Unruly Summon Side Story: What if they summoned the wrong hero?

It depends very much on the point in their timeline in which they got sucked in. (Which means this comment contains spoilers for anyone who hasn't read Unbound Soul!!!) Peter at the start, pre-reincarnation, he'd have noped straight out of there, just like Katie. Peter at the end... Maybe? He would have seen through the deception quickly enough, though, so it wouldn't have gone like King Edward hoped. (Hmm... Actually, that part depends on what sort of System support he could get... With the System's mainframe back on Erryn's world, with no active portals between the two, he'd go into detached mode, so he might end up needed to relearn the local magic from scratch. He'd still have whatever other System boosts still worked in detached mode, though.) Cluma at any age would be a disaster. The Law would mean she couldn't comprehend the possibility of a war between humans and demons. It would lead to a very awkward conversation, followed by them sending her home (or outright murdering her) to move onto the next hero. Erryn again depends on when she was summoned. In the early parts of Lonely Dungeon, they'd have just ended up with a dungeon in the middle of Odimere. She'd have never overcome her programming. (Although, again, the disconnected System would be an issue... She might end up unable to expand, or summon new monsters, or might simply die. Depends on how much operates from her core and how much operates from the mainframe.) Summon her later, after Lonely Dungeon but before her 'death', and you've got the Queen Josse situation on a completely different scale. You have just summoned a planet into your capital city. It won't fit. Everyone on both planets will die. Both planets will likely end up substantially molten. Congratulations; you have instantly ended the war and resolved the miasma issue. Summoning her after her death, she was Lawified for a while, so she'd just have the same issues as Cluma. Summon her after the epilogue, where she had her memories back, and... I dunno, really. She might help, but again, just like Peter, trying to deceive her would be useless and she wouldn't simply go out and kill demons. Whatever time you summon her, you don't end up with the Law.

Makes me wonder: Would Peter have accepted the Hero role? If they summoned Erryn, would the world have been law-ified?

Anya!? 😆 Goof after goof!

> (Also, "cubic *kilometre*"? That seems unlikely, even for something as big as a dragon.) Oops. That's me being silly - what I meant was a thousand cubic metres, which is obviously far far less than a cubic kilometre.

> "Ouch," muttered Katie, staring up at the ceiling, which seemed to have changed colour since she last opened her eyes. LOL! They *did* get Katie! > Katie gave her the minute, sitting up and looking around the room. She took in the female knight in armour that had obviously seen some use. The mage, looking like she'd just done a party trick. The maid with the metal collar around her neck, which, given the other clues, Katie guessed implied slavery. Then she saw the smoke out of the window. > "Nope," she said simply. LUL > Short of being hit by something so traumatic it completely shatters my personality, Heh. Heh heh heh. > A metallic sound accompanied the knight drawing her sword. "Oh, for goodness' sake, put that away," said Katie, casually waving her hand and turning the sword from whatever magical metal it was forged from into completely unmagical marshmallow. LUL > I suppose I was only human back then; it would have been easy to do. Oh, wow. I wasn't expecting them to get *this* version of Katie. > "Don't write me off? Fine, I've already had my personality-shattering traumatic experience, so let's see what you want me to do." > "We're under attack by..." started the girl in the white dress, but though her mouth continued moving, no further words came out. She floundered uselessly, obviously having no clue what had happened. LUL > Okay, I see. Wow. I guess you are going to have to tell me what you summoned me for, because I count at least four existential threats, and I haven't even looked beyond this continent yet. Oh man! Foreshadowing! I'm guessing there's one for each country (which in turn means Volume 5 will probably be on another continent). > "Sheesh, take it in turns, would you? You're lucky I have good ears. To Wendy, because I'm a Katie. To Stephanie, nope. To Christine, too late." > "What? Why?" asked the white one. "Wait, how do you know our names?" LUL > No, the reason I won't help you is because of that." She pointed at Mary. > "What? What did I do?!" exclaimed Mary, panicking. > "Nothing, which is the problem, really. You've just been standing there and smiling, because that's exactly what your puppet masters want you to do, and so, thanks to that collar, you want it too. Any civilization that uses tools that evil doesn't deserve to survive." Heh. > "Now, if you'll excuse me, I'll leave the rest of you to die in peace." They got off really lightly, in all honesty. (Though, I suppose they couldn't really have gotten a heavier punishment, for reasons I'll post on Discord since Patreon doesn't have spoiler tags.) > "Hello?" called Wendy. "I know you're there. I felt you come through the gate." > The other two moved their gazes from the circle to Wendy, expressions shifting from confusion to concern. Hmmm... > "I'm okay," interrupted Stephanie. "I'm okay, I just suddenly felt... weird. And I... uh..." > She peered at the marshmallow puddle appraisingly. > "Please tell me you aren't..." started Wendy, before Stephanie grabbed a handful of the goop from the floor and shoved it into her mouth. LUL > "Cravings, nausea, swollen stomach..." said Wendy. "Oh, come on. That's definitely not possible. Vita Visus." "Wendy?" asked Christine. "She's pregnant. Looks about four months." They got Mystery, didn't they? LMAO That precision F-strike... LOL > "But... But... I'm a virgin!" cried the princess. Well, we know that now. Not that it's likely to be relevant... > My name's Mystery, and I'd quite like to know how you managed that. LUL. Called it! > "You know... I'm starting to really hate Minister Dennis," sighed Stephanie. LOL > "Nope. You're like a silver winged kitten." > "... My father has a lot to answer for," sighed Mystery. "Guess my soul has reshaped itself to fill my vessel. Oh well. I'm used to being the cute mascot by now." LUL. That seems like it could be a problem later for Mystery. > Now me and my mum are stuck in a fifteen year..." > "Yes? Fifteen year what?" > "Sorry, got interrupted by a ding. Turns out [Interdimensional Traveller] is another legendary, so let's make that an eighteen year pregnancy." > "I think that, perhaps, we should give up at this point?" suggested Stephanie. > "I vote in favour. LUL (I'll check the math later, when it's not past midnight here.) > We need a hero to save us, but thus far, our luck has been... poor. Heh. > "Oh, white-haired princess! Don't suppose you're a healer, too?" > "No? The only white spell I can cast is Lux." Oh. Huh. What's Stephanie's affinity, then? > The leather parts flapped in a non-existent wind, losing rigidity as they transitioned into an ankle-length dress of a shiny black fabric. Wow. Mystery actually gave Christine an ankle-length dress. She's improved! Wait... "shiny black fabric"? Maybe not, then. > Why are you all staring at me like that? How do you even know where I am to stare at?" > "Purify..." said Wendy. > "... Miasma?" finished Stephanie. LUL > The girls looked at each other once more. > "Please, teach us this spell," they declared in perfect unison. In perfect sync, just like magical girls! > Mystery went home, and the girls set about putting their new powers to use. Unfortunately, upon seeing the strength that was granted them, they at first tried deploying it against the demons, intending to end the war before turning their attention to miasma. All three thus died rather promptly upon leading a counter-invasion into demonic territory, when the spell broke in response to an act it deemed evil. LUL. RIIIIIIIIIP. Turns out the spell is intelligent enough to know that the "demons" here aren't evil like they in Mystery's world. > "And if we get another Katie?" > "Then I'll handle it," answered Siegfried Kingsblade Heh. i'd like to see you try. (Besides, actually *attacking* Katie sounds like a good way to get your country destroyed in retaliation. > The good news was that the summoning circle activated, and the hero was indeed female once more. The bad news was that this time, they got Queen Josse. LUL > he hadn't seen the cause of the explosion; i.e. that the summoning ritual had summoned over a cubic kilometre of queen into a room that was less than fifty cubic metres LOL (Also, "cubic *kilometre*"? That seems unlikely, even for something as big as a dragon.) > "D... D... D... Dragon!" came a yell from outside. LUL. I sort of called this, but I was thinking of it happening with someone else. > The-Sound-Of-Rain-On-Leaves So *that's* how Elven names work, huh? I wonder if this character will show up in the main story. > Not to mention some of the things he could do with his tongue... Lewd! > The sky darkened. Shadows flickered at the edges of everyone's vision. A strange susurration sounded, with each individual present at the ritual prepared to swear it was coming from directly behind them. Oh, no. That sounds Voidy. (Also, that last sentence is worded kinda weirdly.) > "Oh!" exclaimed Anya. "New friends!" > Future historians did indeed agree almost universally that the summoning had been a terrible idea, but opinions sharply differed on who for. LUL. Well, the fact that there were creatures left to *be* historians, plus the fact that Anya's unlikely to find cultists and mindless monsters to be friend material, makes it clear to *me* who got the best result from the Anya summoning.

MinE

Kinda the worst for everyone but Mary. I assume Katie also saved her parents, so she’s kinda in the same position she is in in the main timeline.

MinE

Welp that was random, still thanks for the chapter.

Truly the best timeline :-D
