Nicole Vaunt in The Timbers
🕑 Added 2016-07-12 19:01:35 +0000 UTC We always find a cute and cheap hotel in Denver. Its just one of those cities that I love to go to, but where I don't really know anybody, or don't know anybody that can host us, but its a great town. For me its the half way point. It means that the flat lands of Kansas have finally come to an end. That instead of staring dismally out the window at the unending inanity of grass and corn that I will now be looking out in wonderment at the Rockies. I'll be frequently stopping for photos of places that take my breath away every time.So I like to stop for a night in Denver. Wash off the midwest, and get a good nights sleep to prepare for what is to come.
But it can be hard to sleep. Some times I feel like a kid on Christmas eve. I bounce around the hotel room getting prepared, dumping cards, charging batteries, backing up shoots, and mapping out locations. Somewhere along the way the light always catches Nicole, and there is an impromptu photoshoot. I think its the magic of hotels. We stay in them so infrequently that being alone itself can be inspiration.
We can do something new, and we will probably never see this room again, or even this hotel. Its a weird feeling. A place is home for a night, and then you never return.
This was shot entirely with my Sigma 50mm F1.4

Yep! I tried shooting briefly with one of the lights in the room, but it just didn't look good.

I really love the photos the two of you take when staying in a hotel. They are beautiful, intimate, relaxed, and spontaneous. Thanks for sharing this with us.
