Within the first hour, the video soared past 3.5 million views—climbing so rapidly it felt like the view counter couldn’t keep up. Twitter lit up with reactions.
Hashtags like #Rewind2017 and #LucasKnightRewind were already trending globally. Facebook timelines were flooded with reposts. Vine, now serving more as a hub for short clips, was stacked with snippets from the video—most of them centered around Lucas’s songs or the comedic opening.
And the comment section? It was chaos—in the best way. Tens of thousands of comments piled up in just minutes, each more enthusiastic than the last.
What caught people most off-guard was Lucas Knight’s appearance.
“WAIT. Lucas is in Rewind?! How much did YouTube have to pay him???”
“Okay, I didn’t expect Lucas to pop up—but I’m not complaining.”
“I kind of wish he had more screentime though… but wow, this was actually GOOD.”
And then there were the reactions to the music:
“Bro, these songs are actual bangers.”
“I don’t care about the rest of the Rewind—I’m just here for Lucas’s songs. Please tell me they’re on Spotify.”
“No way Lucas wrote both of these too?? Despacito, now this? The guy’s got infinite cheat codes.”
The songs were clearly the driving force behind the view count. People kept replaying the video—not just once or twice, but on loop. It wasn’t just a Rewind anymore—it was an unofficial music video, wrapped inside a love letter to YouTube culture.
Someone even joked on Reddit: “This isn’t YouTube Rewind, it’s the Lucas Knight Holiday Special—and I’m all for it.”
The unexpected blend of authenticity, nostalgia, humor, and heart was a hit. And while Lucas may not have dominated the screen time, his presence defined the Rewind’s soul.
It was loud. It was fun. It was real.
And for the first time in years, everyone agreed—
YouTube Rewind was finally... back.
---
Meanwhile, MrBeast’s comment under the YouTube Rewind was blowing up.
Tens of thousands of likes. Thousands of replies.
At his house, Jimmy stared at the screen in disbelief. “Wow,” he muttered. “That escalated fast.”
Sitting beside him, Chris leaned over and chuckled. “Dude. You made that comment as a joke—now it’s practically viral. Guess you gotta deliver now. PS4 and a thousand bucks.”
Jimmy grinned. “Well, why not? Let’s turn it into a video. ‘Giving a Random Commenter a PS4 and $1,000’—has a nice ring to it.”
Chris laughed. “Classic Jimmy.”
“Let’s record now,” Jimmy said, already grabbing his camera.
They gathered their gear and called over a few of Jimmy’s friends. In his room, the group sifted through the replies, debating which commenter to choose. Eventually, they picked one: a simple reply that just said “Hi.” The username matched an email address.

The next day, in a quiet suburban neighborhood, Raymond was walking home, still sore from being teased by local kids over his family’s now-viral prank video. As he entered the house, he checked his phone and blinked at a new email notification.
From: MrBeast
Subject: You won the giveaway!
His heart skipped. “No way... Is this real?”
He read it again. They were asking for his address—to send him a PS4 and a thousand dollars.
‘This has to be a prank... again,’ he thought, hesitating.
But something about it felt... different.
He took a chance and replied.
The following afternoon, a knock came at the front door.
Raymond opened it—and froze.
Standing outside was a tall young man with a wide grin. Behind him, a camera rolled, held by Chris.
“Are you Raymond?” Jimmy asked, beaming. “You replied to my comment—and guess what? You won the PS4 and a thousand bucks! Congratulations, man!”
Raymond’s eyes widened. “Wait... seriously?”
Jimmy nodded, holding out the box and an envelope of cash. “All yours.”
For a second, Raymond just stared. Then the realization hit—and a huge smile spread across his face.
From the hallway, his family stepped out, their expressions shifting from curiosity to stunned silence as they watched Raymond receive the prize they once faked.
No pranks. No punchline.
Just a gift—real this time.

Five days after its release, YouTube Rewind 2017 had already amassed over 120 million views.
The explosive growth stunned even the creators who took part in it. The media caught on fast—talk shows, blogs, and entertainment outlets scrambled to cover the buzz, interviewing YouTubers and highlighting key moments from the video.
For many creators, the Rewind became a career-defining moment.
PewDiePie, Jacksepticeye, Markiplier, DanTDM, the Paul brothers, and KSI all experienced a fresh surge of subscribers and public attention. Many of them uploaded vlogs sharing their behind-the-scenes experience, mixing personal reflections with clips from the Rewind shoot.
Some thumbnails were unmistakably clickbait:
“I Met Lucas Knight—and He’s Not Who You Think He Is”
“Lucas Did THIS To Me... You Won’t Believe What Happened”
Titles were loaded with mystery, while thumbnails hinted at drama—only for viewers to find wholesome, funny stories inside. Most were playful exaggerations, and audiences were loving it.
Among all creators, MrBeast saw the biggest boost. His comment under the Rewind had now reached over a million likes, with hundreds of thousands still replying, hoping to win.
To their surprise, Jimmy uploaded a video titled:
“I Gave a PS4 and $1,000 to a Random YouTube Commenter”
In the video, he told the story of Raymond—the kid who had been publicly pranked by his family on Christmas. Initially, some viewers were disappointed not to win, but after hearing Raymond’s story, many felt sympathy for the middle child who got humiliated on camera.
The comment section was full of support:
“Okay, this kid deserved it more than any of us.”
“Raymond’s story broke my heart. Thanks for doing this, Mr. Beast.”
MrBeast also took the opportunity to speak about his time filming Rewind, inserting footage from the set and highlighting his interactions with Lucas. Like many others, Jimmy praised Lucas publicly, giving his audience a glimpse of the actor’s humility and charisma off-camera.
Lucas Knight, once again, dominated the internet.
His songs were trending, his name flooded search results, and for a moment, it felt like the whole world was watching him.
Time passed. New Year’s Eve came and went.
And now, the Golden Globe Awards 2018 were fast approaching.
Lucas had been nominated for Best Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy for La La Land, which had been released the previous Valentine’s Day. The film was also up for Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, Best Director, Best Original Score, and Best Original Song.
Naturally, Lucas had to attend.
Neil, ever the efficient manager, was already overseeing wardrobe fittings and grooming schedules. But Lucas, despite his sharp eye for detail, was disinterested.
He’d been in the industry long enough to know the game. Glitz, glamor—and the darker undercurrents that few ever spoke about.
If La La Land hadn’t been nominated, he probably wouldn’t have gone at all.
---
Before the awards ceremony, Lucas and Jennifer met up with Emma Stone, his co-star in La La Land, at a luxurious restaurant in Beverly Hills.
“Oh, Jennifer,” Emma said with a bright smile. “It’s so good to see you again!”
“Likewise,” Jennifer returned warmly.
The two women hugged, laughing with the ease of old friends.
Lucas raised an eyebrow. “So… you two became friends behind my back?”
Emma and Jennifer exchanged amused glances and laughed.
“Well,” Jennifer said, “you’ve been so busy you didn’t even notice.”
Emma nodded. “We’ve actually talked a few times on the phone. Catching up whenever we could.”
Then she stepped forward and hugged Lucas. “It’s great to see you again too.”
“You’re all over the internet lately,” she added with a grin. “Music, memes, Rewind... You’re on fire.”
Jennifer chimed in with a teasing tone, “What’s new? He attracts attention just by walking into a room.”
Emma laughed. Lucas simply smiled and shook his head.
“Just doing what I do,” he said with a shrug.
As they talked, a familiar face entered the restaurant—Damien Chazelle, director of La La Land and Whiplash. He was all smiles, radiating the quiet confidence of a man finding momentum again after a quiet spell.
“Lucas!” Damien greeted warmly, pulling him into a brief hug. “Good to see you, man.”
“You too,” Lucas replied with a small grin.
Since the success of Whiplash, Damien had remained respected in the industry but hadn't quite captured the same level of mainstream buzz—until now. With La La Land gaining traction again during awards season, his excitement was palpable.
The two caught up quickly, reminiscing about the filming, the awards, and their shared creative chemistry. Then Damien handed over a folder—slick, minimalist.
“What’s this?” Lucas asked.
“A new project,” Damien said casually. “A biopic. About Neil Armstrong—the moon landing, his legacy, but more personal. I’d like you to play him.”
Lucas raised an eyebrow. “You want me to play Armstrong?”
Damien nodded, careful not to come across as pushy. “Only if it interests you. I think you’d bring something different to the role. No pressure, man—just call me if it speaks to you.”
Lucas flipped briefly through the pages. “Alright. I’ll think about it.”
“Good,” Damien said with a knowing smile. “That’s all I ask.”
Later that evening, they returned to their hotel to rest.
The next day would be the 2018 Golden Globe Awards.
—
And soon enough, the 75th Golden Globe Awards began. The atmosphere on the red carpet was electric—buzzing with excitement and flashing cameras.
The walkway itself? Dazzling.
Notable celebrities walked under the flash of cameras and roar of fans—Oprah Winfrey, Nicole Kidman, Saoirse Ronan, Tom Hanks, Gal Gadot, Denzel Washington, and Margot Robbie were among those drawing attention.
But one face was still missing—until now.
From a sleek black limousine, Lucas Knight stepped out in a sharp custom tuxedo.
Gasps rose from the crowd as he opened the opposite door—and out stepped Emma Stone, radiant in a champagne-colored gown.
Following them was Damien Chazelle, straightening his tie.
Screams erupted across the carpet.
“Oh my God—it’s Lucas!”
“He actually came this year!”
A cluster of fans holding “LUCAS” signs screamed like they couldn’t believe their eyes. Many had assumed he wouldn’t show up—after all, he’d skipped the previous year, and Lucas was famously selective with public appearances, especially awards shows.
Now, not only had he arrived—he was escorting Emma Stone.
Flashes fired. Reporters shouted questions. The energy surged.
“Lucas! Look here!”
“Emma, to the left!”
The crowd's enthusiasm was wild—too wild. Emma, despite being used to the spotlight, looked a bit overwhelmed by the sheer intensity of the reception. She leaned closer to Lucas.
Lucas noticed immediately and gave her a small, reassuring smile. He whispered calmly, “We should walk a little faster before they lose their minds.”
Emma chuckled. “You’re not wrong.” She knew their arrival together was coordinated, but she hadn’t expected this kind of frenzy. Still, she kept pace, letting Lucas guide her through the chaos with calm composure.

Well, at least 2017 rewind will be forever remembered now as not being cringe and out of touch. Also will Lucas ever do a collab with G-friend? Or any other K-pop other than BTS?
