[Frog] Chapter 74: Do You Know How To....?
🕑 Added 2024-09-07 08:39:03 +0000 UTC“Boss, the transactions at several locations are proceeding smoothly,” a subordinate reported, “So far, there haven’t been any unexpected issues.”
In the hot spring, Kingpin nodded in satisfaction upon hearing this. As long as these businesses were running smoothly, he remained the undisputed king of New York's underground.
Kingpin let out a cold laugh. “Good, you can leave now. Tell everyone to keep a low profile for a while and not cause me any trouble.”
The subordinate nodded lightly, “Understood, Boss.”
Seeing that the subordinate hadn’t left yet, Kingpin asked, “Is there something else?”
“Boss... about the Stark Industries stock that Alan Ford holds—should we still go after it?”
Kingpin narrowed his eyes, realizing that the day's trivial matters had made him forget about that issue. “Yes, go after it. Send more men tomorrow.”
“And remember, bring him to me. I want to personally sign the transfer contract with him.”
The subordinate smiled, “Got it, Boss. We’ll bring him to you tomorrow.”
“Good. Now, keep an eye on the transactions. If anything goes wrong, alert everyone to pull out quickly.”
“Even if it means dying, don’t get caught,” Kingpin ordered.
If those responsible for the transactions were captured, the consequences would be disastrous.
“Don’t worry, Boss. We know what to do.”
“Then I won’t disturb you any longer,” the subordinate said as he left.
Kingpin nodded and, after the man left, closed his eyes again, sinking back into the hot spring to enjoy himself.
After leaving the room, the subordinate couldn’t help but feel a rush of heat when recalling the scene in the hot spring.
“Damn it, every time I come here to report, I have to watch him enjoy himself.”
“No way, I need to have some fun too.”
“The transaction has been going smoothly so far; there shouldn't be any problems. After all, there haven't been any issues for years.”
“Tonight will be no different.”
With that thought, the subordinate grinned slyly and walked off in another direction.
...
“These are top-quality goods today,” said the leader of the workers, pointing confidently at the women in the container. “So the price is naturally higher.”
“Boss also mentioned that with Interpol cracking down hard, you’ve got no choice but to source from us.”
Almost the entire world’s human trafficking network now had to pass through Kingpin’s hands. With a monopoly, raising prices was only natural. As long as there was profit to be made, the desperados in front of him wouldn’t care much.
After the translation, the faces of the men in camouflage became grim. The leader muttered something in a language that was incomprehensible to the others, and a man behind him put on a mask and entered the container.
Daredevil, who had been observing, frowned as he heard the terrified screams of women from within the container. His grip on his staff tightened, veins bulging, but it wasn’t time to intervene yet.
At the moment, the women were still safe. The man in camouflage had simply torn off the clothes of a few women to check their condition.
After a while, the man emerged from the container and whispered something to his leader. The leader nodded, and after the translator conveyed the message, both sides shook hands with satisfaction.
The deal was made.
Up above, Daredevil knew this was the best time to strike. The moment the deal was sealed was when they were most vulnerable.
With a flick of his baton, it extended into a long staff. “Tonight, I don’t intend to hold back.”
Just as Daredevil was about to jump down and make his move, the sound of police sirens suddenly blared from all around.
Daredevil narrowed his eyes. “What’s going on? Why are the police here at this time?”
“If a large-scale shootout starts, the people in the container will be in danger.”
Although he had sharp senses, Daredevil had been focused on the container and hadn’t noticed the police hiding nearby.
Now, fully extending his senses, Daredevil’s face changed. “So many people have shown up?”
A large group of detectives rushed out from the darkness, surrounding everyone involved in the transaction.
“Don’t move! We’re NYPD detectives. You’re all under arrest!”
As both groups reached for their guns, dozens of laser sights instantly lit up their bodies. In addition, a squad of detectives, all pointing their pistols directly at them, was closing in.
Resist?
There was no point in resisting!
They knew that if they made another move, they’d be riddled with bullets in an instant. This was America—if the detectives felt their lives were in danger, they wouldn’t hesitate to open fire.
“Drop your weapons now! I’ll count to three!”
George, holding a shotgun, aimed at the two groups before him. Ever since taking down the Lizard (Dr. Connors), he found using a shotgun particularly satisfying.
“Three...”
“Two...”
The two leaders exchanged a glance, and in that moment, they both understood the inevitable outcome.
Without hesitation, both leaders threw their guns to the ground.
The men behind their leaders, seeing that they had already surrendered, quickly threw down their weapons as well. They knew that if they didn’t, they might really die. But if they did, there was a chance they could live.
Although they were outlaws engaged in illegal business, who among them really wanted to die if they could survive?
George, noticing how cooperative the group was, exchanged a glance with the inspector beside him and then signaled the other officers to move in and tie everyone up.
Up above, Matt Murdock (Daredevil) was watching, utterly stunned. Since becoming Daredevil, it was the first time he felt like a mere spectator. The situation had resolved itself without him lifting a finger. He had expected a fierce gunfight, but instead, everything was over so quickly.
After everyone had been captured, a detective rushed over. “Chief, Inspector, you need to take a look at this,” he said.
George and the inspector exchanged a glance before heading over to one of the containers. When they saw what was inside and smelled the foul stench, their expressions turned grim.
The container was filled with women, mostly African-American, followed by Caucasian women, and then Asian women. From the moment they were placed inside, they had eaten, drunk, and relieved themselves all within the container. The foul odor of fermentation hung thick in the air.
“Is this all Kingpin's doing?” George asked, looking at the inspector.
The inspector nodded, “Yes, based on the clues and information we’ve gathered, it all points to Kingpin.”
George’s face darkened. Such horrors were happening right under his nose. If it weren’t for Interpol contacting him today, he might have remained completely unaware of this.
Noticing George’s change in mood, the inspector patted him on the shoulder. “Don’t worry, as long as we get solid evidence, we can take him down.”
George turned to his radio and ordered, “Notify all hospitals in New York City—we need support here.”
Under George’s direction, the follow-up work proceeded smoothly.
Meanwhile, similar events were unfolding across New York. The police in various locations simultaneously raided and dismantled numerous crime scenes. The operations were surprisingly successful, with hardly a shot fired as they brought down these hard-to-crack criminal rings.
The precinct chiefs everywhere were grinning from ear to ear. With these successes, they had easily met their annual targets.
Kingpin, having finished his soak in the hot spring and now lying on a large bed, was in an extremely good mood. So far, none of his men had reported any issues, which meant that tonight’s transactions had gone off without a hitch.
He chuckled to himself. “Since I’m in such a good mood tonight, I’ll have some fun with you all.”
Soon, the sound of joyful revelry echoed from Kingpin’s room. The men standing guard outside shifted uncomfortably upon hearing these sounds.
But there was nothing they could do—after all, the person inside was their boss. So they continued to stand guard.
Elsewhere, in an upscale restaurant...
After watching the sunset, Alan, Gwen, and Pikachu arrived at a restaurant at the foot of the mountain for dinner. Alan wore headphones, listening to the intercepted reports of police operations across the city, courtesy of the Red Queen. He smiled in satisfaction.
It wouldn’t be long before Kingpin experienced the feeling of falling from paradise into hell.
Across the table, Gwen was holding Pikachu in her arms. Taking advantage of the moment when no one was paying attention, she sneaked a piece of fruit off the table and handed it to Pikachu. “Here, try this, Pikachu.”
Pikachu took the fruit and put it in its mouth, chewing for a moment before grimacing. “Pika...”
“Alan, what’s Pikachu saying?”
“He says it’s too sour.”
Gwen laughed, “Lemons are supposed to be sour. Here, try this cherry instead.”
“Pika...chu...” Pikachu’s ears wiggled in delight as it enjoyed the cherry.
Watching the two little ones finish their meal and start playing, Alan asked, “Gwen, are you full?”
“Mhm, I’m full. How about you, Pikachu?”
“Pika...chu...” Pikachu, not quite done yet, reached out a tiny paw and grabbed another cherry from the table, popping it into its mouth.
After finishing, Pikachu said, “Pika... Pika...”
“Alright then, let’s go.”
Outside the restaurant, Alan walked Gwen to the car. As they reached the vehicle, Gwen suddenly remembered a question she had discussed with her friends back in school. She looked at Alan, who noticed her gaze.
“What’s up? Do I have something on my face?” Alan asked before taking a sip of mineral water.
Gwen smiled and asked, “Alan, do you know how to do that in car?”
“Pffft...” Alan spat out the water in surprise.
Seeing Alan’s strange reaction, Pikachu looked confused. “Pika? Pika?”
People coming and going around them also glanced over curiously, whispering among themselves.
“Young people these days really know how to have fun.”
“With such a nice car, isn’t it a bit of a waste?”
“Mind your own business; it’s their relationship.”
“Honey, where’s our car...?”
Gwen noticed the odd looks from those around them but hadn’t yet realized what she had said wrong.
She was about to ask again when Alan quickly stepped forward, covering her mouth. “Gwen, tell me honestly, who taught you that?”
Gwen was taken aback. “What do you mean, who taught me?”
...
“It's about what you just asked.”
“You mean the car thing?”
Gwen, noticing Alan’s serious expression, lowered her voice and asked.
Alan nodded. If he found out who taught Gwen such things, he would definitely make sure they regretted it—except for himself, of course.
“It was when I was in school, and I heard other girls talking about it. I asked them what it meant.”
“They said I’d understand if I found a boyfriend with a car.”
“When I saw your car just now, it reminded me of it.”
Gwen recalled with an innocent look, then asked, “Alan, what does it actually mean?”
“Is it something bad?”
Alan hesitated but decided he needed to explain it to Gwen. It would be awkward if she asked someone else.
He leaned in close to Gwen's ear, and Pikachu, curious about the gossip, perked up its little ears. “Pika...”
As Alan explained, Gwen’s face grew increasingly red. By the end, she buried her face in Pikachu’s head and quickly got into the passenger seat, not daring to say a word.
She was utterly embarrassed!
She had been talking so loudly just a moment ago!
Alan found Gwen’s reaction amusing, but then glanced at his car and felt a bit regretful. It seemed like this car wasn’t suitable for that kind of activity. He would need to get a more appropriate one sometime.
“Alan, let’s go. I want to go home.”
Gwen, with her face still flushed, urged Alan. She didn’t want to stay here for another second; she was mortified.
Alan took the driver's seat. “Alright, I’ll take you home.”
This time, Alan drove slowly. The night view of New York was quite nice, and they could enjoy it through the window.
Gwen, with her head down, pouted and looked at Alan.
Seeing Gwen’s cute expression, Alan curiously asked, “What’s wrong?”
“You should have reminded me earlier.”
“Miss Gwen, I didn’t know you’d suddenly ask such a question.”
Gwen thought about what had just happened and realized that it was indeed sudden. Alan hadn’t had time to react.
“Hmph!”
But that didn’t stop Gwen from turning her head away, still annoyed.
Pikachu looked at Gwen, puzzled. “Pika... Pika... Chu?”
“What’s Pikachu saying?”
Alan hesitated, “Do you really want to know?”
“Of course, otherwise how would I know what Pikachu is saying?”
“Um... Pikachu is asking what you were talking about earlier.”
Gwen’s face turned bright red again. “Ah...”
“Pikachu, remember!”
“Don’t ask about that again, okay?”
...
