[Superman] Chapter 169: Merging with the Speed Force
🕑 Added 2024-07-22 03:19:01 +0000 UTC“Is this Speed Force enough to open a temporal gateway to a specific universe?”
Seeing the slight disappointment on their faces, Peter understood what this meant for them.
At this moment, for all of them, the Speed Force was incredibly precious—an energy that could not be regenerated in a short period.
Even within the entire multiverse, there was only this small amount available.
The rarity of the Speed Force meant they had to cherish this precious opportunity. The Speed Force they had might only be sufficient to open a gateway to one universe.
As the experiment reached its final step, all the theories on integrating the Speed Force with the Multiverse Translocator had been jointly perfected.
The final step of opening the Speed Force universe gateway could only be personally confirmed by Peter.
“Are we ready to start opening the gateway to that universe, Mr. Superman?”
Reed approached Peter with a look of excitement and impatience.
Just the simple understanding of the multiverse had already opened their eyes.
Moreover, they were about to witness true cosmic history by opening a gateway to an unknown universe beyond the multiverse. It was impossible not to feel excitement and anticipation.
“Are you all... completely ready?”
At this moment, Peter’s expression turned serious as he asked in a deep voice.
“Don’t worry, Mr. Superman. After thorough testing by each of us, we can confidently confirm that the experiment, in theory, will be a success.”
Facing Peter’s question, the middle-aged Reed from the future universe spoke with a calm and confident tone that made one believe in his words.
It was no wonder he was able to establish one of the most powerful tech companies in that universe.
“Then, everyone…”
Peter’s tone paused slightly as he scanned the faces of the various Reeds from different universes with a serious gaze.
Finally, a determined look crossed his face, and he said without hesitation, “Let’s go and save the infinite multiverse together!”
“Oh yeah, that’s great!”
“That’s right, we are about to save our universe!”
“For the harmony of the universe…”
At that moment, as Peter confirmed, the faces of the crowd were filled with intense excitement and anticipation.
Even Reed, who had become somewhat numb to the endless zombie threats, had a slightly stiff smile on his face.
...
With Peter agreeing to proceed with the final step of opening the gateway to the DC Universe, the entire space station instantly went into the highest state of alert.
All other experimental facilities and personnel received notifications to temporarily halt their research and exploration and return to Earth via the portal.
In less than ten minutes, everyone who received the notification had left the space station using the portal or handheld teleportation devices.
“Reed, I don't know what you've been working on lately, but I believe in you and Mr. Superman. You will not let me down!”
At this moment, Susan was bidding farewell to Reed. With her sharp mind, she had long realized that Reed was involved in a highly secretive special experiment. She even suspected that this experiment might be crucial to the safety of their universe.
During this time, she sensed Reed's urgency, as if stopping even for a moment could bring about the end of the world.
“Susan, I will not betray your trust! We will succeed!”
Reed's eyes were filled with gratitude as he gazed deeply at Susan. In the different universes, he had seen his future and understood that the person who would always be by his side was right in front of him.
Soon, all personnel had evacuated the space station. What had once been a bustling hub now stood empty, with only the still-operating experimental devices remaining.
“Don't worry, we will succeed. I believe in you.”
Peter watched Susan leave under Reed’s loving gaze, then stepped forward, patted Reed on the shoulder, and spoke with trust and encouragement.
“Thank you, sir.”
Reed knew very well that this experiment was not just about opening a gateway between other individual universes within the multiverse. It was even more challenging than the previous tests of the multiverse translocator and came with unknown risks. After all, the universe they were connecting to had different rules from their own.
To ensure everyone's safety and maintain confidentiality, they had to activate the highest level of security measures. Moreover, the energy required for the upcoming experiment was immense, possibly exhausting all the energy reserves of the space station. At that point, there might not be enough energy to maintain life-support systems outside the laboratory.
“Let's go. They might already be getting impatient!”
Peter motioned to Reed, and the two turned and headed back to the multiverse conference room.
...
“Universe Translocator self-check complete, no issues detected...”
“All experimental devices have been checked and are functioning properly.”
“Speed Force inspection complete, condition stable!”
...
Soon after, everything for the experiment was thoroughly checked and ready. Everything was set for the final phase of the experiment.
At this moment, everyone’s faces were filled with excitement and anticipation, but deep down, there was also a trace of concern.
“Well then…”
Seeing the anticipation on everyone’s faces, Peter’s expression grew serious as he prepared to give the order to start the experiment.
“Wait, sir, perhaps we should wait a bit longer before opening the cosmic gateway…”
Just as Peter was about to speak, the normally quiet Reed from the Zombie Universe suddenly interrupted, halting the start of the experiment.
“What’s wrong?”
At this moment, everyone’s attention focused on him, their expressions puzzled, and Peter directly asked.
“I don’t think now is the best time to start the experiment. The Speed Force we have is extremely limited, and if the experiment fails, we will inevitably deplete it.”
“And we will lose all hope…”
Facing the group's questions, Reed from the Zombie Universe showed no sign of tension. His slightly expressionless face revealed the reason for his interruption.
“So, do you have a solution?”
Peter was well aware that failure was part of the process if the experiment were to succeed. They were simply trying to increase the chances of success as close to 100% as possible.
However, when dealing with an unknown universe, even Peter couldn't perceive everything. Some things had to be left to fate.
“I do have a method or rather a suggestion.”
Reed paused slightly and, under the curious gazes of everyone, continued, “That is to create more Speed Force!”
“What? Create Speed Force? Is that really possible?”
“Isn’t this a special energy that doesn’t even exist in our multiverse? Can we really create such energy ourselves?”
Upon hearing Reed from the Zombie Universe, some people couldn’t help but voice their doubts. After all, this was a special energy from another universe, possibly even the fundamental source of that universe’s reality.
It seemed nearly impossible for humanity to produce such a unique energy.
Peter’s gaze shifted to Reed from his own universe, noticing that he also looked somewhat surprised by Reed from the Zombie Universe’s proposal.
Peter knew that they had long considered creating new Speed Force, so it shouldn’t be something Reed brought up.
“How long do you think it would take for you to create new Speed Force?”
Peter asked with a serious expression, fixing his gaze on Reed.
“Perhaps a few years… or maybe it will never be created!”
Reed answered calmly, with a somewhat vague estimate. Having experienced the Zombie Crisis, he had grown indifferent to death.
“A few years? That’s too long; we might not have that much time!”
Peter thought for a moment and then shook his head slowly, indicating that they did not have that much time.
“Yes, Mr. Peter, I had previously proposed the idea of creating new Speed Force, and I have considered it. Unfortunately, this special energy has never appeared in our universe before, and replicating or creating it is as difficult as creating a new universe…”
Taking over Peter’s words, Reed from this universe spoke slowly, sharing his thoughts.
“Even so, I still stand by my suggestion. Of course, I respect your decision!”
Reed from the Zombie Universe’s expression remained unchanged as he spoke. In truth, he had a personal motive; upon seeing the Speed Force, he felt he had found a way to save his own universe.
However, with only this small amount of Speed Force, if it were used to save their universe, it would not be enough to save the endless multiverse.
So, from the beginning, he had been thinking of a solution.
Soon, he arrived at a relatively simple solution: creating new Speed Force. Unfortunately, he was now aware that the others would not stop the experiment because of his suggestion. After all, the proposal seemed almost impossible to achieve and would require a lot of time.
...
In the end, they did not follow the suggestion from Reed of the Zombie Universe to spend a lot of time creating new Speed Force.
"Since no one has any other objections, let's begin the experiment now!"
Seeing that no one else stopped him, Peter announced the immediate start of the experiment without hesitation.
"Prepare to integrate the Speed Force into the multiverse shuttle's energy source!"
The first step in starting the experiment was to integrate the Speed Force with the energy source of the multiverse shuttle.
This was also the most crucial step of the entire experiment.
Only by successfully merging the Speed Force with the energy source could they attempt to open the portal to the DC Universe.
Otherwise, everything would be in vain!
As Reed operated, he slowly released the constantly flickering Speed Force from its container.
He then guided it to merge with the energy source of the multiverse shuttle.
Everyone's faces were solemn as they knew this was the most critical step.
They also understood what failure would mean.
At this moment, everyone was highly focused, waiting for the moment the Speed Force would merge with the energy source.
As the constraints disappeared, the Speed Force, like a sprite freed from its cage, began to leap and rush towards the energy center through a specially created particle conduit.
"Now, cut the conduit immediately!"
As the Speed Force left the conduit and truly merged with the energy, Reed, who was highly concentrated, shouted instantly.
Almost simultaneously with his shout, another Reed cut off the special particle conduit transporting the Speed Force.
The next moment, the Speed Force, seemingly sensing the trick, started to wildly surge through the entire energy apparatus.
The rapidly leaping Speed Force instantly disrupted the flow speed and efficiency of the energy in the device.
The energy apparatus emitted light that fluctuated between dim and bright.
The alternation frequency of light and dark varied, sometimes rapid, sometimes slow.
"Beep beep beep... Energy system anomaly, please disconnect immediately..."
With the violent fluctuation of energy, red warning messages appeared on various connected device screens.
The screens also began to flicker like the energy apparatus, intermittently dimming and brightening.
It seemed like a sign that the system was about to crash.
"Deploy the particle field immediately to regulate the energy flow rate..."
They had anticipated such a situation before starting the experiment and had made preparations.
The special particle field was immediately activated, guiding the erratic Speed Force within the energy apparatus to flow according to the energy frequency and speed.
Gradually, under everyone's tense gaze,
the previously flickering energy apparatus began to stabilize.
The flashing warnings on the device screens gradually disappeared, and everything seemed to return to calm.
"Great!"
Seeing this, everyone felt very excited.
As everything stabilized, it indicated they had safely passed the first phase of integration.
Next would be the actual fusion process.
"Activate the superluminal particle accelerator at full power to completely disperse the Speed Force!"
Suddenly, following Reed's command, a streak of swiftly moving light burst from a large circular pipeline surrounding the energy apparatus.
As the superluminal particle accelerator kept accelerating, the light became increasingly dazzling until it surpassed the speed of light.
Then it was directed towards the Speed Force that was being guided by the traction field.
Boom!
It was like two shining stars colliding.
Two radiant beams instantly burst into even more brilliant light.
The intense light made the entire conference room extremely bright, filled with such brilliance that it was hard to see anything with the naked eye.
But they had prepared for this, wearing special goggles to observe the changes in the Speed Force within the energy apparatus.
As the Speed Force was suddenly shattered,
it split into countless particles almost invisible to the naked eye.
These particles began to flow slowly with the energy in the device.
Gradually, the energy within the device began to transform into a dazzling lightning bolt.
With the complete integration of the Speed Force, the energy apparatus seemed to undergo a fundamental transformation.
"Fantastic, we actually succeeded!"
At this moment, everyone was filled with excitement.
They had witnessed history, the advancement of cosmic civilization!
And they were about to witness the infinite unknown universes!
