Who cares? I like the dude- and using a platform to promote a solid candidate is respectable. It’s a good interview- you should listen to it!

What's a "New York City?" Is that like Chicago?

Astoria and Williamsburg, pump your little pockets out as the staffers of the DSA grift off the public financing so you can get Sewer Socialism. Pathetic. Never will learn.

I think I cited Zohran's dad (Mahmood Mamdani) in my thesis relating nationalism. Cool beans.

He doesn't have a shot. I thought we were done with these DSA grifters? Next!

Man, this discussion is so interesting and familiar to me. I'm at the other end of the Earth, with one of the most expensive housing markets in the world. (Literally, 2nd. I'm giving up my location by saying that.) I'm a severely, physically disabled person without much "traditional" support (ie no family, not really any close friends who still live in my country), being evicted for *officially* no reason. Certainly not for a lack of payment of rent. I have the equivalent of “rent vouchers” which are very rare and valuable, here, only available because public housing was built with almost zero accessibility for disabled people, thus I can get subsidised in the private market. My rent went up in Sep-2024 by 33% in one go. I was promised, at least, a new 1-year fixed lease in exchange. They put up the rent and then just never sent the paperwork for me to sign. I have the promise *in writing.* Yet I can't get a plebs' lawyer to take the matter seriously. I still have quite a lot *more* money to offer, which would put the rental increase up to *57%* above what it was in Sep-2024. It’s pretty obvious that I’m being discriminated against for being disabled, because there are so many rational reasons for keeping me on, but the landor and/or his agent got have gotten so used to a near 0% rental vacancy rate that they’ve gotten in the habit of constantly intruding in my home. We have a legal tenancy concept, here, about a tenant’s “right to peaceful use of the premises”, or words to that effect, but suddenly that has no legal relevance, either. When I tried to point out that I’m disabled and struggling with chronic health issues and I just want to free of their invasiveness in order to focus on my health. I gave the agent concrete examples of how their invasiveness had led me, for example, to end up in the hospital emergency ward with, literally, “symptoms of starvation”. I had told a friend that I was scared to admit this to the agent in case this prompted them to fear legal exposure evict me, but in the end I did it, and I was completely correct: within 24 hours of saying that, I was given an eviction notice. Free tenancy advocates (the free lawyers hide behind them) won’t deal with the fairly obvious discrimination angle because they “don’t deal with discrimination”, and disability law QuaNGOs won’t deal with the discrimination angle because they say they “don’t touch tenancy issues.” Suddenly, with a 0% vacancy rate, no relevant laws apply, anymore, apparently. There haven't been rent controls in this city since shortly after WW2. This country has the most insane tax policies in the world that basically allow sufficiently wealthy people to be subsidised by the government to use the property market as a tax-evasion scheme, whereby at the end, they own an investment property, outright. 75% of politicians at “multiple levels” (not sure exactly what this consists of, but that’s what I’ve heard in the discourse) are landlords several-times over. So they’re completely financially conflicted over this. The biggest single piece of evidence you need in order to understand this is that it took *17-freakin-years* for our politicians to *implement* anti-money-laundering legislation that they’d passed. It wasn’t until the Paris-based Financial Action Task-Force (FATF) was about to put us on their money-laundering “grey list”, along with countries like Afghanistan, that our politicians finally caved. The reason, of course, is that our housing market is one of the biggest *money-laundering* mechanisms in the world: you can turn up to buy a house with a suitcase full of physical cash and no-one is obliged to ask any questions. So lots of money gets embezzled out of places like the Chinese government and laundered through our housing market. And our politicians like that, simply because it adds to demand for our housing, which adds to the value of their property portfolios! That’s why it took 17 years. I’m now being pushed out, through an internal migration crisis, of the neighbourhood I’ve spent most of my life in, most of that living right by a sewage treatment plant. It wasn't a desirable property! The whole neighbourhood was poor. It’s been gentrified, of course, and now I’m being pushed out by massive immigration, mostly consisting of a certain group of people that colonised ¼ of the world. There are many videos online of them justifying this in terms of how, “Our own country and culture is being destroyed by brown immigrants.” I’m brown, and I’m being displaced by this lot! This is nominally “First World country”, nominally very wealthy, although much of that wealth is on-paper, arising from the value of housing as an asset casino. More than 20% of the people in this country are multi-millionaires, just because of this. These policies are so insane that it’s impossible to see how this country will recover. It’s been looted by politicians and the upper-middle-class and the rich, and will be left as a permanent wreck -- the next Argentina. I just wish we’d had some kind of rent controls since WW2, or indeed now.

I have a theory that Adams will switch Republican in return for a pardon

New Yorker here, Zohran is the only candidate I’m ranking or willing to vote for in the general. He actually was the first New York pol to come to my wife’s pickets when her job was on strike (she was on the bargaining team). He was the most consistent presence at them too. He’s a real one.

I remember a few years ago when I went to city hall in Manhattan to support NYC taxi drivers on their hunger strike against totally unfair medallion conditions and Zohran was there striking in solidarity with them and hadn’t eaten for weeks along with so many others. They pressured the city to negotiate more reasonable terms for yellow cab medallion holders. Dunno if it’s mentioned in this interview at all but he’s the real deal, folks.
