🕑 Added 2025-06-10 18:11:32 +0000 UTC24 hours had passed since the Oscars, but the ripple effect hadn’t slowed down — if anything, it was gaining momentum.
Photos of Lucas and Jennifer stepping onto the red carpet had gone viral. In the image, the crowd stood behind the barricades, caught in a moment of stunned silence — unsure whether to cheer, gasp, or simply observe.
The now-iconic shot was taken by none other than Larry Busacca. His career, already established, skyrocketed overnight. But it wasn’t just the red carpet photo. The one that drew the most attention — the masterpiece — was Lucas alone on stage, the spotlight blazing down, as if the world had gone still just for him.
Online, the photos sparked a tidal wave of admiration.
“After those legendary shots of Michael Jordan, this might be the next cultural imprint. The red carpet pause? The crowd frozen mid-motion? Lucas in the spotlight like he is the moment? Unforgettable.”
“Damn, these photos make me wish I was there. Watching Lucas live, hearing him speak — that kind of presence doesn’t come around often.”
Larry had titled the stage photo: "The Voice That Stood Alone."
A name that captured the weight of Lucas’s stand — a symbol of humanity, conviction, and defiance.
Back at his apartment, Larry’s phone hadn’t stopped ringing. His inbox was flooded with requests from agencies, magazines, and collectors all vying for the rights.
Some were offering tens of thousands. Others? Upward of six figures.
Even for a seasoned pro like Larry, it was surreal.
Just minutes after ending a call, his phone buzzed again.
“Larry Busacca speaking,” he answered, trying to sound casual despite the fatigue.
A crisp voice on the other end replied,
“Mr. Busacca, I represent Vanity Fair. We’re extremely interested in your photograph — The Voice That Stood Alone.”
Larry blinked.
“You and everyone else.”
“We’re prepared to offer five hundred thousand dollars for exclusive rights.”
For a moment, Larry said nothing.
Half a million.
“That’s… generous,” he said slowly, masking his disbelief. “Let me… think it over.”
“Of course. We’ll follow up by tomorrow.”
The call ended.
Larry leaned back in his chair, staring again at the photo glowing on his laptop screen.
Lucas onstage. The spotlight. The stillness.
The crowd, blurred like background noise.
A man standing alone — yet speaking for millions.
He rubbed his chin.
“Half a million for a photo that can be reproduced endlessly and turned into books, prints, merchandise…”
“Seems reasonable.”
But another thought crept in.
“Should I sell it now? Let others profit? Will the message still carry, or get swallowed by marketing?”
He didn’t have an answer yet.
Only the image — and the weight of the moment it captured.

Meanwhile, across the industry, things were accelerating.
After days of private talks, Neil finally opened the gates — allowing HBO, Apple TV, and Netflix to enter a formal bidding war for the exclusive rights to produce the Lucas Knight documentary.
Lucas had just given his reluctant blessing.
And once the platforms were greenlit, they pounced.
The bidding war was intense.
HBO led the first day with a solid offer and a promise of creative control.
Apple countered with aggressive numbers and a streaming-wide exclusive.
Netflix didn’t speak much. But when they did?
They dropped the bomb.
A $15 million deal — full creative backing, multi-language support, a release in over 190 countries, and immediate production greenlight.
In just 72 hours, the winner was clear.
Netflix.
They wasted no time.
As soon as the deal was signed, calls were made. Production wheels spun.
This wasn’t just content. This was history.
And Netflix already had a name in mind:
Joel Berlinger.
•••••••••
Los Angeles.
In a quiet home in Laurel Canyon, Joel Berlinger was laughing with his family over a backyard barbecue when his phone rang.
“Berlinger here,” he answered, wiping his hands.
The voice on the other end was crisp. Netflix.
“Joel. We want you to direct the Lucas Knight documentary.”
Joel froze mid-step.
The noise of the backyard seemed to fade.
“Wait… Did I just hear that right?” he asked slowly. “You want me to do the Lucas Knight documentary?”
“That’s right,” the Netflix exec confirmed. “The bidding’s over. It’s ours. You’re our guy. Prep starts now—investigators and researchers are already being pulled in. You’ll get full support.”
Then he added, "So, you in or not?"
A grin spread across Joel’s face.
He felt the weight of the moment.
“Of course. I’m in.”
The call ended after a few quick logistical details.
Joel walked back out to the patio, still a bit dazed.
His wife looked up from her chair, a glass of lemonade in hand.
“So… who was that?”
His daughter, sitting cross-legged on the grass with her phone, perked up, eyes wide.
“It was Netflix!” Joel said, practically breathless. “They want me to direct the documentary about the Lucas Knight shooting—and find out who was really behind it!”
His family didn’t react at first.
But once the words sank in, the backyard came alive.
“Wait, seriously!?” his daughter jumped up from the lawn, eyes wide. “You’re doing Lucas Knight’s documentary!?”
His wife nearly dropped her drink, staring at him. “Are you kidding me right now?”
Joel laughed, still stunned himself. “Nope. They just confirmed it. I’m heading to their office now. Looks like I’m going to be pretty busy for a while.”
“Does that mean you’ll meet Lucas in person?” his daughter rushed to his side, grabbing his arm. “Can I come with you!?”
Joel chuckled. “Not a chance.”
“Pleeease!” she begged, putting on her best dramatic face.
Even his wife joined in with a grin. “Come on, love. Can we meet him? Just once?”
Joel sighed and ran a hand through his hair. “This is a huge opportunity. If Netflix sees me bringing the family along to production meetings, they might think I’m not serious. I need you guys to understand.”
They both looked a little disappointed, and Joel softened.
“I promise I’ll tell you everything. But right now, I need to take a quick shower and head out.”
He gave them a small smile as he turned back toward the house.
Behind him, his daughter muttered under her breath, “He better bring back an autograph.”
Later that day, Joel arrived at the Netflix headquarters. As he stepped into the sleek lobby, a group of producers approached him with brisk smiles and firm handshakes.
“Berlinger,” one of them said, nodding. “Glad you’re here.”
Joel returned the gesture with a polite smile. “Hi, guys. Ready to dig in.”
They didn’t waste time. As they moved toward the conference room, one of the senior producers glanced over.
“You’ll be meeting Lucas soon. Just… be open. He’s sharp, but guarded.”
Joel nodded. “Understood. I’ll handle it.”

Meanwhile, inside an armored SUV winding its way through Los Angeles traffic, Lucas and Jennifer sat in silence. The tinted windows shielded them from the world outside, but tension lingered in the air.
“This documentary… I hope it goes smoothly,” Jennifer said quietly, her gaze fixed on the road ahead.
Lucas glanced at her. Her fingers were fidgeting again. Her eyes had that far-off look he’d grown familiar with.
‘She’s overthinking again,’ he thought. ‘Ever since the shooting, she hasn’t been the same. Always expecting something to go wrong.’
He sighed inwardly. ‘We’ve both been seeing a trauma specialist. It’s helping… slowly. But some scars don’t fade easily.’
What they’d endured wasn’t just a moment—it was a weight they now carried every day. Still, Jennifer had held herself together. She hadn’t run. She hadn’t broken down. And that, in Lucas’s eyes, made her one of the strongest people he knew.
He reached across the seat and gently pressed his hand over hers.
“This will go smoothly,” he said, his voice calm. “Just trust me.”
Jennifer nodded faintly, grateful for his steadiness.
Minutes later, the SUV pulled up in front of Netflix headquarters. Staff members by the entrance froze in surprise as Lucas Knight and Jennifer walked out, flanked by a full security detail.
Even in silence, their presence made the building pause.
The staff quickly assisted the power couple, guiding Lucas Knight and Jennifer Lawrence through Netflix’s sleek corridors. Heads turned as they passed — the Oscar-winning actress and the most talked-about man in the industry. Some even called him 'one of the greatest young actors of all time,' one of the youngest ever to achieve EGOT status.
Some staff wanted to ask for photos or autographs, but none dared. The eight-person security team surrounding them made that clear. And even without them, most understood — the couple hadn’t fully healed from the trauma. No one wanted to cross a line.
When they reached the executive office, the doors opened smoothly.
Inside, Joel Berlinger stood with several Netflix producers. He stepped forward immediately as the couple entered.
“Mr. Knight. Ms. Lawrence,” Joel greeted, extending his hand. “Welcome.”
The atmosphere, though warm, was still tense. Two guards remained inside, flanking Lucas and Jennifer, while six others waited outside the door, scanning every passing figure.
Lucas noticed the unease and gave a faint chuckle.
“Sorry about the extra muscle,” he said, gesturing to the two guards beside him. “I might need them this close until things settle down.”
Joel nodded in understanding. “We get it. If I were in your shoes, I wouldn’t sleep without a guard nearby. Honestly, I’d probably ask one to stand guard inside the shower—loofah in one hand, Glock in the other.”
The room chuckled, the tension easing just a little. Even Jennifer cracked a soft smile.
“Anyway,” Joel continued, “I’m Joel Berlinger, the director. It’s an honor to be working on this project… and with you both.”
Lucas nodded. “Looking forward to it.”
“Same here,” Jennifer added with a small nod.
Joel’s smile widened. Nearby, Jack and Simon—Lucas’s longtime personal security—relaxed ever so slightly, satisfied with the safety of the setting.
Once everyone was seated, Joel began outlining the structure of Episode 1 of the documentary.
“We’ll start with your Oscar speech,” he said, clicking through slides on a screen. “That’s our emotional entry point—the moment that captivated the world. From there, we’ll build the timeline… the mounting tensions between you and high-profile figures like Harvey Sr., your father Vince, your half-sister Katherine…”
Jennifer quietly glanced at Lucas as those names were mentioned, but he gave no reaction.
Joel continued, “Then we’ll touch on Myla Knight—your stepmother—and Sean Daddy., who’s been a growing point of speculation.”
“The first episode won’t try to name the mastermind,” another producer chimed in. “It’ll just lay the groundwork, ending with a powerful lead-in to the real investigation that follows.”
Lucas gave a slow nod. “You’ll be collaborating with the authorities, right?”
Joel looked up. “Yes. We’ve got cooperation from the FBI’s media liaison team, and we’re in talks with independent investigators and a few cybersecurity experts who want to help.”
“Good,” Lucas replied. “Because the truth matters.”
The room fell into a brief, contemplative silence. Then Joel broke it.
“We want this to be more than just a documentary. We want this to be a statement.”
