[Superman] Chapter 168: Preparation Complete, A New World Awaits!
🕑 Added 2024-07-21 16:13:38 +0000 UTCWithout the slightest hesitation, Dr. Connors thought of the large being currently sealed in this secret laboratory.
"You guessed correctly..."
"Now, let’s go meet him," Peter said calmly, nodding slowly, and addressed Professor Connors.
"Great, sir! You’re finally ready to start that plan!"
At this moment, Professor Connors's earlier disappointment over Peter's decision to halt the study of the unknown virus vanished. His eyes now betrayed a glimmer of excitement.
Without further delay, he led Peter towards the special warehouse where the giant was sealed.
After a while, they arrived at a massive warehouse.
The silver vibranium door was tightly shut, seemingly untouched for a long time.
It is worth noting that due to the warehouse's uniqueness, Connors had already donned a nano space suit, fully encasing himself.
"Sir, please use your authority to open the door..."
Every space laboratory has some secret areas that ordinary people cannot access.
This warehouse was the most hidden area in this space laboratory.
The door of this warehouse couldn’t even be opened by Professor Connors alone.
Only Peter had the highest authority to open this door.
Peter did not hesitate and walked up to the door.
The next moment, a red laser filled with technological elements scanned Peter's body.
"Authorization confirmed as highest level, opening..."
Almost instantly, the authorization was granted.
*Rumble!*
Accompanied by a mechanical sound, the heavy metal door began to slowly open.
*Whoosh!*
As the door opened, a white mist surged out through the gap, and a cold sensation greeted them.
Seconds later, the metal door was fully open.
Without hesitation, the two entered the secret warehouse, moving quickly through the escaping icy breath.
Inside the warehouse, which spanned over a hundred square meters, there was initially some empty space.
The walls of the warehouse were covered with frost due to the extremely low temperature.
At the very center of the warehouse stood a block of transparent ice, several meters tall, resembling a giant boulder.
Through the transparent ice, one could see a massive figure with green skin, firmly encased within the ice.
Even from a distance, one could feel the immense anger emanating from the frozen green giant.
It seemed as if it would tear apart everything it saw.
This green figure was none other than the Hulk, who had been defeated by Peter nearly a year ago and subsequently encased in ice.
...
“Has there been any issue during its storage period?”
Peter’s gaze was fixed on the giant figure encased in ice before him as he asked Professor Connors.
“There haven’t been any issues. We strictly followed the protocol, checking every week to ensure the ice wasn’t cracking, and reapplying near absolute zero temperatures to ensure it remained fully unconscious,” Professor Connors replied, his eyes still locked on the massive green creature.
There was no trace of fear in Connors’s eyes, only a look of intense curiosity, as if he was eager to explore all the secrets contained within the creature’s body.
“That’s good to hear…”
Peter’s gaze remained calm as he nodded slowly.
“But, Professor, are you truly ready to begin this experiment? As the ice slowly melts, it might regain consciousness at any moment…”
Although Connors was eager, he knew that all experiments must be conducted under absolute safety conditions. The upcoming experiment could unleash unimaginable dangers.
Even setting aside other potential unknown consequences, if the frozen giant were to awaken, it could easily dismantle the entire space laboratory within minutes.
Despite the advanced technology and vibranium construction of this warehouse and the entire space laboratory, they would likely be unable to withstand the creature’s furious rampage.
Connors had experienced the creature’s terror during previous experiments. He still vividly remembered the rage that seemed ready to tear him apart.
This memory was from when they had just acquired the creature’s body and Peter had instructed Connors to start experiments on it. When Connors began to thaw part of the ice to conduct further tests, even the slight stimulus caused the creature’s consciousness to fully awaken.
Upon realizing its predicament, the creature erupted in furious rage, and with its terrifying strength, it quickly shattered the ice Peter had created.
After breaking free, the enraged monster fixed its angry gaze on Connors, who was helplessly caught off guard, and charged at him with a roar as if to tear him apart.
Fortunately, Connors had already notified Peter as soon as he sensed danger. Just as the creature was about to tear him apart, Peter arrived swiftly and used his freezing breath to re-encase the monster in ice.
The harrowing experience from that experiment led Peter to decide to completely seal the creature and postpone any further experimentation.
Even though the experiment had ended abruptly, Connors had managed to create the regenerative serum he had longed for through detailed analysis and exploration of the creature’s genes.
Thus, Connors was well aware that the giant creature not only contained immense dangers but also invaluable resources.
“If we can fully decode its genetic sequence, achieving human immortality could become a reality…”
As Connors reminisced about the lingering fear, he gazed at the massive figure before him with a look of deep fascination.
...
“Rest assured, I’ll handle it before it fully recovers.”
Even the Hulk in his most enraged state could tear apart the Earth. But for Peter, it was just another challenge. Even if the Hulk’s strongest form from the comics appeared before him, he wouldn’t feel any fear.
“Alright, Professor Connors, please make sure everything is prepared for the experiment and wait for my latest instructions. Any questions?”
Seeing that the frozen Hulk had shown no problems, Peter was ready to leave. While he had plans for the special experiment, the precondition was that Reed’s council needed to quickly complete the integration of the Speed Force and the Multiverse Transponder to open the gateway to the DC Universe. Once that was done, he would personally explore the true reasons behind it.
“Not an issue at all, sir…”
As Peter planned his upcoming trip to the DC Universe, Professor Connors expressed his excitement about the preparations.
However, Connors seemed hesitant, as if he had something more to say.
“Is there something on your mind?”
Peter noticed Connors’s hesitation and asked directly.
“Sir, are you really going to proceed with this special experiment?”
Professor Connors spoke slowly, but soon realized his words might lack specificity. He added, “I’m not questioning your decision. It’s just that, while I’m sure this monster poses no threat to you, even if our experiment succeeds perfectly and transforms it into one of the powerful biological weapons described in your technological data, it might not serve much purpose.”
“There’s also the risk of dealing with potential failure…”
Professor Connors was eager to conduct the special experiment because it represented the creation of a new biological species. Mastering such technology could even earn him the title of a creator. However, for current Earth technology, this experiment was still too advanced.
Moreover, with someone as powerful as Superman, creating a powerful biological weapon might not have much benefit. Especially since the experiment had a high probability of failure, potentially resulting in an uncontrollable, destructive creature that could evolve endlessly and might never be destroyed.
“Don’t worry. If I create it, it will have its use!”
“Even if the experiment fails, I won’t let it disrupt the harmony of our universe…”
Peter’s face showed an expression of complete control. He gave Connors a reassuring pat on the shoulder and turned to leave the special warehouse.
“Follow my instructions and prepare as soon as possible!”
As Peter’s figure disappeared from the warehouse, Connors took one last look at the frozen Hulk before following Peter.
Rumble!
The heavy door slowly closed.
The entire warehouse fell into a deathly silence once more. The icy air continued to seep from the special device, maintaining an extreme cold within the warehouse.
Yet, in this environment where even molecular movement seemed frozen, the enormous figure encased in ice had a heart slowly beating within its chest. It was as if, despite being frozen, its life force could not be stopped.
...
After finalizing everything, Peter left the mysterious space base.
With Peter’s authorization and notification, Professor Connors immediately began preparing for the special experiment. This, however, was still a very tedious and complex process.
Unlike previous experiments where they could rely on multiple trials to gather data and explore a path to success through countless failures, this time they only had theoretical data and directions. The real experimental conditions were completely unknown, and even the results were almost uncertain.
Thus, they could only ensure that all preparatory work before starting the experiment was perfect to avoid deviations caused by minor errors.
After some time, Professor Connors completed all the preparations for the experiment. The entire mysterious space base was cleared out, leaving only Connors, waiting for Peter’s notification and the moment the experiment would begin.
However, the long wait exceeded his expectations. It wasn’t until over a month later that he finally received Peter’s notification.
“It’s finally going to begin…”
At the moment of receiving the notification, Professor Connors couldn’t help but breathe a sigh of relief. The lengthy wait had made him wonder if Peter had forgotten about it.
Fortunately, the result was acceptable. But the next moment, thinking about the upcoming experiment filled with unknowns, Connors couldn’t help but display a mixture of anticipation and concern on his face.
As a technology explorer, the unknowns hidden within biological genes or the creation of new species were significant enough to dedicate his life to.
As the saying goes, “One can die contently after having learned the way in the morning!”
Yet, now, he couldn’t shake off the worry about the unknown outcomes of the upcoming experiment.
...
Meanwhile, as Professor Connors was feeling both anticipation and concern for the upcoming special experiment, Peter had also just received a notification from Reed.
Under the nearly frenzied exploration and research conducted by the Multiverse Scientific Council they had established, they had finally mastered the various characteristics and information about the Speed Force.
This meant they could now begin applying this incredibly unique energy in conjunction with the Multiverse Translocator to open a gateway to the DC Universe.
Upon receiving the news, Peter quickly arrived at the space station where Reed was located. After notifying Professor Connors, who was also waiting for his instructions to begin the experiment, Peter then made his way to the special meeting room.
The door representing the Multiverse Council slowly opened, and after Peter entered, it quickly closed, as if sealing him off from the rest of the universe.
Soon, Peter found himself amidst a group of people who were excitedly discussing something within the council chamber.
“Thank you for all your hard work!”
What was once a meeting room had now been transformed into a special laboratory. Countless previously unseen devices had appeared, some of which Peter recognized from before, while many others seemed newly created.
The room looked quite chaotic, but for technology enthusiasts like Reed from different universes, the disorder didn’t matter much.
“Great to see you, Mr. Superman! You’ve finally arrived!”
Reed quickly noticed Peter’s arrival and greeted him with excitement.
“Mr. Superman, we’ve successfully combined the Speed Force with the Multiverse Translocator and opened a gateway to an unknown universe…”
“It’s incredible! The infinite multiverse isn’t the end; beyond the endless universe are countless unique universes just like ours!”
“There’s so much mystery and unknown—different cosmic rules and cosmic evolution methods…”
Each of the Reeds, filled with excitement, spoke a line in turn.
Under the guidance of the Speed Force, it felt as if they had opened a door to a new world.
“It’s just a pity that the Speed Force is still too scarce. It’s only enough to open the gateway to one universe in the unknown realm!”
…
