Damsel and Effy for Into The Wild
🕑 Added 2015-05-31 20:45:18 +0000 UTC We hit Colorado right as a bunch of storms and a cold front rolled into town. They started off as rain, but in the Rocky's the rain can turn to snow or hail pretty fast, and it did. Effy and I drove up to Horsetooth Reservoir and hiked up into the mountains away from the trails, so that we could shoot somewhere more private.This meant hiking up higher and into a colder windier part of the park. We shot a few things really quickly, since after about 15 minutes, she was too cold to keep posing, and my hands were too cold to keep pressing the shutter. These were all shot with my 85mm F1.4. After dealing with that crazy cold we went back to her place and shot a bunch of polaroids that I will be scanning and uploading when I get home.
After Denver we drove down to Paradise Cove and Garden of the God's to shoot with Damsel. It was sunny at Garden of the Gods, so we spent about 45 minutes after we found our spot waiting for a cloud to pass over the sun, so we could really quickly blast through a few poses we had worked out before hand.
Then it was off into the clouds and mountains to shoot at Paradise Cove. There was still snow on the ground at the parking space, but the light was absolutely beautiful just a mountain pass away. We climbed in and around beautiful rock formations, and a freezing snow melt streams to shoot until the sun set.
Even though we did these locations the same day the experience in shooting them was entirely different. Locations that are incredibly public are also incredibly difficult especially when its sunny. We spent maybe 3 whole minutes shooting at Garden of the Gods where as we spent nearly two hours at Paradise Cove walking around, shooting leisurely and just enjoying nature. Given the option I will always pick the latter for a shoot. The more remote the better.

Gorgeous shots Corwin. A shooting suggestion next time you are in New Mexico. About 45 miles from White Sands (Where I was yesterday) is a place in the Organ Mountains called dripping springs. It's a good 1.5 mile hike but once there would be a good place to shoot. There is also a place in NM called the City of Rocks that would be a great site. If you bring Vaunt to North Carolina in Mid-Oct I will show you where there are secluded trails and waterfalls in the Blue Ridge Mountains while the leaves are turning.
