Seriously I think none of your main characters has gone through a series without massive changes to their bodies besides the villainous from villainous escapes and Eryn. Not counting the one from craftsman because he was given power by an eldritch being and in the what if he changed species. P.S Even Eryn got the main character treatment in Unbound Soul, so the villainous is really the only one who escaped her fate.

The link worked both ways. The dragon being a little bit Josse-ish meant that his soul was compatible with her body as well as hers with his. (It's worth a note that Steven didn't know he'd eaten his entire stash already. That's why he encouraged the dragon to eat the latest corpse.) As far as punishments go... Yes, Lindy would love to torture him until his mind broke and beyond. Steven is more practical, though, and sees no need to torture the dragon simply for the sake of revenge. He won't be telling Lindy about his fate. He wouldn't have resurrected him at all if it wasn't necessary to bring Josse back. The switch only worked because they were brought back as a pair. Now he's served that purpose, so... As for the queen, she's not as bad off as one might think. It wasn't hundreds of times she was killed, and it was all in a single session, in not much time. It wasn't as if torture was the primary purpose. A horrifying ordeal, but not one that broke her beyond repair. After the betrayal, she's going to have serious trust issues, but a lot of that can be overcome by the fact she's unexpectedly a dragon. There's a lot of mental reassurance available from that fact that should anyone prove particularly annoying, she can just eat them. Of course, the fact that she's thinking that way could be considered madness, of a sort; had she been unexpectedly dragoned _before_ the betrayal/torture, she probably wouldn't think like that. Original Josse would probably search for some way to be human again. Broken Josse will enjoy being at the top of the food chain.

Now she just needs to learn shapeshifting.

Ok, I didn't see that twist coming, bravo! Though, how would the dragon's soul get put in Her body? I get how the dragon infused itself with so much Princess goop that the Princess (now Queen) could take it over, but the Princess hasn't eaten anything even once in this whole story. As far as suitable punishments go, being enslaved in the body of the one he killed hundreds of times, powerless and imprisoned... It's an OK start, but he'll need to be suitably punished with years of babying, then perhaps some torture by Lindy when she learns whose soul is really in the Queen's body (she did torture the brother personally, so she has it in her). For the Queen, though, she must be incredibly confused and quite likely insane after everything she went through, all the betrayal (from her perspective, by almost everyone, including the priest, her bother, the guards, etc.), and the memories of hundreds of violent deaths and being eaten. Just the idea of now having the body of the very creature that violently ate you countless times could potentially result in either maddened glee (at stealing his power/body) or complete revulsion at her new form.
