[Superman] Chapter 167: The Reboot of the Sealed Experiment
🕑 Added 2024-07-21 16:12:46 +0000 UTCDuring the years of battling endless zombies, Reed had tried countless methods to defeat them.
However, the zombie virus was far too mysterious and powerful.
Its infection rate and efficiency far exceeded any virus known to humanity.
Even superheroes with special abilities could not resist it; they were instantly infected, turning into zombies who retained their powers but lost all familial recognition, only knowing to consume.
Within just a few months, the zombie infection, with many retaining superpowers, had spread across the entire Earth, infecting nearly all of humanity.
Only a few heroes with special abilities remained, fighting tenaciously against the onslaught.
Reed had also tried to fight the zombies alongside other heroes.
Yet, their powers were ultimately too insignificant to withstand the thousands of zombies constantly attacking them.
In the end, Reed's companions were either consumed or infected in the battle against the zombies.
Reed had no choice but to confine himself in a special underground base, studying tirelessly day after day for a cure to the zombie virus.
Until today, he was selected by the special multiverse council, realizing the mystery and vastness of the universe.
He had also witnessed a special energy that felt like it could completely address the zombie crisis in his universe.
"Can this Speed Force really travel through time and alter the past and future?"
At this moment, Reed from the zombie universe was silent, his gaze fixed intently on the mysterious, lightning-like energy at the center of the conference table.
His eyes held both intense excitement and a hint of skepticism.
"So now, what do we need to do?"
Without a doubt, nearly everyone was captivated by the small streak of Speed Force before them, struggling to believe it contained such astonishing power.
At the same time, they understood that even if it wasn’t to resolve the crisis engulfing the multiverse, they would never miss the precious opportunity to study such a unique energy.
"Since there are no objections to the establishment of the council..."
"Then I hereby announce that the inaugural Multiverse Technology Council is officially established!"
"As for the rules that members must follow upon joining the council, I have presented them before you. Please remember and adhere to these rules..."
"If there are any disagreements with the rules, they can be raised. New rules will be established after unanimous discussion and approval by all members."
As Reed excitedly declared the immediate establishment of the council, a long list of rules to be followed for joining the council appeared on the virtual projection before them.
The first rule was not to disclose any information about the council to others.
The second rule was not to use the council’s advanced technology to alter the technological development rate of one’s own universe without permission.
No actions were allowed that would endanger the safety of various universes.
No unauthorized entry into other universes, and so on...
There were dozens of rules governing inter-universal conduct.
Any violation of these rules would result in the individual's memories of the council being erased in front of all members, followed by exile back to their original universe.
Severe consequences that led to the collapse and extinction of a universe would result in exile to endless void, enduring eternal loneliness.
"Everyone, I believe you now understand the rules you need to follow after joining the council."
After waiting for a while, seeing no objections from the others, Reed smiled slightly and continued.
"If you can accept everything so far, please place your hand on the conference table before you..."
Upon hearing Reed’s words, the others slowly looked down at the silver conference table.
They saw that, at some unknown time, a glowing hand-shaped pattern had appeared on the table, awaiting their final confirmation.
...
Buzz!
Reed from the zombie universe almost immediately placed his right hand on the table without any hesitation.
In the next moment, all his identity information, including his universe number, was uploaded to the Multiverse Council's system terminal.
Click!
Suddenly, a cluster of special nano-metal particles appeared on the previously empty table, swiftly converging into a silver device on Reed's wrist.
"What is this? A watch?"
The sudden occurrence made him pause in surprise. Looking at the device that appeared on his wrist like a watch, his eyes reflected a hint of confusion.
"This is the proof of being a council member. It has many powerful special functions, such as creating an energy shield that can withstand the impact of a small nuclear explosion for a short time, opening a portal to the council, uploading and downloading information from the council system, and more," Reed explained, giving a brief overview of the special device.
"Oh, and it doesn’t require verbal communication. It can read your thoughts and be controlled by your mind..."
Though small, it was incredibly powerful.
"Display my information..."
With a thought, Reed from the zombie universe decided to try out the special device.
Almost instantly, a virtual screen appeared above the watch.
**Name: Reed Richards
From: Zombie Universe No. 1...**
It included all his information, including basic details about his universe.
"Access council technology data..."
Next, Reed closed his profile and eagerly began to look up the council's technological data.
Almost instantly, the virtual projection in front of him changed accordingly.
Countless technological documents appeared, categorized into fields like energy science, material science, biology, and more.
Within these major categories were numerous subcategories.
All the technological information interlinked like a tech tree, forming various specialized achievements such as spacecraft, energy shields, energy cannons, and iron armor.
As a council member, Reed had sufficient clearance to access the included technologies.
Without hesitation, he bypassed other categories like spacecraft, energy, and materials, heading straight to the biology section to meticulously read up on virology.
"This..."
Seeing Reed's actions from the zombie universe, the others exchanged glances, seeming a bit hesitant.
"There's nothing to hesitate about. I'm already impatient to learn more advanced technological knowledge!"
Soon, someone, unable to contain their curiosity, pressed their hand on the glowing handprint that indicated agreement.
Although the inviting Reed had humbly stated that all council members must share their technological information and knowledge, it seemed more like an effort to gather advanced technology from their universes to enrich the council's repository.
But they understood well enough—if the inviter could cross endless universes to bring them here, it meant that this universe’s technology had reached an unimaginable level.
Compared to such advanced civilization, their technological achievements were almost insignificant.
Having gained such a huge advantage, they naturally had no reason to hesitate.
"That's right, we really have nothing to hesitate about!"
Even though the council still felt very mysterious to them, and they hadn’t left this incredibly secure meeting room to see what the inviting universe looked like or how prosperous it was, there seemed to be no reason to hesitate.
In the next moment, everyone agreed to join the council, becoming its first members.
Then, with the help of the nano-particle-formed watches, they began to read and upload technological achievements and information.
...
Several days later.
A period had passed since the first session of the Multiverse Council began.
During this time, the other council members had uploaded significant scientific achievements from their respective universes.
Of course, the technological advancements they possessed, while advanced, could not compare to the civilization that had experienced technological leaps and could even open portals between universes.
However, science is about exploring the infinite mysteries of the future universe.
Some advanced civilizations might have highly developed achievements in certain technologies.
But this does not mean that the technological advancements of less advanced civilizations are entirely devoid of value for these advanced civilizations.
In short, the complementary technologies from multiple universes showcased the true function of the Multiverse Council.
The collision of numerous different technologies sparked even more brilliant innovations.
Especially since each council member was among the smartest humans in their universe.
When they encountered difficult scientific barriers, they convened meetings to discuss new research directions and solutions together.
Currently, they had all focused their efforts on creating more Speed Force and combining it with the Multiverse Transporter.
The research efficiency now far surpassed what Reed could have achieved alone.
Originally, it might have taken Reed years to perfectly integrate the Speed Force with the Multiverse Transporter.
However, with the collective research of many members, it had only taken a little over half a month to make significant progress.
They were even conducting relevant experiments already.
Perhaps, in the near future, they would achieve delightful results.
"It seems agreeing to Reed's proposal to establish the council was indeed the right decision."
Upon receiving Reed's progress report, Peter couldn’t help but feel a bit surprised.
"However, it looks like I might soon be able to visit the DC Universe and explore the situation of that universe crossing the omniversal barrier and appearing in the Marvel Universe."
After the initial surprise, Peter realized that he might soon travel to the DC Universe.
"But before going to the DC Universe, I should make some preparations!"
Although the prospect of visiting the DC Universe excited Peter, he knew this wasn't a leisure trip.
The DC Universe, like the Marvel Universe, could suddenly face crises at any moment.
Moreover, the DC Universe had more supreme beings than the Marvel Universe.
There were countless powerful entities lurking, eyeing the destruction of the entire DC Multiverse.
The source of the crisis Peter was to investigate might be one of these entities plotting the universe’s destruction.
This meant his journey to the DC Universe would be anything but peaceful.
"Hmm... It seems it’s time to initiate that plan!"
Peter suddenly recalled a special being he encountered shortly after arriving in the Marvel Universe and awakening his superhuman abilities.
That special and crazy plan had yet to be truly set in motion.
Thinking of this, Peter did not hesitate and instantly disappeared.
...
In the blink of an eye.
Peter's figure appeared on a secret space station far out in space.
During this time, not only had they helped establish a space fortress base for the Sword of Heaven Bureau, but they had also secretly built several space stations.
Thanks to the development of optical cloaking materials, some of these space stations hidden in space were undetectable by virtually all human nations.
In fact, apart from Peter himself, no one else knew exactly how many secret space stations belonging to their company existed in space.
At this moment, Peter had arrived at a special space station that was known to very few people other than himself.
This space station had not been involved in much scientific research.
It focused solely on the continuous exploration of biology and genetic science.
The scientist in charge of this mysterious space station was Professor Connors, who had not been seen by humanity for quite some time!
With Peter's sudden appearance on the space station.
Professor Connors, who was deeply engaged in scientific experiments, received the news and hurriedly finished his experiments and recorded all the information.
Within a few minutes, he arrived to meet Peter in a rush.
"Mr. Superman, long time no see. Why have you suddenly come here today?"
Dressed in a special protective suit, Connors quickly walked towards Peter, extending his right hand to greet him.
It’s worth noting that Connors's previously lost arm had long since regenerated, and he now looked no different from a normal person.
"Long time no see, Professor Connors. How's the progress on the previous experiment?"
Peter asked slowly. Although he hadn't personally visited this mysterious laboratory for a long time.
The station was not completely out of touch with the outside world.
With the establishment of the Multiverse Council, various biological technologies from other members had been shared here as well.
Especially the zombie virus that could infect entire universes, which Connors was currently working hard to crack.
"Sorry, Mr. Superman, the progress of the experiment has not been very promising."
"Without the pathogen of that virus, it is very difficult for us to understand the details of that mysterious virus and produce the corresponding antidote."
When talking about the experiment, Professor Connors's face showed a hint of disappointment.
Peter was cautious enough; even while researching the antidote for the zombie virus, he had not actually brought the pathogen of the zombie virus into their universe.
"In that case, let’s temporarily abandon that experiment..."
Peter said without hesitation. He could not endanger his own universe for the sake of another.
"Well... Mr. Superman, perhaps we should reconsider..."
Connors hesitated. As a scientist, his greatest excitement came from exploring the unknown.
"No need to reconsider. Moreover, you will soon begin more important experiments!"
Peter spoke with an undeniable expression, which instantly brought a look of anticipation and excitement to the previously disappointed face of Professor Connors.
"Mr. Superman, are you referring to... that big guy?"
