I am of Dutch descent, living in a Dutch community in Wisconsin. Our ancestors were from Gelderland and brought recipes along from Netherlands, most of which have disappeared. Two remain and they are worstebrodges and Ole bolen. Our ole bolen are bakery dough, with or without raisins and deep fried in 1 1/2 to 2 inch balls then rolled in sugar. We usually get them only in the summer during our Holland Fest celebration.

I only eat oliebollen once a year (last day of the year) and it is so good. The water is walking in my mouth (Worst translation ever) by thinking about it.
