DOOM: Eternal Trivia & The Next Video & BONUS content
🕑 Added 2021-05-12 07:19:15 +0000 UTCHey all! I should've gotten my behind the scenes video done, but I felt as if the last video took a kind of toll on me, and I wanted to rest. From now on I'm going to try to cope with having time periods of over a month between video releases easier. The next video should be Genshin impact. I also notice I have many new subscribers, so I'm going to explain the process: I break down the "video trivia" by section, and I try to add context and paragraphs so that you understand what I'm talking about. That being said, you might need to watch the video again to see what I'm precisely discussing.
~~ Intro ~~
-I took an entire day creating the intro because of the heaps of research and experimentation I had to do to get Samuel Hayden, the Marauder, etc. voices working. Also, Vega. -The intro, as always, was agonizing to write. However, me sorting out all of my footage and being able to pick and choose the punchiest and most fun clips helped way more, significantly more than the Bloodborne intro.
-I considered cutting the autism joke but I literally just forgot that I have autism and that it's probably okay since our community is often very aware of our disability and open with our faults
-When I wrote the intro I was originally very uncomfortable with my narration and re-recorded most of it.
-I have begun presenting the disclaimer that my videos are entertainment and not genuine review because I feel like I need to spoil most games in order to make the jokes I want.
-When I say the line "So whether you're a psychopath - like me..." That is actual footage of me crawling towards my brother's camera sped up. We take very strange home videos.
~~ Gameplay ~~
-Most of the gifs that I present here are completely random. I'm lazier than you think I am.
-The GTA V footage I used is from my Max0r's Miscellaneous 2 video. Because god damn, I am never going to reinstall GTA just to make that joke, it's a waste of like 70 GB.
-All my footage of DOOM 2016's gameplay is from Polygon's 30 minute playthrough, and the man who was doing the gameplay seemed unable to both turn the camera and walk simultaneously.
-The part where I talk about the "arsenal" of the player character went through like 3 rewrites. Eventually I decided, as I often do, to just be nonsensical and go with my gut without thinking. This is why the "first shotgun" joke exists, it's me struggling to make jokes.
-I was originally going to talk about the "glory kill" mechanic but I realized for the most part that it wouldn't be very fun to talk about, just kind of technical, and that almost everyone watching would already know about it, so I made a funnier joke about killing and dogs in kindergartens.
-I say "I play invoker in dota 2" in this part, but I actually don't. I know how to play him, I just don't like him. If you want context, most heroes in Dota 2 have 4 abilities. Invoker has 10.
-When Billy Mays appears and I say the phrase "2 more buttons", I actually had to blur the text that I added on screen so that it looked about as blurry as the old infomercial did, that way it didn't stand out too much to the naked eye.
-The part where I explain The Crucible is so fast that I didn't add too many additional edits because the fast cutting was going to occupy most of your vision's capabilities. It's therefore, the simplest part of the video (In terms of editing)
-When I bring up my "Extensive list of 2 things" I actually had the names of the 2 super weapons written on a clipboard that I would slide into view of the camera. However, I slid it too fast and it fell into my kitchen. I just kept it in because that was funnier.
-The tweet that I show of the ATF celebrating national puppy day is real. This is ironic because, in the United States, law enforcement agencies and especially the ATF have a reputation for shooting dogs.
-My tirade about monkeys in new york city is a word for word copy of a tweet I made. I just felt like the viewer needed a break. Most of my decisions are random or are a product of my stream of consciousness.
-I have mentioned this before but the reason I take very long on the videos is because, for an 8 second segment of this video, I had to download snow halation, videos of electroboom shocking himself, and baboon footage.
-The "small blonde anime loli" that I show in this section is from a show called Seitokai no Ichizon.
-My tirade about the marauder is based off of a debate early in Doom: eternal's release in which many people complained about the marauder.
~~ Lore ~~
-I really enjoy sections like this because I get to push my strange perceptions of the video game onto you guys. For instance, no one made the connection of Maykrs = Moths before, because it's not totally sensible, but I just rolled with it and thought it was funny. It turns out, if you're consistent with being strange, people are willing to accept and laugh at it. Entertainment is fluid
-I imply in this section that the Doomslayer is Charles Manson.
-I really like PragerU jokes and I used Samuel Hayden a lot for that. I know I shouldn't, they're kinda politically memes, but I just like it too much. I don't let politics stop me from making the jokes I want, is my philosophy.
-This section also allows me to point out that the plot of Doom Eternal could be fixed by just... renewable energy existing.
-I spent a LOT of time photoshopping recreations of PragerU promotional images with just Samuel Hayden.
-Doom's plot is completely bonkers and the only thing I could do to give it justice is to just do what I wanted. Typically the first script I write is very structured, and it devolves from there like it's locked in an enclosure with a slobbering monkey.
-I manually tracked the entire "bungee chord" clip, which took me a lot of time. I also had to cover for the fact that it reached the edges of the image by having larger, blurrier versions of that image in the background.
~~ The Ancient Gods ~~
-This is the most rewritten part of the video. I would say 5 times or so, in total, depending on the section. I wanted to make a "lore section" for it, but realized explaining everything would be unfunny, but also longer than the lore of the base game. With that, I made the painful and inevitable decision to fling shit around instead of expecting the user to understand long explanations.
-All of the pictures of me typing about "ganyu" in the video are real and from my discord. we just had a day where we posted too many images of ganyu and i dipped headfirst into the meme.
-What I decided to do instead for the lore is just to tell you why things are but not tell you what's behind them or why that is. Why is Vega the father? I'm not concerned with that. Why is Satan also the Doomslayer? Same thing.
-By this point I was very done with explaining gameplay. I feel like I always want to talk about new things, and if I am forced to go over something again, I get extremely agitated and summarize it quickly. This is why my journey up to the boss of the first DLC was summarized so fast.
-The edit of the cutscene where the Doomslayer shoots at the Dark Lord was my favorite part to edit. It's simply fun to edit like a YouTube poop, and it takes a lot of pressure off of me, so I decided to do it again at a different part of this same section.
-The section where I describe all the places the Doomslayer goes is probably the most stark result of the rewrite. It's a great way to tell the viewer that time has passed while also describing new information. At this point, they understand the levels, and I've restricted myself to not explaining the plot too hard, so I needed some pacing before I fought the final boss of the DLC. This is also why I begin to talk about gameplay changes in the DLC, to make it seem like there is a buildup to the boss.
-For the Blood Maykr section I had to install Garry's Mod specifically for that shot and decided while I was at it I would subtly add a character standing in the background ominously.
-I don't even bother explaining the Sentinel Army.
-This is the video that truly made me better at creating fake voices and increasing my vocal range. I am particularly proud of the "Dark lord" voice because it sounds like an actual voice and the ways that it is pitch shifted down feel more subtle than most "internet voice changer" things.
~~ Music & Graphics ~~
-The mongolian throat singing joke was the first joke I thought of when I originally envisioned this video, and it helped convince me to do it.
-Mick Gordon actually was in the chat of a Virtual Youtuber. This Vtuber is Hana Macchia, whom I have actually had some light contact with... by accident.
-I also use a clip of a vtuber named Luna Magikarp... reacting to my Devil May Cry video. Apparently, she likes my content.

Just wanted to mention that your videos are always 100% hilarious through and through, and I've never once noticed a spot that I later learn was rewritten. "The first shotgun" joke, in particular, is exactly the slightly nonsensical but so-abrupt-it's-funny joke that I expect and love so much. Keep up the good work, I can't wait to see what you come up with next

fucking loved this video a ton, it got me back into playing doom eternal honestly after i dropped it to focus on school. thank you so much for all the hard work you put into your videos and patreon posts! i hope you enjoy the next few days off and i can’t wait for the next video!
