But you can from hair. Seems characters in games are characterized by their hair but not face, quite ironic. If you judge this by hair, you'll definitely be wrong. Those 2 faces above are the same.
BTW, I found the skin rendered in HS is not so bad as I originally imagine, but for a guy who likes to meddle with face textures, I definitely like PH skin better.
