It's fine that you did. GT isn't canon in the slightest. If anything just look up the fights, they weren't bad since the same team that worked on Z kept working straight into GT. Toriyama wasn't giving them raw drawn material to work from but regardless, the animation skills stay great (considering the times of course)

I started on dragon ball, I only skipped GT watched a little of it, just got bored of it

Pay attention to Yamcha's eyes after Bulma tells him to open when he says nothing happened.
