“I was never your sweet little girl,” Amanda said dismissively. “It’s always Jake needs this, Jake wants that with you. You only cared about how he was doing, and how I could help you take care of him.”
“Amanda I…”
“Whatever, I don’t care. I’m already packed.”
A long silence followed and the heat and pressure of Amanda’s crack drove me to the brink of unconsciousness. “That is… I… You should have talked with me! You should have let me help!” Mom struggled to defend her position and my heart sunk. And if I do call- you’re going to do whatever I tell you, won’t you?” Amanda paused for a long moment before shouting “WONT YOU?” The pressure on my eardrums forced a whine of pain from me and I nodded frantically to make her stop shouting. “That’s right, you’re gonna obey me no matter what,” Amanda’s voice became deathly soft, “Because you want this.”
Strange that such simple words held the power to fill me with despair. She knew. My soul was laid bare and there was nothing I could say to defend it. A whimper escaped my lips and I struggled to hold back a sob.
“Good,” Amanda said and sudden weightless was followed by a collision with a soft surface. The force of the impact set my bruised body aflame with agony. I moaned and curled into a ball, squeezing my eyes shut tight against the torment.
Amanda’s last words would haunt me for months, “Be seeing you, bro.”
