Dev Diary, March 22nd, 2024
🕑 Added 2024-03-22 13:01:51 +0000 UTCIt's been a bit of an odd week.
I had to buy quite a few new 3D assets for some new scenes and decided to update Daz and my Nvidia drivers along with them. Turns out that was not a good idea, and the 'new and improved' Daz gave me quite a few problems. First, the new 3D scene I had bought would not render at all, and it took me a full day before I realized that it was just that new asset and not the ones I already owned.
In addition to that, Daz would get slower and slower and eventually freeze as I worked - also on my render rig as it loaded and rendered slower and slower. I woke up one morning, my CPU was extremely hot, and the fan had been running 100% for most of the night.
The problems were connected to the new free "Heat" plugin offered at the Daz store - which is ironic when you think about it, due to my CPU overheating.
So, as a general service announcement to all of you who are using Daz for art or games and have downloaded the free Heat plugin—disable it! From what I've heard, the people behind Daz are aware of the problem and have asked the plugin's developers to fix it, but they have not given any regular user any announcement about it.
The newest Nvidia Game/Studio drivers have also given me a few problems, but I haven't heard anybody else being fully updated reporting anything.
Overall, only 49 renders were done this week, but now everything is working fine, and I'll be speeding along at a normal rate.
Next week is Easter (for those of you who celebrate it), so there will be no normal dev diary on Friday, but I'll give you a little surprise post instead.
Have a nice weekend, and stay safe out there.

Sorry to hear about the annoyances. Thanks for the update and keep up the good work.

Yep, yep.. Software updates are fun. I feel like often enough you're just rolling the dice on what will improve and what else will break. :D To be fair though, if that plugin is called "Heat" then maybe it really is working as intended! Thanks for the update Drifty, have a great week!

Yeah, "free" add-ons to the software we all know that and "new and improved" well more like usual problems after any drivers update. Glad to hear everything is working. Thanks a lot and Happy Easter

Ah the joy of software updates... I'm glad you are over this little hiccup. Now, to the more important question: Which girl should dress up in an Easter Bunny costume this year? 😄 I wanna see Sea. (Punn fully intended.) Happy Easter brother. 😎
