I’d handed Evan the keys Friday night at the gym, figuring it’d make his Saturday move smoother since I’d be out most of the day.
Saturday night, Ryan and I were coming back from a couple drinks at this bar down by the gym. It wasn’t a big night out, just us grabbing beers, talking shit about Jason, being flirty and handsy...but by the time we got to my building, we were in that loose, buzzy mood where everything felt a bit funnier than it should.
I unlocked the door and pushed it open, Ryan right behind me.
And there he was.
Evan.
Standing in the middle of the living room with a plant in each hand like he was deciding where to put them. The drop armhole tank he had on wasn’t just loose, it was basically abs with fabric around the neck. From where I stood, I could see the whole cut of his torso through the gap in the sides, sharp lines of his obliques disappearing into his shorts. His nipples; light pink, flat from the cool air flashed with every slight shift.
“Hey,” he said casually, not even glancing up for long before going back to rearranging the greenery.
I glanced around. There were boxes stacked neatly by the wall, a couple framed prints leaning against the couch, and those plants already making the place look less like a gym bro’s crash pad and more like an actual home.
“You moved in,” I said, tossing my keys in the bowl by the door.
“Yeah. Today went smooth. Hope you don’t mind I dropped some plants in here before unpacking the rest.”
“Yeah, yeah,” I replied. “You’re gonna be living here, so make it your space.”
Ryan stepped in beside me, looking around. “These plants actually look good. Adding some color to Drew’s life.”
I gave him a look for that, then turned back to Evan. “This is Ryan… uh… my… friend…” I glanced at Ryan, searching for the right word. “…from college.”
Ryan looked at me for a second, like he was waiting for something better, but that was all I had in the moment. What else was I supposed to say? Hey Evan, this is Ryan… he used to date my little brother, and now we have sex everyday. We’re basically fuck buddies with a sprinkle of romance, but definitely not boyfriends. Yeah… no.
Evan leaned forward like he was going to shake Ryan’s hand, but there was a moving box in front of him, so he had to bend over it. The tank gaped wide, and for a second, his nipple just… slipped out into view.
Ryan’s eyes flicked down, then back up. “Oh—hi.”
“I’m Evan,” he said easily. “Drew’s new roommate.”
Then he turned back to what he was doing, rearranging the plants, carrying a couple boxes down the hall into Jason’s old room, coming back out, moving something else. Back and forth, like we weren’t even there.
Ryan waited until Evan disappeared into his room again, then gave me this flat, unreadable stare as we walked toward my room.
“I didn’t know he was moving in today,” he said.
“I told you.. about Evan, my new roommate.”
“Yeah…” Ryan’s voice lingered in the air for a second, like he was still turning the thought over in his head. His gaze flicked toward the hallway Evan had just walked down, then back to me. “But you didn’t tell me he looks like…” He paused again, letting it hang. “…an enhanced version of me.”
The words landed heavier than I expected. I shut the bedroom door behind us, sealing off the sound of Evan shuffling boxes. Ryan sat on the edge of the bed, his elbows resting on his knees, lips pulled into a flat line.
“He’s basically Ryan 2.0,” he added with a small, humorless huff.
I crossed the room and sat down beside him, close enough that our thighs touched. “You know that’s not true,” I said, my voice low. My hand found the curve of his ass through his jeans and gave it a slow squeeze. “My eyes are only for your fat, jiggly butt, Ry.”
He snorted, but I could tell he liked hearing it. I kept my hand there, fingers moving in lazy circles, even though a flicker of guilt ran through me; guilt from last weekend, from that one second at the gym when my eyes had wandered and caught on Evan’s fat ass while I was spotting him during kettlebell squats. That little slip-up had been playing in my head all week, and I’d sworn to myself I wouldn’t let it happen again.
I’m not the kind of guy who gets distracted by the next shiny new thing and decides to cheat. Not my style. And yeah, Ryan and I aren’t exactly “boyfriends” on paper but I’ve always liked being a one-man kind of man.
Ryan’s smile told me he’d picked up on the sincerity in my voice. It softened his whole expression. “So,” he said, tilting his head, “are you going to fuck this butt tonight… or am I going to have to jerk off and sleep?”
That broke the tension. I laughed, leaning in until my forehead brushed his. Then I kissed him; slow and deep at first, letting my lips linger against his, tasting the beer from earlier. His mouth opened for me almost instantly, our tongues sliding together in that familiar, messy rhythm that never took long to turn into something else entirely.
Ryan leaned back on the bed, pulling me with him. My hand slid down to cup him properly, the warmth of him already pressing into my palm. He sighed into my mouth, that low sound he only makes when I’ve got him exactly where he wants to be.
I broke the kiss just long enough to trail my lips along his jaw, down his neck, feeling the thump of his pulse against my mouth. My other hand worked at his waistband, sliding fingers under the denim until I could feel the heat of his skin.
“Still worried about Ryan 2.0?” I murmured against his throat.
“Not when you’re touching me like this,” he breathed, his fingers slipping under the hem of my shirt to drag over my abs.
I kissed him again, harder this time, my knee sliding between his legs as I pushed him back into the mattress. Somewhere in the back of my head, I could hear the faint sound of Evan moving around in the hallway, but right now, all I cared about was the way Ryan’s body was arching under mine and the heat building between us.
