Jon was not irrelevant. He is the reason everyone was even a little bit prepared for the war against the army of the dead. He is the reason Dany is there with her dragons and he is the reason Arya decided to come home. He is the reason the wildlings were united with everyone else in the battle. How is that irrelevant? Because he didn’t get the kill shot?

There’s a difference between shocking twists and and subversion of expectations for no reason. Prophesies are not BS, they are subject to interpretation and a character’s interpretation can be wrong. But the series’s name, a song of ice and fire, is not interpreted by any character, it’s the author’s summary of the story. More than anyone else’s, asoiaf is Jon’s story, and he was rendered irrelevant at it’s climax.

I get the people who say Jon should’ve been the one to kill the night king because of prophecy. But GRRM is all about how prophecies and “chosen ones” are BS. Rob was the eldest boy, destined to avenge his father, and then the red wedding happened. Tyrion was meant to be next to nothing as a dwarf but ends up hand of the queen to Danny. I like these subversions of tropes. If you want prophecies fulfilled, go read any other fantasy story.

Gotta love these comments trying to fit Arya killing the night king into some prophecy to make it make sense. It doesn’t make sense. Even though it was an insane moment and a good scene, the writing behind Arya killing him is lame. Should’ve been Jon, speaking of, why was he staring at the undead dragon waiting to die? He had no idea Arya was gonna leap out of nowhere at that moment. So he was gonna die? Just non sense writing

but a song of ice and fire isn’t parentage it’s like the title a dance with dragons, grrm has said dany and her dragons are the fire, and the others(things north of the wall) are the ice, asoiaf will be a battle between ice (white walkers) and fire (dragons)

I agree about Jon & Dany but how does Arya even fit into all this? She had nothing to do with the saving the world story until the last minute - her whole arc was about revenge against those who wronged her or her family, it just doesn't make sense that it's her story to finish.

I don't think Arya is the Prince who was promised. Melissandre said earlier that many people had a role to play (like Stannis, Berric, the hound ect.), and I think Arya just happened to be the one to fill the role of the one who delivered the final blow. Jon and Dany is, to me, still the Prince who was promised, because if they had not Come together as allies, they would have lost. That is the reason Rhaegar was so obsessed with Lyanna, because a prophecy (i don't remember if it was a different one or the same) told that fire and ice had to Come toghether.

What are you talking about the azor ahia prophecy is vey specific as is the story of the last hero which is the archetype for Jon’s character. The blade is to be tempered by the heart of a lion, the heart of the hero’s queen, and something else I can’t remember now. This and much more is specifically referenced in around the Stannis storyline. Jon not fighting the NK is a joke and cucks the audience of the climax to the main plot that originates in the prologue of book one. It is the central plot of dark vs. light, good vs. evil, and those elements are represented by Jon and the night king. So a symbolic single combat between them to usher in either the long night or the dawn would not be “simple” but symbolic. To say Jon vs. the night king is to simple is the same as saying Rhaegar falling on the Trident by Roberts war hammer is too simple. It’s not simple, it is the climax of all the story and symbolic in nature.

How many times do the books also have to explain to y’all that those prophecies are widely misinterpreted though? Those Azor Ahai stories are very metaphorical sounding to me. And y’all out here taking them literally is just kinda funny to me. You think GRRM is gonna make it that easy and simple for his audience to figure out what’s gonna happen? The prophecies can’t be amalgamated to fit a single character.m, rather many characters or factions that will play important roles in the endgame. A single hero? That sounds too cliche for GRRM. This isn’t your average fantasy series

Arya being azor ahia is bad, really bad. There are five books worth of material leading up to the fight for the dawn suggesting it is going to be Jon defeating the dead and not figuratively or symbolic but with Lightbringer in his hands. All of it was thrown out to the trash and burned because Dan and Dave didn't bother to read past the third book. ASOIAF is the best series in its genre, perhaps any genre, written in the past 100 and it was butchered. I understand the show is still good, and this episode isnt bad, but the climax of the story is not going to be Arya as Azor Ahia. It is possible it will be someone other than Jon but its not going to be Arya.

Episode 2 I just found bland and boring other than the knighting scene. Episode 3 is amazing, but the decision to make Arya kill NK is unforgivable for me, so rewatching is difficult.

It's not bad, period. To me - the hype was so unrealistically HIGH that a lot of people didnt realise how miles above every other show it was. No one can live up to expectations of pure perfection which is what some GoT fans had. Understandable. I loved S82 and S83. The music alone couldve carried it.

This episode is not as bad as I remember. Theon has one of the only arcs that isn't butchered from the books even though I think he lives in the books and becomes the Grey King. I just wish he got a better final action scene. This episode is a beautiful display of cinematography and looking back this one is not as bad as I remember.
