promised I’d give myself some breaks from standin’ all day. My uniform’s shoes must have shrunk ‘cuz my feet just wouldn’t fit in them no more, so I had to go barefoot. All eight of my toes were stickin’ out, and my sharp nails clicked against the floor as I walked. I hoped management would find me better footwear soon.

“Wow, miss…” The customer glanced at my name tag, adjusting her long black hair under her Cowboy Cafe-branded hat. “Miss Kira! Your chicken harpie costume is so pretty!” She was the same person I’d bumped into over a month ago. She looked different though… Maybe she got a haircut or somethin’.
“Hee hee! Why, thanks darlin’! Now, what can I do ya for?” I replied cheerily, too self-conscious to tell her I wasn’t really wearing a costume.
“Just a black coffee please!”
“Comin’ right up, sweetheart~”
As I walked back to the kitchen, my mind wandered to Nicky. I was lookin’ forward to visiting her at her barn tonight, but there was still somethin’ eating away at me.
I quickly popped back to my quarters to look myself over in the mirror: I wasn’t wearin’ a headband now (farmer Pauline told me I didn’t have to wear one if it was agitatin’ my comb); my round face was starin’ back at me with an adorable - if I do say so myself - ear to ear grin; not a feather was ruffled on my arms or my tail; and my big, clawed harpie feet were as stunnin’ as ever. So why did somethin’ feel off?
I’d almost given up tryin’ to find changes in my body: it was pointless, nothin’d changed in the few weeks I’d been workin’ here. I didn’t even remember why I was concerned ‘bout that possibility. Still, Nicky was always in my thoughts. I had to protect my lil cow at all costs: that was why I got this job in the first place.
“Ah, Kira! You’re looking well~”
I turned to see the cafe’s owner pokin’ her head in to check up on me.
“Oh, hiya boss! Thank you boss! I’m sorry, I’m headin’ back out again now, I just had to fix myself up a bit.” I blushed from the weight of her gaze on my body.
“Don’t you worry, little hen~” The gorgeous woman in a sharp business suit lifted my chin to meet her frosty blue eyes. “I understand~”
