[Frog] Chapter 91: The Disliked Mjolnir
🕑 Added 2024-09-19 03:47:30 +0000 UTC"Red Queen, are we almost there?" Alan asked as he flew through the air.
"We're just 20 kilometers away, Master," Red Queen replied.
Alan increased his speed once again, shooting through the night like a meteor. This scene was noticed by Heimdall, who was observing Midgard.
"What... is that?" Heimdall wondered in disbelief, watching the golden armor flying at incredible speed. "When did something like this appear on Midgard?"
Meanwhile, Alan suddenly stopped mid-flight, hovering in the air.
"What's wrong, Master?" Red Queen asked.
"Nothing, Red Queen," Alan replied, turning his head to gaze at the endless stars. "Someone is watching me!"
Instantly, Alan guessed who it was—Heimdall, the all-seeing guardian who could watch over the Nine Realms. Since there was no malicious intent, Alan resumed his flight toward the location of Thor's hammer.
Back in Asgard, Heimdall was stunned. The golden armor had stopped and turned to look in his direction. Cold sweat broke out on Heimdall's forehead.
Could it be... did he notice me?
Heimdall reassured himself. It was impossible—there were countless light-years between Asgard and Midgard. Without the Bifrost, even with space-jumping technology, it would take several jumps to reach Asgard. How could anyone detect him from such an infinite distance?
"Impossible... absolutely impossible," Heimdall muttered, trying to calm down. But his palms were sweating nervously. In his thousand years of watching, no one had ever noticed him.
As the golden armor turned away, Heimdall finally breathed a sigh of relief. "I knew it. There's no way someone that powerful could come from a place like Midgard."
"What are you looking at?" Odin’s voice startled Heimdall from behind.
"My King, do you need something?"
"I came to check on your observation of Thor on Midgard, and the hammer," Odin said.
Nodding, Heimdall continued to observe, but Odin had more to say. "I also came to tell you something. Later, after Loki 'assassinates' me, he will surely falsely claim my will and crown himself king."
"Yes, that's exactly what he'd do," Heimdall replied, waiting for Odin to continue.
"And then he will order you to deny anyone access to the Bifrost to help Thor."
"He would certainly try that."
"So, what do you want me to do?" Heimdall asked.
"Do nothing. When the Thor's subordinates ask for help, simply transport them. They are still loyal to him."
"I understand, My King," Heimdall nodded.
"Alright, I’m off to await Loki’s assassination. Remember, act convincingly," Odin said.
Suddenly, Heimdall had another question. "Yes, King!"
Odin turned back to him.
"If someone on Midgard can lift Mjolnir, the hammer you enchanted, what should we do?"
Odin raised an eyebrow. "That enchantment was primarily aimed at Thor. If someone else manages to lift it, it’s not a bad thing."
"Thor must understand that being the God of Thunder is not about the hammer."
Heimdall bowed. "Understood, King."
"Don’t worry. There are few on Midgard who can lift Mjolnir," Odin's voice faded as he walked away.
With Odin gone, Heimdall’s vision turned back to Earth. He saw the golden armor now standing before Thor’s hammer.
"So, his target really was Mjolnir," Heimdall thought, watching as the figure examined the hammer, which had left a small crater in the ground.
"This is the Mew Mew Hammer?" Alan mused, using one of Mjolnir's nicknames.
Looking at Mjolnir, which had created a small pit, Alan wondered aloud, "I wonder if I can lift it."
Alan had long wanted to test if he could lift the legendary Mjolnir, enchanted by Odin so that only certain people could pick it up. According to the original plot, besides Thor and Odin, only Hela and Captain America could easily wield it.
Lightning sparked as Alan reached out. "Interesting."
He could feel that Mjolnir seemed to... welcome him? The sensation was strange. Slowly, Alan lifted the hammer. It was heavy but manageable.
As for why he could lift it? Alan figured it was because the Emperor Armor he wore represented the power of the Law of the World itself. Could the Law of the World fail to lift a mere hammer?
Ridiculous!
After channeling lightning through Mjolnir, Alan swung it forcefully. The hammer’s lightning seemed to follow his command, striking in the direction he aimed, leaving deep craters in the ground.
After examining the hammer, Alan’s only assessment was: "Mediocre."
Casually, he tossed Mjolnir to the ground. "I expected more from a weapon forged by Odin. No wonder Hela could crush it with one hand."
Disappointed by Mjolnir’s performance, Alan teleported away.
Back at the Bifrost, Heimdall stood frozen in place. He had just witnessed the golden armor not only lift Mjolnir but also command its lightning. Then, to Heimdall's shock, the figure had tossed the hammer aside as if it were a mere burden.
As the guardian of the Bifrost, Heimdall had not only sharp vision but acute hearing as well. He had clearly heard the figure’s disdainful comment about the hammer: "Mediocre."
In Asgard, Mjolnir was considered one of the most powerful weapons, especially now with Odin's enchantment on it.
"I must report to the King immediately!" Heimdall thought. Even though Odin had said it didn’t matter if someone lifted the hammer, Heimdall felt that this bordered on blasphemy against Asgard’s king.
He rushed to Odin’s chambers.
---
Meanwhile, in S.H.I.E.L.D. headquarters, Nick Fury was equally stunned. He had clearly seen the golden armor lift Mjolnir and unleash massive destruction with just one strike.
The hammer controlled the natural force of lightning—a power modern scientists had yet to harness. Yet, the golden armor had discarded it like an unwanted toy.
Moreover, Fury could tell that the figure had been dismissive of the hammer, tossing it aside as if it were an ill-fitting tool, rather than a mighty weapon.
But this only made Fury realize Mjolnir’s true power. If the golden armor didn’t want it, Fury did!
"Hill, notify the local authorities immediately. Secure the area, and don't let anyone else near the site until S.H.I.E.L.D. arrives."
"Understood, Director!"
"And tell Coulson to speed up. If he’s not there by tomorrow morning, he might as well resign."
...
In one of the palaces of Asgard.
In the middle of the palace, there was a box emitting a blue glow. All the people of Asgard knew what it represented—the symbol of the Frost Giants' defeat by Odin, containing the power left behind by the Frost Giant King.
Slowly, the figure's appearance changed to an icy blue, and his once normal eyes turned blood-red.
From behind came Odin's voice, "Loki, stop."
The man standing before the box was none other than Loki, the God of Mischief and Odin's second son.
Loki turned around, and at that moment, he fully accepted the truth about his identity. He was not a prince of Asgard but the son of the Frost Giant King.
He was merely a trophy Odin had brought back after his victory over the Frost Giants long ago.
Upon learning this truth, even Loki, the God of Mischief and Deception, found it hard to accept. He began to question Odin.
Outside the palace, Heimdall stood, listening intently to Loki's accusations. He no longer seemed like someone reporting urgent news to Odin, but more like someone eavesdropping on a juicy piece of gossip.
As Loki continued to question Odin, something unexpected happened. Odin’s face suddenly paled, and he appeared to be in a weakened state.
But Heimdall knew better—there was no way Odin would be genuinely weak at this moment. He was putting on an act.
"Well, well!" Heimdall thought to himself. "Is this the so-called assassination attempt?"
Loki, watching his father collapse in pain, shouted, "Guards! Is anyone there? Help me!"
Heimdall stood at the palace door, unsure whether to enter or stay outside. After a moment of hesitation, he made up his mind and walked in.
When Loki saw that Heimdall had arrived, he wasn't suspicious. Despite being furious at Odin for keeping secrets from him for so long, there was still some familial bond.
"Heimdall, come help me! Something’s wrong with my father!"
"I’m coming!" Heimdall replied quickly.
As Heimdall carried the frail Odin on his back, Odin, with a sly glint in his eyes, subtly tapped Heimdall's back, signaling him. Heimdall immediately understood.
"Prince Loki, I'll take the King back to his chambers. You go inform the sorcerers to check on his condition."
Worried about Odin, Loki didn't think twice and ran off to find help. Two guards arrived shortly after, but Heimdall sent them away.
Once they were alone, Odin opened one eye slightly. "Heimdall, why are you here?"
"King, just now..." Heimdall briefly summarized what had happened.
Odin chuckled, "It seems Midgard is becoming more interesting. Take me back to my chambers for now. We’ll deal with this later."
As he carried the pretending-to-be-sleeping Odin back, Heimdall started to wonder if the person on his back was really Odin or just another one of Loki’s tricks.
“This old man... he’s so sly!”
With no choice, Heimdall carried Odin back to his chambers.
Meanwhile, on Earth, somewhere in New Mexico...
Two young women stepped out of their car to check on the man they had just hit.
The blond man looked at them and declared, “You mortals dare to wield the power of thun...!”
Before he could finish, fearing he might be drunk and dangerous, one of the women quickly tasered him, knocking him out cold.
The other two stared at her.
“He was just too loud...” she muttered.
And with that, the strange encounter continued...
