Mid-month Progress Update!
🕑 Added 2024-05-15 04:55:08 +0000 UTCI've finally thought of a decent compromise to posting WIPs! Usually I don't quite like doing that as I feel it spoils the reveal of the set too much - but given my posting "model" and frequency, I do feel like checking in with you guys a bit more at least. That's the least I owe for all the wonderful support.
And so I present - rejected compositions and ideas for this month's set!
Each of these didn't quite work out for various reasons given my final goals for the set, but I still spent quite some time on them, so it also feels good to have them see the light of day (even if it's just here on Patreon)
It does spoil the theme a little bit, but my final 4 are none of these comps so we will still have a surprise factor to that when they are done :)
Let me know what you think about this style of update!
p.s. Also, both of my artbooks are on 20% off, so feel free to head over to https://store.3dtotal.com/collections/guweiz-books and pick them up if you've been waiting for this :)

I don't see this as a spoil. Seeing progress posts like this just gets me even more amped up and excited for the set! I can tell this set is going to be amazing, as always. :)

I'll incorporate some of these into the process video for sure! To quickly answer for now, I felt I wasn't quite proficient yet at using these type of pull-back compositions as well as I would like, and decided to swap some of them out for a bit more character focus!
GUWEIZ
I'm glad you like them! Conveying with minimal brushstrokes allows for some quick and efficient idea testing indeed :)
GUWEIZ
I'll be sure to incorporate some of these into the explanation video :)

Seeing the rejected sketches is cool, it's a way to move imagination a bit because we get to look at these and maybe pick up a story of our own. If that makes sense. I would love to know why you rejected them, was it a technical issue or did they not fit the mood you were going for? Learning why you rejected them might be a valuable resource for those of us who aren't best at composition. But this is just an idea, I do know how busy things can get!

I love these unfinished works - the looser, the better! It reveals some of your thought process and ability to convey information with a few marks. The one she’s sitting in the fireplace is a great example. I’m curious to see the finished piece.

Awesome thanks!

will you briefly be touching more on why these were rejected in the process video this month? they look so cool
GUWEIZ
Thank you, it's nice to share them as well with you guys!
GUWEIZ
Thank you for the kind words!
GUWEIZ
It's indeed a challenging process, I can definitely touch on that for the video!
GUWEIZ
Thank you! It was definitely out of comfort zone never having done this theming at my current level of detail before, I will try my best to deliver some good art!

Red hair is such a free composition boon I can't believe I haven't done it more :)
GUWEIZ
Thank you, I'm working hard to deliver something that will be visually impactful :)

It's not strange at all, and regarding that I heard something from a great artist before - that even when you are not drawing, doing research on ideas and reference or just processing them over and over in your head can also be part of the process - and even watching movies can also be a form of learning :) I always found that comforting!

love to see the progress and rejected works, and I'm curious about what a church or temple of a fantasy world look like in your imagination , eager to see the complete works.

I have a strange question to ask you I wonder if there are times when you really want to draw but don’t have time to? I've encountered this situation frequently recently. I feel unhappy and don't know how to deal with this feeling.

I like that formula, it's nice to see your wips or rejected artworks too! 🥰

Man if these are the rejects then I can’t wait to see the final products. This looks amazingggg

These look cool! I’m excited for the reveal. On the video breakdown later could you explain your approach to organising natural settings where perspective is harder to work with because there is no real right angles/buildings human structures.

Love the direction you're going with and the different mood! Feels fresh!
