Misadventures in Blender NPR rendering
🕑 Added 2024-08-20 17:14:53 +0000 UTCWhat I'm supposed to be doing is practicing my 2D art- that's what I had planned to do lately anyway, but as usual my brain had other ideas, I kept getting distracted with things to try on stylized blender rendering. I actually finally managed to find a way to generate outlines on fur (which was always the big sticking point, most of the traditional ways of doing outlines in 3D don't work on fur), and with a lot of manual tweaking and fiddling it's getting frustratingly close to being usable. I don't think it's quite there yet... This is a particularly good angle, but some things look pretty rough from some angles in a way I haven't been able to find a way to address yet. The fur is a bit too "visually loud" as well, but I haven't found a good looking way to tamp that down.
It's starting to hurt me how close this is getting to looking at least passable for making comics with or something, but it's just not quite there yet. Maybe if I combine this with more traditional mesh-based methods of representing fur.... ah, but now I'm just thinking out loud.
For now I'm gonna try to force myself to get back to 2D stuff, but I figured I'd show you all what I've been up to.
And if you don't care about any of that, here' s a random nekkid moira, I hope it amuses you.

Oh hey, thanks for the support! All my stuff is actually available freely for viewing, either on my furaffinity account, or on e621.net by just searching my name. This place is mainly just a way for those who like what I do to support it!

Hey, im new around here (as in just bought the sub), where (or how) can i find animations or drawings?
Rusty Shackleford
are we gonna see more of that cross-fox you posted on e621?

Thanks! If I can whip this model into shape I might try a little somethin' somethin' with her to see how it works out.

Definitely a similar idea! 3D outlines have a "look" to them that most everything using them will share.

It's been a bit tricky! Non-realistic rendering styles are sorely under-represented in 3D software so it's always a battle to make it happen. But I'ma keep hacking away at it, I think the potential is there!

Oh that's hekkin' cool!! Really cool style! I can only imagine how difficult the whole process surrounding this must be! <3

It reminds me of the Borderlands art style. I dig it ๐

This is really coming along amazing. Ha. Wish I could pull this off in my comic :p I look forward to seeing you work with it more.

Sounds exciting! I'm sure with a bit more tweaking, itโll turn out great. Iโm looking forward to seeing what you come up withโanimated or not, itโs already super impressive! Keep up the awesome work! ๐

Aw, well thank yas! It definitely needs a little more work, but if I can find a way to work out the last few kinks it might just be possible to do something animated in this style. We'll see, I'll keep fiddling with it as ideas come to mind. :P

Its Not a bug its a Feature!

I really love this style, and I would be thrilled to see animations done in it!

This looks amazing! Great job on the renders and solving those challenging issues. Even if there are still some details to work out, you're clearly on your way to something really awesome. Wishing you success both in 2D in your Blender experiments!
