[Genshin Impact] Chapter 296: Subtle Mastery
🕑 Added 2024-10-26 10:06:03 +0000 UTCThe essence that forms the "Lumine's Sword God" primarily consists of an ethereal concept like sword intent.
This explains why "she" can shift between being incorporeal and tangible.
Thus, aside from attacks like sword intent or pure spiritual force, physical attacks or elemental powers would struggle to harm "her."
However, "she" can influence the physical world, which is the annoying strength of attacks like sword intent and spiritual force.
The purple toad demon, realizing that its soundwave attack was ineffective, switched to a spiritual force assault, which indeed forced the "Lumine's Sword God" to halt its attack and switch to defense.
"She" swayed slightly, planting the long sword into the ground to resist the overwhelming pressure of the demon's spiritual power.
This demon, no doubt, was once a being comparable to an adeptus.
Even in its weakened state, its spiritual force was beyond what Nolan could match.
Soon, the spiritual storm subsided, and Nolan turned his gaze toward the toad demon, noticing its body was covered in sword wounds. Purple blood, mixed with venom, oozed from its injuries, giving it a horrifying and disgusting appearance.
"You destroyed my eye! You, a mere human, dared destroy my eye! Don’t think that just because of this seal I can't destroy you! Aaaahhh!"
The purple toad demon roared in fury, its remaining red eye causing the air in front of it to ripple like water. Suddenly, a red beam shot out at incredible speed.
No one knew!
It required both eyes for this innate ability to unleash its full power.
Now that it was incomplete, it couldn’t even produce half of its original strength!
Outside, Nolan, who was boasting to the girls about his great prowess, blinked. In the split second before he opened his eyes again, he saw a red light pass through the "Lumine's Sword God."
"She" looked down at her chest. A large golden hole had been melted away by the red beam, through which the scenery behind her was visible.
“Hiss~”
Nolan gasped.
Indeed, this was no ordinary ancient demon. Even sealed and unable to move, it could still unleash such powerful techniques.
Luckily, the "Lumine's Sword God" wasn’t completely shattered.
Otherwise, the mental backlash would have rendered him unable to summon "her" for a while, and his exploration of this domain would have to end.
Golden windwheel asters bloomed beneath the "Lumine's Sword God" once again.
With Nolan’s elemental burst and the Sword God trait activated, even injuries sustained by his non-human body could be healed.
However, it seemed like the red light contained some sort of poison, continuously corroding the wound, preventing the windwheel aster field from fully healing the "Lumine's Sword God."
Troublesome—was there a way to speed up the sword spirit’s healing process?
Nolan glanced at his character panel and noticed that the "Martial Art" skill was related to the body. If he maxed it out, perhaps it would unlock an extraordinary trait, something like enhancing vitality.
If he could merge that with the sword spirit, it might accelerate "her" healing.
As for why it wasn’t like Archery, which didn’t require maxing out before being integrated with the "Lumine's Sword God," the reason was simple: "Martial Arts" was a basic skill.
Unlike those secret techniques, it didn’t come with its own innate extraordinary trait.
Thus, it needed to be maxed out to unlock an extraordinary feature before it could be merged.
He wasn’t sure if this would work, but it was worth a try.
Adventure EXP - 4400
Martial Arts Lv.2 (0/200) → Martial Arts Lv.10 (Subtle Mastery)
[Subtle Mastery: Your combat skills have reached the pinnacle, allowing you to have perfect control over every muscle in your body. Strength follows intent, and you can be considered a grandmaster.]
Uh…
Nolan was a little disappointed. While this trait was strong, it wasn’t what he had hoped for and didn’t have much effect on the "Lumine's Sword God."
After all, it wasn’t like he could make "her" throw away the sword and start punching things. That would be completely pointless.
Still, it would be quite useful for himself.
Though, in battle, he rarely engaged in close combat.
Then again, combat skills didn’t have to be limited to the battlefield—using them on his own bed could be fun too…
Nolan shook his head, forcing those stray thoughts away.
He refocused his attention on the "Lumine's Sword God." Since there was no way to accelerate the healing process, the only option was to keep her standing in the windwheel aster field and maintain a balance between the two forces.
At this point, the purple demon was also shocked:
"Impossible! Even if that’s some kind of spiritual embodiment, it should have dissipated after suffering such a serious injury!"
After realizing that the golden figure before it was likely a spiritual entity, the demon had used its red poisonous beam, which had a spiritual corrosion effect. Yet, it still couldn’t defeat this human.
Damn it! Was it really because one of its eyes had been destroyed?
Furious once more, the purple toad demon decided that even if it damaged itself in the process, it would annihilate this human!
Its remaining eye began to ripple again, like water.
This time, Nolan was prepared. A translucent golden barrier quickly expanded, covering the entire body of the "Lumine's Sword God."
The red poisonous light struck again.
Its speed was just as overwhelming as before, but when it hit the golden shield, it didn’t immediately pierce through and dissolve it.
The red light sizzled as it made contact with the golden barrier.
The shield's defensive effects were inherited from a past elemental combat technique, so while it was effective against physical and elemental attacks, it wasn’t as effective against this strange kind of assault.
But that didn’t matter.
As long as the shield could hold, the demon—sealed in place and unable to move—would eventually be defeated!
Nolan manipulated the "Lumine's Sword God," continuing to swing the long sword. This time, he also utilized the splitting characteristic from the "Divine Gen Archery" technique.
With one slash, the golden sword energy split into three, then those three split into nine. Nine was Nolan's current limit; going beyond that required too much energy.
The cost-benefit ratio wasn’t ideal.
Although he had the "Battery Body," which acted as an extra "energy bar," his cells also had an energy storage limit—roughly double his natural capacity.
While it didn’t seem like much, this limit would increase as he grew stronger. It could substitute for any energy expenditure, including stamina and mental power.
Moreover, it allowed him to absorb various forms of energy while simultaneously outputting it. If he could balance both, he’d essentially have unlimited energy.
It was truly overpowered.
At this moment, Nolan unleashed all the energy stored in his "Battery Body," recklessly firing off sword energy that traversed space, striking the demon.
The toad demon had no way to evade and was forced to endure the attacks head-on.
It tried everything—poison shields, various demonic abilities—but nothing worked.
Each slash of sword energy was unstoppable. No matter how strong the barrier, it would leave a sword mark, and after several hits, the shield shattered. The demon had no choice but to rely on its body to withstand the attacks.
Once it was reduced to relying on its body, its defeat was only a matter of time.
“Damn it!”
Glaring at the countless sword marks covering its body, the toad demon unleashed a furious burst of spiritual power, targeting the mysterious spiritual entity that had appeared out of nowhere.
If it didn’t act now, it would be dead within a minute!
Even Sea Gazer back in the day couldn’t kill it—only seal it. And now it was about to fall to a mere human, one whose true form hadn’t even appeared?!
“Impossible!”
The demon roared with hatred, overextending its soul to unleash a near-physical spiritual attack.
Nolan was caught off guard by such an attack and had no choice but to use even more energy to maintain the windwheel aster field, the golden barrier, and the sword energy assault from the "Lumine's Sword God."
But the consequence of this was that the energy stored in his "Battery Body" was quickly depleted.
Without any replenishment, he began to burn through his own stamina and mental power.
If this continued, he might collapse from exhaustion before the demon fell!
Thinking quickly, Nolan turned to Shenhe and the others and said, “I’m in a bit of a bind here. I’m running low on energy and can’t keep fighting that demon much longer. I need your help.”
“Oh? Who was it that was bragging just now about beating it?” Hu Tao said with a playful smile, her plum-blossom eyes filled with amusement as she looked at Nolan.
“Haha, so how should we help you, Mr. Nolan?” Yun Jin laughed lightly, covering her mouth as she spoke.
It was worth noting that in this place, they couldn’t even use their elemental powers.
“Grab my hand and try to transfer your elemental energy to me. It’ll ‘charge me up’—uh, replenish the energy I’ve used up.”
Nolan thought for a moment before explaining.
“Hey, even a fool knows that different elemental energies react with each other! What if you get hurt? Besides, no one can transfer their elemental power to someone else,” Hu Tao stood up, arms akimbo, looking down at Nolan as if he were an idiot.
Shenhe and Yun Jin both nodded slightly in agreement.
This was common knowledge. Even ordinary people without Vision knew that different elemental energies couldn’t coexist like that!
“Don’t worry, just trust me. You know I can use two different elements—it’s not that strange, right?”
Nolan raised his right hand, channeling wind energy through his thumb and index finger, while water energy flowed through his other three fingers.
The concept of the "Battery Body" was too complicated to explain, so he kept it simple for the sake of efficiency.
“Hmm, true. You and Lumine can both use two elements,” Shenhe said, recalling the fact.
“Fine, whatever. But if something goes wrong, don’t blame us!” Hu Tao shifted her stance, lowering her hands and gripping Nolan's wrist.
Seeing this, Shenhe and Yun Jin also placed their soft, pale hands on his right arm.
“Alright, you can release your elemental power now,” Nolan smiled and nodded when they finally agreed to help.
The girls didn’t say anything, but they began trying to release their elemental energy.
However, something unexpected still happened.
Even though they were holding his hand and had direct contact with him, most of the elemental energy dissipated into the chaotic natural elemental forces around them.
Only about one-tenth of the energy, the portion that hadn’t yet dispersed, managed to reach Nolan.
“What should we do now?” Hu Tao asked, touching her cheek with her free hand.
“The reason the energy is dispersing might be because the contact area is too small. If we increase the contact area, it should improve the efficiency of the energy transfer.”
Nolan thought for a moment and then suggested.
“Increase the contact area? How?” Yun Jin asked, puzzled. They were only touching with their palms, which indeed didn’t provide much contact.
“Uh... How about... you guys hug me?”
Nolan, looking slightly embarrassed, made his suggestion.
